I've had good and bad experiences over the years. Alla has done some AMAZING work - she altered a gown to fit my pregnant belly in less than a week! But there have been some shortcomings as well - 3 of my silk work shirts (not cheap) were slimmed too much so that I couldn't button them anymore! Pretty egregious. At this point, I would probably recommend her for basic jobs, but I still drive up to the west side for my expensive pieces. The woman was very nice, however she was very over priced. I was charged the same amount of money to have one dress taken in and one dress hemmed ($40 a pop, which was more than double what I paid to have a similar dress hemmed in the valley a few years ago)... While the work was top-notch, she said the dress that only got hemmed didn't need to be taken in.. it's now to loose. The dress she did take in can still be pulled down off of me. I don't know too much about the world of tailoring, so I have little to compare to. I don't typically alter clothes, I just wear the ones my mommy buys me ;) I do, however, know about customer service, and this place is the bee's knees! I brought in a couple of pants to get resized since I'm less fat than I used to be. Alla took my measurements, and told me it would be $40 per pair, or $80 total. She'd call me when they were ready. Well, that was around five weeks ago. Alla called two days later to tell me to pick them up, and I was able to spend all the money that I had in that 48 hour window. As you can guess, it wasn't that much. So I ducked her. For a while. And she was persistent. She would call me every week, asking me when I would come by to pick the pants up. I kept telling her, "as soon as I wasn't broke!" I even tried picking them up and using a credit card. I guess I forgot that she only takes cash or checks. I avoided her call for another three weeks after that. What does the graceful and patient Alla do today? She calls to ask me when I am coming in, I tell her I'm coming in right now (enough was enough already), and then she OFFERED ME A FREE SUIT! Yeah, after all that, she still had the compassion to give me a suit that was donated to her from some Euro. The suit was too big, but the fact that she reached out like that after all I've put her through, gives her a big fat A+ in my book. I will always go back to her when I eventually need to loosen the waist after gaining back the weight I have lost. You should too! read more

A&I Friendly Tailor is GREAT!! I will definitely be coming back to see Alla and bring her anything that needs tailoring. I will also tell others about her and recommend they see Alla for their tailoring needs. I received an email for a job interview with only the weekend to prepare. I really needed my suit tailored since I lost a bit of weight and knew that I would be swimming in it. I couldn't make it to A&I Friendly Tailor on Saturday and had to risk coming in on Monday morning and rush it to be finished by Tuesday morning. I made it there first thing when they opened and was measured up. Alla called me a few hours later with a price and let me know that she could completed it by the next morning. SAVED MY BUTT!! I didn't know what else I would have done if Alla didn't come through. Just as the name of the shop, Alla and Gary were VERY nice, friendly, and helpful. They didn't give me a hard time at all for asking them to rush my suit. I felt that the pricing was very reasonable for what I was asking for and the time I gave them to complete it. I've meant to write this review a little earlier, but here goes.. I brought a hi lo American flag skirt into Alla on the 4th of July thinking there was no way possible she would be able to finish or if the garment could be finished it would cost me a fortune. But she simple took all my measurements down and told me she'd have it done in simply hours. I was astonished, I had called every tailor from culver city to Santa Monica and each of them quoted me almost 2-3x more than Alla did and they also said it was impossible. I have brought in a couple pants to get hemmed.. she is nice and fast and prices are reasonable. One thing I always forget is to bring a pair of heels to try on with the pants - she happens to have a few heels lined up for you to tear but it's always good to bring your own :) read more

She told me take it or leave it, that's my job! I asked her to fix it and she started yelling at me!!! Small shops like this are sometimes hard to find. I came in to get a pair of pants altered for a wedding and I was in and out really quickly, the pants were ready the next day..and the prices are really good as well. Took an uncompleted suit to Alla that my Dad gave me. She showed me how nice the suit was by actually pointing out particular seams and sewing techniques. She took my measurements and told me that it was a big job and she would have it done in a week. A week later I came by and it fit like a glove with all the uncompleted areas nicely finished. She's handled several things for me, from simple hemming to significant alterations on a high-end suit. I've seen a couple women have wedding dresses altered and they were happy. Bottom line - Alla is the BEST! I did not want to put up a review of Alla for fear she would get too much business and would slow down her service. My first job for her was a test - a jacket I had custom made overseas out of lovely raw Indian silk. It was 2 sizes too big. I asked Alla if she could take it all in. She did a spectacular job. The entire jacket had to be taken apart and re-cut. I took a bunch more stuff to her and then turned my new girlfriend on to Alla. Bonnie got some of her fav old clothes re-cut. The last thing was Bonnie took down 13 items - pants for new elastic, re-size pants [Bonnie is down to about 85 pounds], etc, etc. Alla not only fixed everything perfectly BUT because I went out of town Alla's husband DELIVERED everything to Bonnie in Northridge! and Bonnie gave him MORE stuff. I really don't understand all of the positive reviews. I can see that if you just need a pair of pants hemmed she might be good, but anything other than that I would highly recommend against. I took my dress in after reading all of the positive reviews because it did not fit me at all and needed multiple adjustments. I rarely get things altered and was looking for some help. 1. She convinced me that the top looked ok and didn't really need any work. I now have the dress on sitting down and am very unhappy with the fit on the top, way too baggy. 2. Dress needed to be taken in on the sides - while it is a bit slimmer, she pinned it in probably 10 seconds and didn't really take the time to create the most flattering fit. Still unhappy with the fit. 3. Length. I specified a length and I thought we had agreed but when I picked up my dress it was still at least 2 inches too long. She kindly agreed to shorten it further for a very minimal price - I thought we agreed again on the length, but again, still too long by at least an inch. When I had the dress on I never really got a feel for how it would look in the end. It was haphazardly pinned on the sides and the bottom was pinned in one, maybe 2 places. That was the first time, I don't recal her pinning it all the second time. Bottom line, I'm not a tailor and was looking for someone to help me create a more flattering, tailored dress. I now have my dress, altered twice and I while it may be better than the potato sack it was before, I am still not satisfied with the fit. I laughed at my friend when she paid $180 to get hers altered, over 3 times as much as mine, until I saw it on her - her tailor did an amazing job. I would have paid the $180 to have mine look like hers. But I'll give it to her for being cheap though..I guess you get what you pay for. read more

She tried to talk me into more alterations with a higher price than I was willing to pay- ok fine, it happens, not a big deal right? My fiancee ordered a suit for our wedding from an online store, and when it came we loved the fabric and cut, but we needed a few tweaks here and there to make it just right. We went to yelp (obviously) to find the best tailor in marina del rey. A & I Friendly Tailor had the best reviews, so we gave it a try and boy was it worth it. Could not be happier with the work alla did. she is old school in all the right ways - warm but not overly friendly, professional, quick, honest. As soon as matt put on the suit, alla got to work. Without even a word from either of us, she started to make the exact changes we thought the suit needed - took in the arms and back of the jacket, brought in the seat of the slacks, and then told us that she would use the hemmed fabric to lengthen the sleeve and move the buttons to make the length exactly right. We came to pick up the suit 5 days later and it fit beautifully. But the best was yet to come... While matt started changing back into his street clothes, alla pulled out a coat hanger draped with neck ties. "Which one?" she whispered to me, "We'll surprise him." I picked a striped Brooks Brothers tie, and she smiled and folded it neatly into the bottom of the garment bag. We love her . Love her . Love. her . Want her to do our first son's briss. We've had 2 experiences with this Tailor. Unfortunately, the 2nd left us with such a horrid taste, that we will never give them another dollar of business. In June, I brought my simple wedding dress in for Alla to fix. It wasn't a fancy dress at all, just a short slip on dress (with no details or added layers) that needed to be altered down a size. It took her about a week, I was satisfied with the work, and it only cost $40. Nothing to complain about. Her service was questionable, and I wouldn't necessarily call her polite, but she got the job done. Soon after, based on the first experience, my husband decided to bring a new suit in to get tailored. As with most suits, they always need some altering depending on your shape, to make them fit just right. This usually includes more than just a sleeve and pant hem. She insisted that nothing needed to be done, although it was clear that the collar didn't hang correctly on him, and there was bunching in the back yolk area of his jacket. He's had several suits tailored before, and has a pretty good idea of the procedure. This should have been our first indication to take it elsewhere, she didn't know what she was doing. 2 weeks later, we went to pick it up. All she had done was shortened the sleeves. And she had done it from the top shoulder seam(rather than the hem because of button holes, which is fine), but she didn't alter the sleeve width at all to compensate. Basically, his arms no longer fit down the sleeves. And the jacket fit horribly, it looked like he was trying to fit into a child's jacket. When we asked about the collar and back bunching, she again insisted that it didn't need to be done. So she sent us away with an even poorly fitting jacket, and charged us $100. I was extremely disappointed, and decided to go back and have her fix the jacket to at least the condition of when we brought it in. She would not take any responsibility for her actions, and refused us service. She insisted that she did what was asked, and fixed it correctly the first time, and that nothing could be done. Then she called my husband overweight, and insisted that the only way this suit would fit is if he lost weight. Or suggested that he had put on weight between fittings, regardless, this "wasn't her fault". We have since brought the suit to another tailor, who was able to make some adjustments to the body of the jacket, for less than $100. It now fits perfectly, with no bunching or tight sleeves. For simple alterations, yes. I think she can get the job done. BUt for anything more complicated, she is over her head. Combined with a complete lack of customer service and people skills, I don't see a reason to waste any money on this business. You should be able to tell your tailor "no, this does not fit correctly, fix it" without an argument and being insulted. There's almost a tailor on every block in this city, find somewhere else. read more

I would have never found this tiny and virtually impossible to find place if it were not for Yelp! I had some jeans hemmed and the tailor did a great job for $10. Her attention to detail was evident when she asked me what color thread I wanted. Why go to the cleaners for tailoring when a tailor-only place will do the job for the same price? Be sure to call ahead and make sure that Alla will be there when you arrive. There's a little bit of a language barrier so it's best to try and be patient and considerate. Alla was wonderful! I found her here on Yelp. I went in the other day to get a dress altered on the same day I needed it. I knew it was a gamble and was hoping it would work out. She was pretty busy and 3 other people came in while I was there. She was helping a gentleman with a suit, he was coming to pick up. He was admiring her handy work in the mirror and left quite satisfied. I showed her my dress and asked her if she could do it today. At first she looked doubtful, but after I showed her what I needed and that it was just a few changes because the chest area was too big, she said she could do it and to come back in about four hours. I was so relieved! When I came back to get my dress I was in and out in just a few minutes for a great price, much less than I expected to pay, especially with me needing it in a rush. Anytime I need something altered I will definitely be back! My dress fit me perfectly! It looked great and so did I. I got lots of compliments on my dress all night long and even had a couple people ask me if I had lost weight. I had to confess, no it's the dress! Some people say she is not that friendly in other reviews but I thought she was very nice and friendly. I talked to her for a bit while I was there and she was very warm. She told me she has had this business for 13 years and lots of her customers have been coming to her for years. I believe it as she seemed to know all the people coming in and they all smiled appreciatively at her, like they already knew what a great job she did.
