My family returned in January 2026 to enjoy a delicious lunch as a pit stop on our drive to Blacksburg, VA from northern VA. My two sons one again devoured their chicken / lamb kabob platters. This time, we tried the appetizer hummus plate (which is highly recommended). On Saturday afternoon around 1pm, the lunch service was excellent. The restaurant has a warm and cozy vibe. Pretty good place actually. It appears to be a small cafe and very basic, so my expectations were pretty low. The food on the other hand was quite fresh, clean and decent quality. I had the chickpea soup with rice and liked it. The humus was also well made and so was the falafel (I wasn't expecting that since it isn't an Arabic restaurant but a Persian one). The service was also decent. We stopped by on the way back from Virginia Tech and liked this as an alternative to the typical highway fast food chains. read more

We wanted something different and read the yelp reviews hoping they were as good as the reviews said. AND it was good! We had it delivered and it was here quickly and still very warm. We had the chicken & koobideh and the lamb & koobideh. The bread was great too. Great price for the food. Would order it again. Update. Today I went to the other middle eastern restaurant in the shopping center by JMU. Not as good as this place. A &A is definitely tastier, and much better for the value. We discovered A&A after a couple of not-so-great meals at our previous go-to for Middle Eastern food. Thank goodness! we first tried it in December and found it much more enjoyable than our previous fav, and the owners are warm and friendly. Remembering our most enjoyable first visit to A&A Kebab Grill, we recently returned for lunch. As much as we had enjoyed our first visit, this one surpassed it, as the proprietor remembered us and treated us as long-lost family, providing a pot of Earl Grey Tea while we waited and a bowl of gently flavored lentil soup. The last time I had lentil soup was at a friend's house on the French Riviera. It surprised me because I so enjoyed it. This version was different, lighter, but equally comforting. This visit was also more enjoyable because there were more diners, quietly talking and laughing. Most appeared to be from the Middle East, suggesting that the food appealed to native taste as much as to those of us who came to it later in life. I have had the pleasure of dining out in many restaurants from North Africa to South Asia and points between. I don't recall enjoying meals as much as I have done here. We started with hummus, topped with olive oil and fresh, warm Kurdish flatbread. Both my companion and I make hummus at home. We looked at each other and shook our heads. Neither of us puts together hummus as light and flavorful as this. It was the first time, after innumerable meals together over the past 30 years that we had to bargain about who would take home the leftovers, and leftovers there were because... no matter how delicious, the servings here are generous enough that we both usually make another meal of leftovers. We both had enjoyed our meals the previous time, but we like to experiment. This time we both decided on the gyro platter. We both love gyros and my companion raved about the rice on our first visit, and this one comes with rice and a side salad. We were surprised that the gyro meat came on a bed of rice instead of on naan, but when the proprietor asked whether we wanted bread, we both said no. We didn't need it after the bread with hummus, though, so it was fine. The gyro meat was not the typical shawarma style small strips, but smaller pieces of meat that allowed them to be browned all over while remaining succulent. As with everything we have tried, here, seasoning is light and draws more attention to the food than to the spice. The rice was possibly the best I have had. It was light and flavorful and I found myself shoveling in a most ungentlemanly manner. We wrapped up our leftovers and I won the hummus. The greatest surprise was that when I warmed my gyro meat and rice, the flavor in the meat seemed to intensify and I briefly considered going back for more, but the A&A Kebab Grill is more than 20 miles from home, and I don't like to drive. That means that I will have to wait until the next time I am in Harrisonburg before I can satisfy my new craving for A&A fare.... And see my new old friends. Alas! read more

THE FOOD HERE IS AS DETECTIBLE AS IT IS AUTHENTIC! There. I've said it. Pulling into this place, we almost missed it, as the sign is humble in comparison to the restaurant adjacent. As we walked in, we were welcomed by ... another patron. He told us that he eats lunch here every single day. Already a promising sign. The decor is simple. If you're an interior design snob, please hold your tongue and just wait for the food - soon you'll be licking your lips. The menu is simple, which told me that they make a few things VERY well. My dad has never had this type of cuisine and, honestly, is not an incredibly adventurous man. The waitress suggested the gyro (smart move) and the patron who welcomed us suggested I order #16, the chicken kebab platter - we were both SO pleased with the timeliness, flavors, and freshness. The prices are quite fair, as well. Upon exiting, my dad said "I'd go back there." A HUGE WIN! If any suggestions were to be made it would be to "up" the decor, tidy the bathroom a smidge, and have a sign that stands out from the rest. read more

We had the steak platter with rice cooked just right and the lamb kebab was tender and tasty and Kurdish Kuba with a nice crisp crunch. The lentil soup was outstanding!!! Ordered food from A&A Kabob Grill through DoorDash! I ordered the Chicken Kebob Wrap, Lentil Soup, Fries, and a Kurdish Flatbread. The food is amazing. Came quickly after ordering and was still hot when it got here. Tasted fresh! The soup is so delicious and perfect for the cool rainy day. The piece of flatbread is huge (like double the size of my hand) and only 99¢ for one! The chicken is seasoned well and the wrap/fries were perfect for lunch. Really disappointing that I have to write this review but I am NOT coming to A&A Kabob ever again. Last time I went I had amazing service via curbside pickup. This time the person on the phone told me I couldn't pay for my meal over the phone which was strange since I did it last time. Then when I was waiting at curbside pickup he came to my car WITHOUT A MASK. As I arrived, they greeted me first. Not acknowledging my significant other. At first it was okay. Gave them the benefit of the doubt but then they made it more obviously as to not even acknowledge her presence. Skipping over her when they were specially asking for my name. Not giving her the slightest of attention. As if she wasn't even a person. There was no respect shown besides towards me which is unfair and disrespectful. We drove 30 minutes because of the great reviews. I really don't understand what the hype is about. The naan was not good. I had a platter..the rice was absolutely flavorless, the salad did not have any dressing. It was simply washed and was still a little wet. We also had a classic gyro..the meat was not seasoned the way it's supposed to be seasoned. I absolutely love middle eastern food. I was raised eating gyros and kebabs..but this was so bland!!!! read more

What a great little local business! I drive by this place every day on my way to work and have noticed their hand-painted sign for A&A Kabob that drew my attention. After looking into their Facebook account to check their menu and reviews, we ended up trying this restaurant this past weekend with my family and it was very good! We (4 adults, 2 young kids) ordered the Family Pack meal to go, which included 2 of each of the 3 kinds of kebabs, falafel, hummus, 3 giant naan breads, a side salad, and a very generous portion of rice. The gentleman helping us said it should serve about 6-7 people, but I think that all depends on how much you eat. I would say it's more closely suitable to 4-5 people, with some leftovers of side items. (Either way at $39.99 for all this food - it was very reasonable.) As others had mentioned in the restaurant's Facebook reviews, from the moment we walked in the restaurant we weren't treated as just a customer, but more like a family friend. The gentleman behind the counter helped us walk through the menu and talk out our options. The larger menu that was over the counter also showed pictures of the kebabs and other options, which helped. Once we decided to order, the gentleman insisted we sit down in the restaurant and wait, and he brought us out 2 bowls of their lentil soup and a giant piece of fresh naan to enjoy while we waited about 15 mins for our food to be ready. (Note: Only 2 of us adults went in to the restaurant to order since we were doing carry-out.) There is no other hospitality like this than at a local restaurant! The soup ended up being one of my favorite parts of the meal! My other favorites from our food tastings that day included the hummus (it had a bunch of herbs on it and was very tasty!) and the falafel. The kebabs were good - chicken one was my favorite out of them, but I have to say I'd definitely go back for the service and the falafel, hummus and soup! :-) I hope this place sticks around for a while because there's nothing like it in the area. Loved it. We were in town for some school stuff and were looking for something that wasn't just burgers and pizza. We looked up what was around and found this great place. The decor isn't all that nice but what really mattered, the food and staff, were great. We tried both the chicken and steak kabobs which were cooked to perfection and tasted amazing. Had some great hummas and naan as well. All that plus I found the portions and price on point! Very satisfied and if we're in the neck of the woods we'll definitely stop by again. read more

Literally the best prepared lamb in town. This little muddle Eastern gem also prepares their own bread served warm and delicious. My favorite is the lamb kabob pñatter served with pilaf and salad. They also will prepare the meat to your preference. read more
