Whatever you do, do NOT give your money to A and A stepping stone in Newcastle. We just paid for 100 ft.² of stone veneer and they only gave us 90 ft.² It turned out to be a very stressful and embarrassing situation. Why would they only give someone 90 ft.² when they paid for 100 ft.²? That is not how you do business. I thought I was more than 90 ft.² short and could not get a hold of the manager. She answered the phone one time and after that no one was available to help me. I had to drive almost an hour to pick up the rest of the veneer because my workers had to finish that day. To top it off they blamed my workers for not counting the stone. Why do I need to count the stone when they should be giving me the right amount? They didn't lay out the stone, they just threw it all in a box. My workers had to be at my house for almost 2 extra hours because they didn't give me the right amount. My worker also mentioned that they're usually short when he gets product from there. How does that make any sense? Cheats, that's what they are. I went and got samples and used their bathroom. Next trip I spent $1000 and they wouldn't let me use their bathroom. HORRIBLE HORRIBLE experience, please take your money elsewhere!! They did end up giving me my extra 10 ft.² but the experience the worst!:/ read more

This place is excellent all around, from the ladies in the office to the guys in the yard to the delivery drivers. I had a huge project and A&A gave me an excellent price, low shipping quote, and everything was dropped exactly how and where I wanted it. I had to go there twice to pick up some pieces I forgot and everyone was very helpful. Even though it's more than an hour away from my home, this is now my go-to rock place. I walked into this company with a text full of measurements and materials needed from my contractor and no clue what any of it was. Everyone was so kind and helpful. They walked me to each area of material I needed, gave me ideas, and pricing. Never once did I feel stupid or uncomfortable! They all have a great attitude despite working in the beating sun and inhaling dirt and dust all day. The Husband and I came to A&A Stepping Stone one Saturday to look at some flagstone for a path that we (ok that he) is doing at our home. We checked out a rock supply place on Sacramento, but this one is a lot closer and was recommended by his Dad, so we thought we would check it out. The parking lot is small, and it's a smaller rock yard, but they have everything that we would need and were looking for. They had a good selection of flagstone in all different shapes and sizes, and prices were comparable to other places we have looked at. The only thing that disappointed us was the flat $145 delivery fee. We don't need that much material, and only live about 10 miles away, so the price seemed a little steep. Service was good and we were able to get help with what we needed. There was a good selection of bulk rock and pebbles as well as flagstone, so I'm sure we will stop by again when we are ready to purchase. They also have a location in Citrus Heights which is easy to get to as well. read more

Today was my second visit, and I won't even give them a chance to quote ever again. My first visit some months ago rudely began with the sales lady arguing with a customer, yelling at him off the front deck of the office. Today's visit began with two guys asking what I needed. As soon as I told them 1.5 yards of white sand delivered they became very rude and dismissive of me as a customer, like my order wasn't worth anything to them. Even if an order isn't huge, that's no reason to act rudely. I would advise you don't give this place a try even if the odd few have had an ok experience, the ratings and stories speak for the reality of this place. read more

I visited their facility this last weekend looking for some stones for a retaining wall we are building in our backyard. I had a lot of questions regarding what kind of stone to use and what some future options could be for some adjacent patios. I worked with Josh and Ashley. It is not my job to make sure your staff puts on their mask. I should not have to ask them to follow the county protocol. I watched this gal walk from behind the counter to outside and back all without a mask. I work with people with real chronic Lund disease and they all manage to wear a mask , faithfully. Over the past five years I have purchased various block and rock products from Tony and his crew at this Rocklin location. Always good service, always excellent help loading their product into my SUV. All of the employees know their product inventory and location of the materials, so it's quick in and quick out every time. I have been adding to my Country Manor/Stonewall II block purchases each year as I install more small decorative walls in the yard, and they always have the right block in the right color when I need it. They also have a great selection of moss rock in every size which helped in creating a new image to my front landscaping. read more

My husband bought three HUGE moss rocks from A & A Stepping Stone and a nice gentleman (who knew how to operate the huge three wheel forklift like a pro) named Pat delivered them to our home. Because of his expertise and dexterity driving the forklift, he was able to move the rock onto front yard with care for our existing plants. Rude service. Unhelpful. I called towards the end seeing to see if they could pull order, so no one stayed late. When I arrived at 4:40pm the gates had been closed (she knew I was coming). The sign says they close at 5pm. Shocked at how unwilling Mandy or maybe Brandy was to make a $950 sale. Over the top rude phone service to boot. I'd go to another location. I saw that low review in Rocklin and decided I had to sign up to yelp, just to counteract it. I've shopped the place 3 times now for topsoil, dark & white clean sand, and crushed rock/aggregate and feel my experience has been the opposite as that last review. I feel I am a cheap skate comparison shopper yet I've given up on Lowes& HmDpt over off hwy 65. I love this place and feel they have been very accommodating and best of all - good prices, very nice yard, and close to home! I live just a mile south, by K-mart. I'm going there a fourth time this Monday for more concrete materials. When I do my masonry wall next month I will shop the price but will favor these guys over all others if they're with 5%. Hey here again I had another fantastic experience! Stopped in for some more moss rocks. They are still 7 cents a pound. That was a great start. Garrett has helped me a couple of times. Just outstanding customer service! He's quick to recognize and let me know he would be right with me. He jumped on the forklift and we had those chosen rocks in the back of my truck in no time! STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE!!! TERRIBLE!!! They over-estimated what we needed, they gave us 135 sq feet more than we needed of flagstone. When we contacted them to let them know of their error, they acted as if they did nothing wrong and pointed out there's no return policy. Makes me think they did this on purpose so I would end up with the short end of the stick. Nowhere in this could they take fault for their own error, they finally agreed to take the stone back. But it would cost me an additional 140.00 for them to come get the stone, this was their mistake!!!. If they cared for their customers, they could have came to pick up the stone themselves. In order to get a credit from them, I had to load up the stone myself to take it back to them and when I got there, I had to unload it myself. Extremely poor customer service, this company could care less about their costumers. I will NEVER, EVER use them again. Will deter my friends and family from going there at all. read more

The best experience is a good experience and receiving excellent customer service. My husband and I have done business with A&A and always have great customer service from employee Theron. He's GREAT as is Tony. Problem--recently found out that neither work there any longer and that, in my opinion, is a great loss! I can see why other people did reviews the way they did. I see both sides of the story: the good reviews and the bad. Tyler was a very hard worker, and I gave him credit today because he was working alone in the yard on a Saturday. He was very helpful, and gave a small free sample so I can take home a stone to show my husband. This was a good example of going above and beyond for the customer, way to go Tyler! I can see why some people did have a bad experience with the lady at the front counter. I think it's just her personality- quick, efficient, abrupt and stressed. She was nice enough to me. I could see she had a lot on her plate. They had a dog that hung out in the office and was very nice to my son! I will be back again. read more

The only reason I am giving them one star is because I first stopped by the Newcastle location and the woman who helped me there was very helpful. Newcastle didn't have my product in stock so she sent me over to the rocklin store where they did. When I got to the Rocklin location the man behind the desk was helpful too. But when the young guy came out to help me load the fireplace tiles into my car, the first thing I noticed was he kept calling me sweetie, he is in his twenties me 50's, it almost felt condescending. Then he preceded to put the tiles in the car, and I had to assume that he knew the amount he was putting in but there didn't seem to be any rhyme or reason but he said I would be getting what was left in the box and I would be getting more than the 48 feet that I bought. I took that load home and returned to pick up the next load. When I got there he was really sweetieing it up. Annoying but ok. He then started loading the tiles in my trunk and not putting that much in and not the rest of the box like he said. I told him it did not look like he had put enough in and my order really looked short. Finally he added some more but it still looked short to me. Mean while he kept saying quietly " I'll take care of you Sweetie" He must of said it 15 times, I got the feeling he was trying to act like he was doing me a favor, so I would slip him some cash. He never asked for it, it was just how it felt. The whole interaction felt creepy. I drove my load of tiles home 40 minutes away. When I got home I laid out all the tiles and there was only 36 feet. I had ordered and paid for 48. I called the store and again the man in the office was helpful and told me to come in and they would give me the rest of the tiles I had paid for. I asked that another person help load that order in my car the other guy is just to creepy and I don't have any faith in his abilities. I will be going back today. My mother went to the Auburn Blvd store but they did not have the bricks she wanted. They checked with the store on Pacific Street and said they had them. So I took my 86 year old mother to the Pacific Street store. When we arrived, the man at the counter checked and said they had them and sent us to go get them. He said they were about half way down the yard on the left. I drove my mom because I didn't think walking on the dirt surface would be a good idea. We went down one side and then back but didn't see them so I went behind the row they were supposed to be in , which was a dead end and had to get out of a very tight spot, ended up scratching my 1 year old car. The scratch is going to cost $ 1400 to repair. So we went back and insisted on help. Turns out the two employees in the yard "had to dig them out". I know we didn't make a large purchase but the service was awful. I would never go back there. read more
