Typically I don't have the energy to write reviews and am more of a word of mouth type. But I have went to this shop I believe on 3 separate occasions and this last time, had been years since my last visit. Doesn't matter. Every time you come to this mechanic, the quality of work is as goods as you will get. But the reason for my review is the customer service. The man that owns the shop, Steve I believe is his name (could be wrong) will never take you lightly. Not only is his people skills a 10/10 he looks out for YOUR BEST INTEREST FIRST. Then let his work do the talking and will always no matter what, shoot you straight and let you know exactly what needs to be done and let you know realistically is the best choice of service! I am happy to say that, in discovering A & E Unlimited, I have found my auto repair home. THANK YOU YELPERS!! Eric is super nice, extremely patient with a woman's endless description of what is wrong with the car and extremely knowledgeable. He easily figures out the problem, despite my lengthy narrative of sounds and changes and properly repairs the car at the estimated time and price. I only gave 4 Stars because the shop hours are difficult for working folks. They are open from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm during the week and closed on Saturdays. I was visiting family in Virginia and on my drive over my check engine light came on. I went to auto zone for a diagnostic test and it revealed that my torque converter clutch solenoid was acting up plus a couple of other things. After reading the stellar reviews about Eric on yelp I decided to call him before I headed over. As a female I'm wary of mechanics trying to take advantage but Eric explained in detail what this item does for my vehicle and when I asked if I could wait until I got home, he proceeded to tell me that this would require funds and time, so going home to my mechanic would be best. Went in a second time with my freshly painted truck for him to install lowering springs so it wouldn't damage the front of my new front pumper and spoiler that had just been painted two weeks ago! We both looking at my new shiny bumper when I got there and I'm telling him why I'm lowering the rear end! He called me to pick up my truck 4 hours later and when I get there no lowering shackles and my new fiberglass pumper is busted to shits! He tells me it was like that when I bought it in. Brought my car in for a brake repair and an oil leak. I dropped the car off a bit after they opened. I did not receive a phone call until almost closing time, and I had to call them. Mechanic informs me they will have to keep my car overnight. I pick up the car the next day and brakes are fine but oil still leaks. I took it right back and the mechanic told me I was probably looking at old oil in my driveway. I said no it is still leaking. He said he would check it out. Again I had to call him to inquire about the status of my car: only to be told he would not have time to look at my car until tomorrow. I picked up my car and decided to take it to a shop that values my time and has the common courtesy to keep a customer informed. Two stars for at least fixing my brakes. This shop needs a lesson in customer service. Remember no customers no business! read more

Eric is amazing! I have been to a few mechanics in the area and none of them compare to A & E. I highly highly recommend coming here. Eric is honest, does a great job and is very reasonably priced. He had to replace a part in my husbands car and it was about $200 with labor, etc. I called Dellingers (the old auto body shop I use to go to that would constantly screw me over) and they were charging between $500-$600 for the same job! This place is phenomenal. A&E went above and beyond for me. They saved me about $700 dollars and they were extremely accommodating. The owner and his team are hardworking and honest mechanics and won't break the bank. They aren't the closest auto shop to me (the closest one is 5 mins away and A&E is 35 minutes away) but they are the best and this is how : I was recently experiencing some problems with my car. I was hearing an awful noise every time I would press on the brakes. Well luckily enough for me I had another auto motive shop right next to my job. I thought I would drop My car off there before my shift starts so they can take a look at it. They call me back 4 hours later and said that not only do I need brake pads but I need my calipers and rorturs replaced then they told me that I need to flush my brake fluid. The guy quoted me $900 dollars for all that work done. Luckily a good friend of mine knew a guy and it happened to be Eric, the owner of A&E unlimited. My friend suggested that I don't get the work done and get it to Eric before they close on Saturday. Well I didn't get there in time but Eric said he wouldn't let me drive with my car in that condition and took my car after hours!! He fixed my brakes in no time and all for $200!!! So, not only does my car run better than before but I saved $700 and now I have an auto shop that I can really depend on! Drive an older Toyota truck and had a belt that screamed at me when I started it up. Brought it here and was taken out to the truck to look it over. I was told what should be done now and what could wait. We chose to get everything done that was recommended which was a lot. Got the truck back in a few days. I took my car to this place on Friday to have my clutch looked at and see what I needed, Eric the owner said it needed the entire clutch and it would be $1100, so I drove my car to eastern autowerks in Norfolk (the car that needed an entire clutch) they said it only needed a slave cylinder and charged me $112 and had my car back on the road same day within two hours of me leaving A & E. Consumer beware not an honest person save your money and go elsewhere my friends!!! I have provided the evidence of the paperwork one is what I know now a false estimate for repairs by A & E and the other is the actual repair both of which were completed on 12/7/18, I Almost unknowingly wasted $1000 on a false repair. read more

You absolutely will not save money by going here, rather Eric the owner will give you a verbal estimate but when you go to pay the cost will be double that amount. I had to bring my car back twice for the same problem and it still hasn't been fixed properly. This shop not only does poor work, the owner is the most dishonest and difficult mechanic I've ever dealt with. If you are looking for good quality work by an honest mechanic....take your car elsewhere! Brought our car in on Wednesday and were told by Eric (the owner) that he would look at it Thursday, maybe Friday for an estimate. Nothing. Called and called with no answer and continued calling through Saturday. Started calling again on Monday. Finally got Eric on the phone who was annoyed we took time away from him when he's so busy to call about the car. Told us he couldn't get to it because it rained. Said he'd look at it and call us back later on Monday. I came in at 11am to check so I could get back in touch with the rental company and let them know if I'd need to extend the car (Eric knew this was a concern) and he told me told I'm just making him take longer by asking when he will look at it. The car has now been here 5 days and nobody has even looked at it. He also said he'd get to it today if he could, but might not. I asked why we were not notified of the delay, especially since he knew we had a rental. He said he's too busy to call us. He further told me that he only has two people that work here (himself and one other) while he told the other customers their car was delayed because all his mechanics kept calling out. He went on to tell me no other mechanic in town would work on the car and that we were welcome to try to take it. So we called the BMW dealer who is getting it in right away and helping with rental expenses. Sad thing is, we were sent here by a mutual friend. So I wonder how non-friendly referrals are treated. Eric did come back in to apologize for yelling at me, said he wasn't tired and snappy. I'm tired too, but I can still call a customer back with a 30 second update especially if my busy day was supposedly cut short by the rain... read more

The staff is super friendly and they will tell you if you don't need to do X Y or Z. Compared to other places where they will say everything is wrong with your car and needs to be fixed. read more

Eric has been great to us as we try to nurse our two older cars along for a few more years. He takes time to explain what needs to be done and doesn't take the 'fast parts' route by using a pre-assembled kit but only replaces what is necessary. Several times we have gotten an estimate at a national chain, then gone to A&E and gotten a quote, and it is always lower. They do quality work! read more

So I was changing my oil on my 2015 Chevy Colorado this past weekend, and I ended up breaking the head bolt on top of the oil filter housing cap off. I took off the engine air filter cover, engine cover, and moved some electrical wires and hoses to make some space to work. I tried using oil filter pliers and even tried using a 25" breaker bar in combination with bolting on a new oil filter wrench cap to the broken cap. None of those methods worked. It was stuck on there pretty good. So I ended up towing my truck to A&E Unlimited. They tried to remove the broken oil filter housing cap in-place too but without success. So they called me and told me that they needed to take the oil filter housing assembly off the block so they can put a plumbers wrench to it. $500 later, they got the broken cap off without damaging the oil filter housing assembly. I'm picking up my truck later on today. I will update my review later after I pick up my truck and go over what they did with Eric. read more
