The next day, I spent three hours on the phone with KitchenAid who informed me there was no one in the area who could fix the microwave/oven; although, we could call a KitchenAid certified repair company in Mount Vernon. I call them, and they said they don't repair anything they didn't initially install. Really? I decided to call Broadview Appliance not knowing whether they repaired KitchenAid appliances. The gist of the two-minute call with Broadview was "No problem. We can come out in three days." Sure enough, AJ, the appliance magician, showed up a few days later and immediately assessed the issue, sharing that not only would it be no problem to get the parts, but it would cost significantly less than the Mount Vernon company had estimated it would cost. The snow delayed AJ having to install the parts, but as promised, our microwave/oven was repaired and running smoothly before Christmas. There aren't words to express our gratitude for Broadview Appliance and the professionalism and laser-focused diagnostics done by AJ. Broadview deserves six stars and not five!

Our brand-new Sharp undercounter, drawer convection/microwave unit stopped working a few months ago. We are hosting 12 guests this Thanksgiving, so having a functional microwave is critical for our hosting event. When I first consulted Angi's List for vetted/trusted appliance repair companies in the local area, all I got was ridiculously over-priced estimates from national repair firms ($800+ estimate) I'm a big believer in supporting local businesses. So I found Skagit-Island Appliance Repair via Google. My first attempt to schedule a home visit to assess -- and hopefully fix -- my microwave, was made via their website on November 2, 2024. After getting no response to my web request, I called their posted phone number 3 days later. The voicemail message informed me that they were closed (not sure why) until November18th. OK... so I waited patiently for another 2 weeks. WIth Thanksgiving just over a week away, I was getting anxious. Another call that went to VM (again) and an unanswered text message over the past 2 days, tells me that Scott is so overwhelmed with work that he cannot be bothered by new customer requests, is dealing with a personal emergency that doesn't allow him to respond to correspondence and communication requests, or simply has chosen to ignore repeated requests for service. So, having still not heard back, thats the reason for the BAD 1-star rating.

It is neatly laid out and displayed. They state they also have appliances, but there weren't many at the time of my visit. It goes to a good cause, but I thought some things were priced a little high. I feel that most people who would patronize the store are looking for a bargain in the first place because they don't have the money to buy new retail, so it could stand to be marked a little lower to move it. On the other hand, there were some nice pieces marked down to what I thought was a good price. It's possible, if you speak to a manager, they may have a little wiggle room to come down. It's definitely worth checking out.

I used to be a huge fan of Habitat and our family has donated many items to them. Over the past…read moreyear they've refused many items that we've tried to donate and their employees/volunteers have been very rude when refusing them. I understand that they can't take everything, but when you have a nice piece of furniture with a few cobwebs and are told, "That's gross. We can't take that. Bugs probably laid eggs in it." that's unprofessional. We've gotten some very snarky and sharp comments from both the Freeland and Oak Harbor personnel. There are professional and diplomatic ways to refuse items without insulting the owners. This week we were again abruptly told our (brand new!) items were unacceptable and the employee/volunteer turned his back and walked away without further discussion. We had called ahead before bringing an appliance in to ensure we did so properly. When we arrived we were lectured at length about how we transported it when we weren't given that information. They wouldn't accept it until we'd been "cut down to size." Management here really needs to train their employees/volunteers to be courteous, professional, and evaluate belongings objectively. I remain confused and amazed by the condition of items we see on their store shelves when we've had a number of much nicer items refused. I'm astounded that some of their employees/volunteers seem to be on a power trip over their customers, on whose donations they rely to support their business model. Do better, Habitat. We've had so many bad experiences with your personnel's attitudes at this point that we've stopped shopping there and take our donations elsewhere. We've also stopped promoting them through the nonprofits we're associated with.
