I'll start with this. I don't pick my pizza based on decor. I base it on how it's prepared and the ingredients. Also note, I just came back from New York and had the absolute best pizza of my life. This place is unique in that the menu is very basic and or a whole lot of options. I didn't think I could have anything nearby (on the west coast) that I could compare to. No, this place did not change my mind. East coast is still the pizza capital of the US. However, this place is not bad. The ingredients tasted pretty fresh and the crust had a really nice flavor and crunch. I think it's worth trying if you're in the area and be the judge yourself. Don't mind the plain interior. OK, here is my review of A&B pizza: I can perfectly sympathize with a business owner that wants to keep his establishment low maintenance, and easy to care for. Saying that however, a building that is so stark, so empty, without even chairs for some of the tables, doesn't communicate a welcome atmosphere to me. I realize a number of people think that these features actually add charm to the place, but it doesn't do that to me. And don't be confused about that menu, what you're looking at there is the whole thing. No salads, no drinks. So that means when I go out to get dinner I need to stop at at least two places. Seriously, would it bust his ass to keep a couple heads of lettuce and a few cans of soda sitting around? But I know what you're all asking yourselves, what about the pizza? The truth about the pizza, at least for me - is that it was OK. The pizza was OK. That's all, just OK. He is using real ingredients, he has a pizza sauce that you can taste, and the crust is OK, even though mine was not crispy on the bottom, Which is purported by others to be the crowning Achievement of this man's pizza. So the notion presented that this is the best pizza in the area simply isn't true; That would be the Surfcrest in Cannon Beach.. I am jazzed about the whole idea of supporting a local business person, but the Pizza simply wasn't good enough to justify all of the other missing elements. I wish him well, and I intend to check back in a few months to see if he is going to stay with his minimalist business model. Totally unexpected to find a pizza place like this in seaside. Like some of the reviews have said very similar to Ken's Artisan or Apizza Scholl's in PDX. The pizza was New York style thin with a crisp and the crust was fantastic with air pockets along with perfect char. When we walked in the owner was very friendly. He told us exactly how long the pizza would take so we had time to go across the street to grab a beer and come back. When we came back because the pizzas are pretty good size he had half the pizza in a box and half on a tray. The menu is beautifully simple. It features a modest selection of classic pies as well as toppings you can choose from to customize your own creation. The crust is slow-fermented and thin. It's just thick enough to support the toppings, crispy, and chewy on the inside. The sauce is very balanced with a slight natural sweetness that compliments its tomato acidity. Wet and dry mozzarella cheeses provide a rich flavor profile without being too heavy. The house made fennel sausage is amazing. Closer in size to small meatballs than your average crumbled sausage varieties, it also has a great flavor and is surprisingly not very greasy. The prices are very reasonable and below what most pizza places you'll find in the area charge. The quality, quantity, and price are all great selling points but the owner's effort (and success) in producing a masterfully crafted pie in such a "no frills" establishment is to be commended!
