The guy who came out took over 3 hours to "Diagnose" the problem, but because he had taken way longer than it should have, he only charged us for two hours. Got an estimate that the unit needed a new heat kit and we accepted it. NOTE: Their estimates try to be general and I do not like a general estimate when the cost is over a thousand dollars. They came out and put in the 'heat kit' and the heat worked. The only problem was it would not shut off when it reached the correct temp on the thermostat. We called Northwind and told them of the problem and they sent someone out. This guy was similar to the other in that it took him 4 hours to diagnose the problem and each time he would tell us it was a problem, we would say, "But your guys fixed that." and his story as to what the problem was would change. We were told at least 4 different reasons this was not working. He finally settled on it was a valve on the roof and he had tested it with a magnet. The other problem was the guy would stand around and talk to employees the whole time he was here. Then he called a manager up to the front to tell her he was only going to charge for 2 hours. I was there and heard it and left her to sign. The next morning I get an invoice charging us 4 hours for sending out the village idiot. I immediately called Northwind and was put through to someone named Dale with an attitude. I explained the issue and he had said well you don't have to be upset and I told him I wasn't and was speaking in a normal tone and am just telling him the issue. He apologized and made a comment that he was just saying it because of others?!? Then he told me he was going to check into it and call me back. That was on 1/25, a week ago yesterday, and he still hasn't gotten around to it. I called another A/C company and they immediately found the problem. Whoever put in the heat kit or the person coming to 'diagnose' the overheating issue had burned out an entire circuit board. The actual problem was fixed when they reset the thermostat but now we have to buy a new board to be able to have heat in the front of the building. Northwind used to be good. Undoubtedly they are scraping the bottom of the hiring barrel now due to their growth. The people they are sending out now are incompetent, lazy, and slow. Oh, but they do continuously send you reminders that you have an estimate you haven't agreed to!!! You need to sign it so they can send another village idiot out. USE ANYONE ELSE

We were quoted anything from $11k-$26k, and Mabry's came in at around $8k. They came and installed everything quickly and efficiently, in a few hours. The staff was friendly, knowledgeable, and professional. They knew what they were doing and did it well. Over the following years they have come out quickly for concerns and minor repairs, and have been more than fair with their pricing for these service calls, even when the issue was caused by other contractors, such as an electrician that didn't wire the HVAC to a new breaker box correctly. This morning I discovered the unit wasn't working, and that there was a breaker tripped in the breaker box, again. I called Mabry's around noon and spoke to Deborah, who was delightful, and they were here by 2:30, with Julio, who has worked with us from the very beginning, and Nathan, who I learned runs Mabry's. They diagnosed our issue, a bad transformer, within 5 minutes, and had it fixed in 30 minutes. They informed me that it was a warranty covered repair and got us back to a cool house quickly. BUYER BEWARE - THINK TWICE BEFORE CHOOSING VANDERFORD AIR…read more I chose Vanderford Air because their website promises "Customer Satisfaction is our #1 Priority," "Quality Workmanship," "Honest Communication," and "Repairs Done Right the First Time." Unfortunately, my experience over the last three years has been the exact opposite. I purchased a brand-new A/C system in July 2023. Within a week, it wasn't cooling properly due to low refrigerant. The same issue happened again in 2024, but instead of finding the leak, I was told to spend more money on a second return. They installed the wrong return box, damaged my ceiling, and later I discovered they failed to connect the drain properly, causing water damage inside my wall that I had to repair myself. In July 2026, the system again wasn't cooling. The technician confirmed the condenser coil was leaking, even though I had complained about refrigerant loss since shortly after installation. When I spoke with Service Manager Dan, he claimed there was no history of my previous service calls until I provided documentation. Rather than taking responsibility, he dismissed my concerns and refused to let me contact the owner directly. After negotiating, I agreed to pay $1,200 because I was promised the leaking coil would be replaced and the incorrect return installation would finally be corrected. When repair day arrived, the crew wasn't even Vanderford employees--they were third-party subcontractors. They showed up with the coil but knew nothing about fixing the return box. While working, one of the subcontractors fell from my attic ladder carrying equipment. I was more concerned about making sure he was okay than Vanderford seemed to be. I requested a call from management and never received one. After spending thousands on a new HVAC system, I've dealt with repeated refrigerant leaks, poor workmanship, home damage, broken promises, and a lack of accountability. Based on my experience, I cannot recommend Vanderford Air.

Over the past 4 years I have spent over 20,000 with them only to find out most of what had been done is either useless or not done correctly. Every time I've had an issue they have sent techs out that eventually tell me I needed new coils, new dampers, new plumbing, to have my ducts cleans, and a new outside unit. I don't know a lot about AC so I take it as they are being honest and I just want my AC to run correct. But last year we invested 13000 in a new outside unit, by their recommendation, to fix the new issues we were having and things got worse after that. The house never really cooled correctly after getting the unit and I had humidity issues inside the house. They would send people out to look at it but I was always told things were great. Eventually the compressor in the brand new unit went out and even though it was less than 10 months old and under warranty I was charged 1400 to put the new one in for the "labor" costs. The issues with cooling and humidity continued after the pieces was replaced. I then decided to reach out to a new company to get their opinion on my issues and when the owner of the new company arrived he literally laughed when he saw my ac unit and the work that had been done. He asked who had done it because he wanted to call them himself and complain once he found out what I had been charged. He found holes everywhere in my duct work that had been coved with layers of tape after tape, Leaks around every new damper they had installed and several of the dampers had zero insulation round them and was allowing air to leave the system and hot air to enter. , thus causing my humidity issues and not allowing it to cool the house properly. He also said the compressor issue was because the unit they recommended I buy was not made for the system I have installed and it was overworking and will continue to go out over and over. I have attached pics of just some of the places where you see that they just taped over the issues. He said it was some of the worst ac work he has ever seen done by a "professional". We sat down and went over all the money I had spent with vanderford and what had been done for the money. I was told the majority of what I spent was not necessary if they would have just been honest with me and fixed the root cause of the issue to begin with. Maybe they were being dishonest, maybe their techs didn't know what they were looking for and couldn't find the issue, or maybe they just didn't care to fix it and kept taping the holes knowing I would keep spending money with them. Either way it sucks and Im kicking myself for the time and money I spent with them. The yearly maintenance plan is joke. Had it for 6 years and guys show up, act like they inspect your system and then recommend you buy something to make your system more efficient. FYI.. The new company fixed my issue in ONE day and completely redid the work that vanderford had done and my AC is running better and more efficient than it has in years. Vanderford had been trying to "fix" or "find" the issue for months. Thankfully I called them before the humidity issues vanderford was allowing to happened called mold issues or more in my home. My experiance dealing with Jose and his team during the installation was just as great. My condenser unit was on a small balcony on my 4th floor and the evaporator coil/air blower unit, Furnice were in the attic above the 4th floor. Jose was able to line up a crane and replace the old unit and install a new unit the same day as the qoute. The entire team was very professional and completed the work on time. My install was a week ago and everything has been working perfectly. My new unit is so quiet and I am noticing less humidity in the house as well. I highly recommened JD's AC & Heating if you are looking to hire a dependable and professional AC company.
