Eating vegan in the Oregon Northern coast, first food stop.... Mac'd & more in Astoria, OR. This was our first vegan meal of our Oregon Northern coast trip and whoa, was it ever a doozy!!! My wife read about Mac'd & more on HappyCow so we decided to give them a try. They only have one vegan option, a cashew based mac'n'cheese ... and this one item is soooo worth the trip! The dish was very hearty, will easily feed two, very creamy texture with a cheesy/nutty flavor. In addition to the great flavor already baked in (pun fully intended lol), they have many additional toppings you can add at $.75 per topping or $5 for unlimited toppings, such as broccoli, sun dried tomato, mushrooms and .. lots more to choose from.

Great pizza, friendly staff, wonderful owner, just a great place to pop in for lunch if your in Astoria!

Great pizza, kind and accommodating owner. My son doesn't eat melted cheese and they made us a pizza with some slices that had no cheese and cut them perfectly so there was zero cheese on them. A great experience!

I wasn't planning to get a huge container of pasta today but here we are. You can create your own bowl which is what I did and they have A LOT of different options you can add to your pasta. It look about 15 minutes to get the food because we were one of the first customers and they had to warm up the oven. They have some inside seating but we decided to sit outside for a while because it was a nice day. The staff also brought my dog a bowl of water which he was highly satisfied with.

The photo cannot do any justice to how great this pizza was! Perfect crust, seasoned just right, but the CHEESE PULL was out of this world and cannot be matched for the price! Thank you for a lovely meal, in a clean establishment with superb service! Mac n cheese was light and splendid and was so good it didn't make the photo op oops!

The indoor seating is in an old greenhouse, which gives the whole place a quirky, laid-back coastal feel. Best of all, they're dog friendly! The French fries (aka British for chips) in my Fried Scallop Full Order basket were cooked just right & plentiful. The scallops were plump and mouth watering! Fresh Coleslaw tasted like it was made that day too. My lunch time desire for seafood made me order a cup of their creamy Clam chowder. Every spoon full had a piece of yummy clam and potatoes were cooked perfectly as well. Because we had driven leisurely to Astoria from Portland Oregon, my appetite was huge. So I ordered their Onion Rings and they were fried to perfection. The order taker, food runners and any staff we encountered, were super courteous and attentive to our requests & first time dining questions. The outdoor setting is massive, fully covered for many tables and super clean. Am so looking forward to returning very soon to Ship Out Fish & Chips to eat their delectable seafood

South Bay Wild Fish House absolutely knocked it out of the park…read more I had the clam chowder followed by the lingcod fish and chips, and both were outstanding. The chowder was rich, flavorful, and loaded with clams without being overly heavy. The lingcod was fresh, perfectly cooked, and had that light, crisp batter you want on fish and chips -- not greasy, not buried in breading, just damn good fish. My wife had the fresh Dungeness crab fry bread with chimichurri sauce, and that may have stolen the show. The crab was incredibly fresh and sweet, the fry bread was fantastic, and the chimichurri added just enough brightness and flavor without overpowering the crab. What really stood out, though, was talking with the owner. He told us how much pride he takes in catching the seafood he serves, and you can absolutely taste that pride in the food. He was also genuinely great to talk with -- friendly, down-to-earth, and clearly passionate about what he does. There's something special about eating seafood at a place where the person serving it actually knows where it came from and has a hand in bringing it to the table. That kind of connection and pride is getting harder to find. Great food, fresh seafood, and great people. South Bay Wild Fish House is absolutely worth the stop, and we'll definitely be back.

The decor is eclectic, but really cute - there's plenty of seating, they even have an upstairs. We started with the chowder, which was more soupy than I was expecting, like not thick at all. However, it had really good flavor and was packed full of potatoes and clams. I probably wouldn't get it again though because I prefer a thick chowder. My mom got the fish tacos and really enjoyed them. I eat a lot of fish tacos and I think I prefer mine fried, but these were heaping full and a big portion. The rest of us got the rockfish and chips. The fish was tender, fresh, and delicious. I really liked the breading, it was crispy and thick, but it did fall apart super easily. These are definitely delicate. The fries were big and well seasoned. I also liked their tartar sauce a lot and they had every sauce imaginable on the table. The staff was friendly, the food was solid, and the portion sizes were big.

The place was clean, and everybody was friendly. Half of the place is the bar, half of the place is the restaurant. They even have a small gift shop in the corner of the restaurant. When you first walk in, you check in with the bartender, and then you just find a seat in the restaurant. I was served quickly. I decided to go for a cup of the smoked clam chowder, and the rockfish fish and chips. You have several different choices of what kind of fish you want for your fish and chips. They also have a good choice of other items on the menu Once I put in my order, the food comes quickly. The clam chowder was amazing. The smokiness of the clams Comes over into the soup. It was a smoky flavor, but it did not overwhelm the soup. It complimented it very well. There was a very generous portion of the clams and other ingredients. Dear Lord, I couldn't believe the size of that platter of fish and chips. Two giant pieces of rockfish, a very generous portion of fries, and a coleslaw. You also get ketchup for your fries, and a very delicious tartar sauce. I liked the coleslaw. It was not overdressed, and had just a little bit of a peppery bite. The pepper did not overwhelm the coleslaw. The fish was not overly battered, and not greasy at all. The fish was flaky and rich. The fries had just a littlle bit of a crisp on the outside, and were perfectly tender on the inside. The entire meal was amazing. It was so big, I brought one of the pieces of rockfish and about half of my fries back to my motel for breakfast the next morning. It heated up perfectly in the microwave and was just as good the following morning. For all I got, the price was extremely reasonable, and they also do a military/veterans discount. I will remember this place. Thank you!

I walked in about 10 minutes before closing and offered to take my food to go, but my server told me that while the kitchen was closing, I was still welcome to eat in the dining room since the bar would remain open. I didn't catch her name, but she was "awesome possum"--cute, short, energetic, and full of the kind of fun, friendly banter you would expect from Flo at a classic diner. She made the whole experience even better. I ordered the FishMonger fish and chips platter, which came with two pieces of tuna, plus cod, rockfish, and salmon. It was an incredible amount of food for only $24! The batter was perfectly crunchy and flavorful, the fish tasted fresh, and the portions were very generous. I barely managed to finish it, but I persevered--mostly by sacrificing the fries! The only slightly confusing part was finding the restaurant. Some of the reviews made it sound like a standalone location, but FishMongers is actually located inside the South Jetty dining room and bar. Once I found it, though, I loved the atmosphere. It had a great, relaxed vibe, excellent food, and outstanding service. I will definitely be back!

That's just a fail, and it suggests a place that doesn't bother keeping things fresh. It kind of went downhill from there. We were looking for nice fresh fish and chips, wile we were out along the coast. We live near the coast ourselves, and are no strangers to good seafood. We decided to do the Cod and the Halibut fish and chips. While the halibut seemed fresh, the cod was waxy and looked old, and frankly i found it somehow mildly nauseating. I couldn't bring myself to teat it. The batter was crsipy, but lacked seasoning and tasted really flat (cardboard?). Aside from that, the coleslaw seemed pretty old soggy. Gross. Not impressed at all - some of the worst fish and chips I have ever had. Some people may like this kind of food - but i will actively avoid this place the next time in Astoria.
