This is a very unassuming place in a strip mall. I had the hardest time understanding the menu and what I ended up getting still wasn't what I thought I was ordering. I'm going to say that the problem was probably just me because the server tried to explain (twice) what the options were. I ended up with a lamb kebab with pita bread as my entree. I also got the falafels as an appetizer. The dining mate got the double portion of lamb kebabs on rice. We both thought the lamb was fabulous! The garlic flavor was prominent but not overpowering and the pita itself was very light and doughy: delicious! I ordered the chicken shish kabob platter while my girlfriend ordered the lamb shish kebab. The chicken was very flavorful and juicy! We used Yelp to find lunch during our drive to DC. I love that Yelp helps us locate locally owned gems off the freeway, so we aren't stuck using fast food or fast casual chains. Xenia hit the spot! I got the falafel appetizer and a basket of garlic pita and hummus for the table. The Colonel got the steak and lamb kebab platter, and der Sprosling got the chicken kebab platter (they were out of ground beef, so no koobideh for YOU). Every place/culture in the Levant does falafel (and other staples of the cuisine) a little differently. The falafel were small, firm, fried dark brown and crunchy on the outside and were more creamy and saffron colored on the inside, delicious! They came with a hummus that was mild and slightly which also went well with the garlic pita. The pita said two pieces but they mean two GIANT pieces ripped into about 16 smaller pieces. It's a lot of bread, don't be fooled! The kebabs were very good, I got full quickly so I only had chicken and lamb, but the steak LOOKED amazing. The Colonel made little happy noises to himself as he ate. The place is nicely decorated, the server was pleasant, and the bathroom was clean and pretty. We drove 2.5 hours north, my daughter drove 2.5 hours south to swap a visiting child. We needed a restaurant in Harrisonburg and based on reviews decided to eat at Xenia Kebab Grille. We ordered hummus and baba ghanoush for starters and chicken gyro, chicken souvlaki, lamb shish kebab and biryani for meals. The food was absolutely amazing. The hummus smooth and flavorful, the baba ghanoush the best I've ever eaten, the pita soft, warm and ample to capture every bite. Everyone was very happy with all delicious meals, the only disappointment was being too full to order dessert! Prices are a bargain in this economy and we dream about eating here again. Oh wait; I didn't mention how Daro and Gona, two of the owner/chef/family came out to chat and ask how we enjoyed the meal! I got the Chicken Shish Kabob which comes with 2 chicken kabobs, rice and a bit of salad. The sheer amount of rice this dish comes with one might consider excessive. I consider it leftovers. I also got the tabbouleh ( best choice of my life) and a couple of dolmades. The tabbouleh was unlike any tabbouleh I've had in my life. Where as most tabboulehs are primarily chopped parsley, this tabbouleh almost had an even amount of parsley, tomato, red onion, and bulgar. The flavor of it was so acidic and bold that... well... I want this recipe too. The chicken was so tender and well done. Man. The only thing I felt that didn't really measure up to the other two things was the dolmades. They were good, they just didn't wow me like the two other dishes. They also came with a ramekin of what was primarily lemon juice, if not all lemon juice. Which I found just a tad bit odd. I would have just thrown in a little lemon wedge. But ya know what. I don't own a highly successful Middle Eastern restaurant... and they seem to be doing things quite right. So I'll leave that one up to the experts hahaha. Can't wait to make it back here. The interior is definitely a bit older, and hole-in-the-wall-y. Came in with a big group on a Friday night for a later dinner. The place was pretty quiet maybe just one or two other tables with smaller parties. They were very accommodating to our large group of 8 to 9 people, and we're willing to let us put tables and chairs together. Our food came pretty fast and was fresh, tasty and with good portions. You were sad that they were out of dolmas so we shared fries instead, they were so good! Battered fries are the best. I tried dipping the fries in the Baba ganoush which was nice and creamy. I got the lamb shish kabob with a side of green beans and cheese sauces - cilantro sauce and horseradish sauce. The horseradish sauce wasn't very spicy at all which was a little bit of a disappointment. The seasoned rice had some sort of yellowish oil on it but I couldn't detect a flavor to it. However it was a lot of rice! The green beans were definitely canned or frozen. Tasted great but the texture was a little blah. The lamb itself was super duper seasoned but I would have appreciated more veggies with my shish kabob. One of my fellow diners got a side salad which looked very good! Near the end of our meal, our server and another person brought out pieces of baklava and candles for us to sing Happy Birthday to our friend. My family and I are staying at the Massanutten Resort, as we were out and exploring the area, we came across Xenia Kebab Grille. We love Mediterranean food, so to us this was an easy pick. As we entered, the server did their best to accommodate us while encouraging social distancing regulations. They are only required to set up a few tables. So be mindful of that. Xenia Kebab Grille has excellent, eclectic Middle Eastern menu AND this restaurant is run by a family. I found out that they are Kurdistan, whish is awesome. The set up is, there's a man out front that takes the orders, and two or three women and a man working the kitchen. It was amazing seeing one of them stretching dough for pita. They have several soup options, including thick Kurdish lentil soup, the soup of the day we were there was lentil soup. That was delicious! The gyros are homemade and hand-sliced. For appetizer, we had Hummus with Pita. I have learned that their hummus & pita are homemade. So when it's served, it served with fresh. For my main meal, I had the Chicken Shish Kebab off the Special Kebad menu section. Kebab style chicken breast is marinated in a Mediterranean blend. Their tender and juicy marinated chicken kebab is grilled on skewers over an open fire and served with fresh baked pita, topped with fresh lettuce, onion, tomatoes, cucumbers, and sauce of choice. I had the Mediterranean sauce. It is also served with basmati rice which is fluffy and flavoured with a touch of saffron. Overall, we were all pleased with our orders. The atmosphere was great.
