My husband and I planned a Saturday night (late August, 2023) visit to the White Oak Lavender Farm and Winery. We saw on their website that there would be a live band, and both wines/beers and food would be available. White Oak offers charcuterie meats and cheeses and, on this particular night, a food truck from Yolki Palki Russian Kitchen would be on-site. We decided that our dinner would be from the food truck, reviewed the menu on White Oak's website, and looked forward to trying their "manti", described as steamed dumplings with chicken and ground beef, as well as chicken dumplings. Service (1/5). When we started to get hungry, my husband joined the relatively short line at the food truck -- and waited and waited and waited. From the time that he joined the line to actually having food, he had STOOD in line for 45 minutes. And, the woman in front of him had taken the last order of manti! It seems that the food truck was under-staffed, and had under-estimated the demand for their food over the full special event day ("Pirate Palooza"). On the positive side, the workers appeared hard-working and were friendly. Food. (4/5). We ultimately got three items. (1) grilled chicken kebab skewers (5/5), which were marinated and spiced with salted butter, paprika, garlic, and salt. These were amazing. Grilled perfectly, hot, and very tasty. (2) a plot platter (3/5), which is described on their website as "Uzbekistan fried rice with beef meat, carrots, onions, garlic, spices, and jalapenos". This was okay, but we found it to be rice-heavy, with too little meat and vegetable pieces and too little spice. (3) Spicy carrot salad (4/5). Shredded carrots were dressed with vinegar, sugar, salt, peppers, and soy sauce. This was good, but we wouldn't characterize them as "spicy." Very friendly and good variety. Authentic as my moms cooking. First Russian place I can grab food from that is ready and fresh.

Just discovered this place. And, they just cut back their hours for the summer while JMU is out of session. Ordered a good part of the menu, and we found it all excellent. If you're at all familiar with this type of food, as Russia goes their offerings are more Central Asia than Moscow. So, turnovers, dumplings, salads, and, on weekends, kebabs. It's a food truck with no seating area, so everything is to go. Did I say everything we had was excellent? :-) A very welcome addition to the diverse Harrisonburg food scene. Left Planet Fitness and they were in the parking lot so thought I would give it a try.Ordered the Manti (steamed dumplings) suggested by the very friendly server. They threw in some of the spicy carrot salad to try.Brought it home and my wife and I split it. The meat filled dumplings and spicy carrot salad were awesome !
