He had been out of the country, so we were trying to handle it as a walk-in. The older blonde woman I spoke with immediately told us, in an incredibly rude and dismissive tone, that they were fully booked and that we needed to make an appointment online. That's fine. I understand that appointments are required. But since I was already standing in the store, I simply asked if she could help us book an appointment or have someone else assist us. Instead, she repeatedly told me she was doing a fitting and made absolutely no effort to help, answer our questions, or even direct us to another employee who could. She could have easily said, "Let me find someone who can help you," but instead we were essentially just turned away. It's not the fact that they were booked that bothers me. It's the attitude and complete lack of customer service. I'm already a customer who has rented multiple suits through The Black Tux, and this is how I'm treated when I walk into one of their stores asking for help? At this point, I'm seriously considering returning everything I've purchased/rented and taking my business somewhere else. Being busy is understandable. Being dismissive and rude to your customers is not.

I shared some inspiration pics before my first appointment and Sherri immediately knew what I was looking for and pulled great options for me to try. I quickly found my top choice and came back a few days later to make the purchase. Sherri was very knowledgeable about every dress in her shop and supported me every step of the decision. I felt so confident saying yes to the dress here! This is a hidden gem tucked away in Sawtelle. It's not pretentious but rather a casual and relaxed atmosphere with fairly priced dresses and accessories. I also love that they do alterations in house. Will come back to share pics after I get married in 2027 if I remember!

There has never been a more penny pinching and less moral booking policy. Only 15 of my 200+…read morereviews are 1 star, so I don't choose that ranking lightly, especially for a small local business. We booked an appointment 4 or 5 days ahead of time, as there was full availability on the calendar for weekdays. There is a 48 hour cancellation window, and at hour 47 we realized that the timing conflicted slightly with a work matter (when we made the appointment we were in New York and miscalculated the time difference). An email was sent at the 47th hour (1 hour after the window), mentioning the issue and asking if it could still be canceled since it was so close to the window, and apologizing for missing the window. The owner replied and specifically said "No problem, we've gone ahead and canceled the appointment for you". At this point, we figured all was well as they made no mention of still charging the fee. A few weeks later, we noticed the charge was still there. A quick email reply came when we inquired saying it was past their window and no refund was due. IF this was the case, why did the original email not say so and why did they make 0 effort to reschedule or ask if another time worked better? OR we could have made it work if she hadn't responded so positively. What a slimy way to make a quick $27 for nothing. I will restate that the calendar was still really really open (ie, it was not a highly sough after appointment slot taken from anyone else even on the off chance they were booking in the 2-4 days out window). Overall, it is a blessing the appointment didn't happen after reading some of these reviews about how the owner acts in person (no surprise there). Ended up with a beautiful dress from Berta and would highly recommend their new LA showroom on Beverly.

Tl;dr: If you have a thing for clothes and want to experience the "best of the best" (in every…read moreregard), Jerry and Ivan at JB Clothiers are the guys to see. Period. From the first call to the final fitting - and their post-delivery followup - every aspect of my experience with them was aces. In too much detail: Absolutely fantastic in every regard - JBC isn't merely the finest tailoring Los Angeles has to offer - it's literally a "Destination Clothier." This is going to be a long review - but then again I had a really wonderful experience, and in so many ways, that I can't sum it up quickly. Personal background - I have 25 years' experience selling exotic cars to very high net worth clientele in Los Angeles, and I am very aware of a what a luxury experience looks and feels like. So I sort of walked in the door "loaded for bear." My other experiences had the veneer of luxury, but not the substance of luxury nor the quality of product. A glass of wine doesn't overcome the fact that the end result is a disappointment. Anyway - I could no longer find clothes "on the rack" that were made of fabrics I wanted (sport coats and suits in particular). I had tried two "made to measure" clothing stores (Suit Supply and Indochino) and been disappointed with the results, so I searched for a literal in-Los Angeles custom tailoring service (where I could consult *directly* with the tailor - not just an on-site rep for a tailor half a world away). After much deliberation, I made an appointment with JB. I must admit I was somewhat skeptical by this point, when I arrived for my first consult, even after all my investigation. The feel of JB Clothiers is EXACTLY what I was hoping to find when I walked in for my first consult. After meeting Jerry (the founder/proprietor) and his partner Ivan, I had great confidence that my research had paid off. The conversation about what I was looking for and how they could achieve it was quite in-depth (and I actually learned a few things about my taste). Jerry and Ivan suggested subtle ways of "expanding my taste envelope" while still well within my taste bandwidth. There are myriad choices to make - and with each one I was getting more excited to see the end result. The measuring process was thorough and precise, having me adopt different postures and re-measuring many times. I was there for the better part of an hour. About a month later, Jerry called to set up the first fitting appointment. I about died when I saw my coat for the first time. It's gorgeous and not so much a coat, as a garment, I think. The details are exquisite - and they are everywhere, beyond the special embroidery you'll be offered. It is quite literally a work of art. We tried it on, and made various adjustments, and I left not sure I'd be able to wait until it came back. Long story about how I Dunning-Kreuger'd the first alterations, which were literally put back on the 2d fitting. Sorry I wasted your time, guys. But by this time, I was so hooked on both the product and the experience, that I added a matching pair of slacks to the coat, turning it into a 2-Piece Suit. Going back the third time, I picked up the pants - they are not only gorgeous with the same attention to detail as the coat, but they fit me unlike any pants I have ever owned IN MY LIFE. They are utterly incredible. Fantastic! At the last fitting all of this was immediately and obviously worth every penny and every second of time. And admittedly, I'd added considerably to the time by the alterations I thought I wanted in the first fitting. I have tried this suit on with nearly every shirt/tie combo I can put together - it it so wonderful! This experience was very much a splurge for me - and I plan to do it again as soon as I can. Yes - I spent about 50% more than I would have for a Canali suit off the rack. But I got 5x the suit as a result. I'll never again waste money on clothing - what JB made for me is a lifetime investment, and no clothes I've ever had fit that description. Really not sure how to better convey my enthusiasm than to say I can't wait for the next time I decide to tread myself and add to my wardrobe. At the end of the day, the expenditure at JB will actually saved me in the long run - no more wasted money on clothes that are sorta "close enough" but never right. And no more wasted time trying to find them, either. Did I mention I love this suit? I love this suit! And I had a total blast along the way! Thanks guys!

This place is nice but maybe a little overrated…read more Jerry's not a bad guy and probably not a bad salesman. I thought I was coming in for a consultation, and I liked the fabrics and patterns we came up with, but he was disappointed that I was not ready to throw down $4,000 for the custom suit that day. (He convinced me that anything cheaper in his shop wasn't worth my time.) I can see why he likes to close the deal the day of. The more I thought about it, the less comfortable I felt throwing down than much for this suit... I had a few other reasons, too. Anyway, I sent a message to the store the next day, politely explaining why that I appreciated Jerry's time, but the shop wasn't for me. Jerry ended up calling me, and I wish I hadn't answered. He started trying to get me to get his cheaper stuff that had already talked me out of. He was pushy, dismissive of my reasons and all around unpleasant. I think they have some off the-rack suits available, too, and I believe they offer tailoring, but I am no longer interested. He'll probably respond to this and be dismissive again, but those are my two cents. He has a nice assistant. I won't pretend it's bad quality. Still three stars.

Are you ready to join us Elites?…read more Then you have to get a Tuxedo from Elite Tuxedo and raise your status up immediately. Who knows--you may be invited to dinner with the President? I am going to tell you the good and not so good and the reason they did not earn 4/5-Stars: The Good: The Salesmen knew his stuff, understood the different cuts, and was gracious with his time helping me with Tux rental choices, what the packages includes and sizing me. He knew what he was doing and that's 50% of the battle. Parking is free and easy in the Back of the Store. They have a clean nice restroom. They have fitted shirts and fitted pant for my Athletic body. Tux comes with Shoes, Shirt, Tie, Buttons, Cuff links and the salesman will show you how to put it all on. I was thankful that me made the tie up for me at pickup so I just had to put it back on with no adjustment for the wedding day. The Not So Good: When I came to pick up the Tux and tried it on it, they forgot to lengthen one sleeve. The salesman said it looked fine, but it was ridiculously short--he just did not want to be bothered. The buttons they gave me were too small and kept popping out of the shirt--I literally had to keep buttoning it up more than 25 times. After the ceremony I just took all the gold/black buttons off and used the clear shirt buttons. Need larger buttons for this shirt. Two of the buttons were new and shiny gold, and two tarnished old. I was promised new buttons and cuff-links but they gave me old and I forgot to check. One cuff-link clasp was warn and would not stay closed and popped off tot he ground. I had to finish the wedding with out the cuff-links. So in sum--they have poor buttons and cuff-links here--maybe buy your own in Macy's? I was given the wrong shoes at pickup and they did not fit. The salesman acknowledged that and found the shoes that were on my contract but not before telling me to try to fit in the wrong too tight shoes first. Limited rental style choices here. Rental was $185 which is expensive for what you are getting. ---------- TIPS: When you come here to pick up your stuff give lot's of time to try on and check, check, check that it's all correct. There is high likelihood things will not be done right as I experienced. They may tell you it's right to get you out of the store but be tough! Stand your ground! I probably would rent somewhere else next time. If I was more than an invited guest at an important event--I would not rent here. Better practice is to just buy your own Tux. They only adjust sleeve length and pants length on rentals. --- In sum, Tux looked good for the wedding as a guest, but it was a lot of work and time to get it right! Better to buy a Tux if you are going to more than 1 event.
