I reached out to them by phone regarding a console table that was damaged in my home due to a major water leak. I spoke with his wife and later him who advised me to bring it in for an estimate. DO NOT PAY THIS COMPANY IN CASH AS THEY ASK - AS IT TURNS OUT, you may want to have the added protection of a credit card purchase, or rescind a payment after you see the results. I was very disappointed in the way Jad repaired a chair that meant a lot to me. He was very forthcoming about what he would need to do (ok, his description was a little exaggerated, but I thought he was a nice guy who seemed to know what he was doing - [my mistake]. I picked up my chair today, that I now refer to as Franken-chair! It was as if zero skill/craftsmanship went into this job and frankly looked like he didn't know what/how to do the repairs causing the final product to look really bad. Plus,He didn't so much as run a dust rag over the chair before returning it! Then he wiped it down with an acetone rag that discolored where he wiped it. Jad then proudly announced that he had 'done the feet' (no charge) because they needed it, I envisioned newly polished legs - but instead I found a barely painted / stained layer of color on the legs that (1) wasn't dry and came off on my hands, and (2) wasn't even really processed in the way one would ever choose or consider to be finished. A fairly nasty experience with this guy. He was rude from the get go. He kept telling the delicate nature of the work and what he would need to do with my chair. He was obsessed with pointing out previous upholsters' work. Ok I agreed to a slightly higher price, but though he would be fine. Then I asked about other work, (there will be 4 wing chairs and 6 dining room chairs that would need work. He got upset and stated that it would be cheaper to reupholster the dining room chairs. Whatever, we can figure that out. But when I showed him I had fabric (as I have all the fabics I have used and plan to use) he stated it would be more expensive if I had my own fabric. Why? because he would not make any money on selling me fabric. I questioned his ethics, integrity and told him I believe he was viewing me as a dollar sign, not a customer. He got SO angry, I really must have struck a nerve. I told him I was no longer comfortable to move forward, and his anger level rose to screaming at me in the parking lot, telling me I have F***king problems. Professional? NO, Reliable? Probably not. I have every belief that once he had my furniture apart, there would be additional charges. His level of anger tells me I was right and to move on. I'm glad I trusted my gut. Came home and read all these other reviews that support my experience. Buyer beware. read more

We just had a fifty year old Windsor style rocking chair repaired by Jad and are extremely happy with the results and overall experience. As Meredith mentioned in her review, Jad provided an extremely honest assessment of what we could expect from the repair and how long it would take. I felt like i was getting the work of a true craftsman as opposed to someone who was just going to slap a few screws into the chair to hold it together. This level of craftsmanship takes time and money (in the case of our chair, 3 months and ~$200 to fix several cracked spindles and bring the chair back to usable condition). Bottom line, if you wan't the highest quality repair and are willing to accept these costs, i think you'll be extremely happy with the results. Recommend looking up his location online before heading over as the store isn't the easiest to find. I agree with Meredith's review and recommend reading it. read more

I just hope this review will help someone and save them from all the troubles I had. I needed 4 chair seats fabric cover change and 1 area carpet cleaning when I went to this place. I ask the owner what he thinks chairs are needed. He check the seats, told me that only new fabric is needed and recommended one ,which I liked. So, for 4 chair seat fabric change and 1 area carpet cleaning needed, I was charged $520 cash only, paid in advance. I was told that chair seats will be ready in a weak or 2 and carpet in a month. After approximately 10 days the owner called me to tell me that chair seats are ready and that they had to do something extra so if could pay them $25 more. Fact that on the bill over $500 they are asking for $25 was ridiculous to me and I refused. They should have called and tell me that prior to work. Owner got angry and told me that He is in business for 20-30 years or something and that people usually believe him when he does that .I didn't care, it was matter of principles. I got my 4 seats ( had to say that new fabric looked really nice). After a week or so I was told that carpet is ready for pickup. When I was getting the carpet , the owner told me that he sprayed the carpet with something because it had wooly smell ( carpet never had that smell even brand new) . As soon as open the carpet at home, it looked bad . Chemical smell was really strong, carpet did not looked clean and had some little grass pieces even small rocks in it . Smell was so bad that, I promise, you would get dizzy if you are next to it. After 2 days it smelled even worse. I called them and told them that carpet is not washed at all 100%, owners wife told me that she watched it being washed twice ( obvious lie, who says that) . I wanted 200$ back that I paid for cleaning, they refused to give it and said that I can bring the carpet back so that they can wash it again. When I asked why is was not washed properly first time , the owner said some ridiculous story about drying it with hair dryer or something like that. My conclusion is that they got mad over $25 that I refused to pay, so they just sprayed my carpet with some chemicals and maybe brushed it a little. Obviously I paid different company to clean it ,and I would never do any business with these people. So if you have patience to deal with them, they might even do a good job .but expect paying in cash only, in advance, potential additional charges and of course no refunds no matter what. read more

This family-run establishment provided a wonderful experience! I needed to repair a hand-crafted table that was a birthday present, and few furniture places in the area wanted to take it on. Jad and his associates not only worked with me to restore this broken table, but they took the time to explain how the table would be repaired and asked if I had any questions about the process. They offered a traditional form of customer service in an era of slickness and speed. Nice, friendly, and considerate. If I ever need anything else repaired, I will go to them. I received a return call from a woman who worked there. I tried to get a range of what it would cost to upholster a 78" leather sleeper sofa from American Leather. The lady insisted that we drive up from Annapolis to their shop in Alexandria She said I needed to bring a cushion, so they could give and estimate. I scheduled for an 11:30 appointment for today, February 26, 2022. We arrived about 11:15. We approached the lady to look at fabric while the owner had another couple at his table in the other room. While looking at fabric, I could hear the owner discussing about how strange it was to hear the titles of married gay couples. He labored on and chuckled as he spoke about what appeared to be a new reality that he had yet to come to grips with. I was a bit disconcerted by his comments, but I continued to help my wife review fabrics. I didn't think that was an appropriate conversation in a shop open to the public. I could only imagine how awkward that same conversation would've sounded had I been gay. At 11:40 he finished with the other couple, and came out front where we where waiting. While we were looking at fabrics another gentleman with an ottoman came in. The owner didn't ask us to sit down in the back as the other customer, but continued to tell us about having the leather renewed. We did not want it renewed; we came to have fabric reupholstered. We shared our fabric choice, and he gave us the total price of the fabric and labor cost but could not provide a more accurate estimate without physically seeing the couch. Keep in mind, we drove 45 minutes to get an estimate. Before we where finished with our questions or resolved what our next steps would be, he. asked the other gentleman to sit in the office. We were shocked and asked the lady why we were cutoff and the gentleman with the ottoman, who had an appointment after me, was allowed to sit down in the office. I told the lady we were taken aback as to why we were not asked to sit down like other customers. He then apprised us that we would have to bring the sofa in to get an accurate estimate. I said that would have been good to know before we travelled all the way here. At that point, he began raising his voice about how would he know to tell me that. I would think that his many years in the business would allow him to know that would be a good thing to tell customers. The owner was noticeably rude. He told us it was his shop, and he did not care to do business with us. That was obvious the moment he saw me and my wife. By the way, I'm a retired military officer, entrepreneur and college professor who happens to be Black. I would be very weary of this shop. When I got home and reviewed the couch I called him to let him know his plan wouldn't work. Instead of me coming back in to show him what needed to be fixed, he came offered to come to my house for free to personally look at what needed to be done for the repair. Artist in our midst - we have had the luck of finding A & J to refurbish family heirlooms during the past few years - these pieces have come home better than new. First they repaired the rush seat in a square occasional chair several years ago. Next, they tightened up and secured a small drop leaf table with inlay and found (and reconstructed) a hidden drawer -- masterful. Such a luxury in this 'disposable world' to find true artisans able to share their talents and bring back memories for those fortunate enough to find them. read more

I went to A & Jad's showroom in order to have patio furniture cushions recovered as well as a recliner recovered. The owner (Eric) was not there and I was told to return the following day for an estimate. The next morning I received an irate message from the owner telling me that I had missed my appointment and that he was going to throw away my cushions. I promptly called back and mentioned that I did not have a specified time to arrive, and to please not throw away my cushions. I arrived 30 minutes later to pick up the cushions and one of his employees had to fish them out of the dumpster. I would NEVER recommend this business and will happily take my business elsewhere. read more

Our needs were rather simple for their level of expertise - we needed to get the table to open up correctly and get the additional panel to line up with the rest of the table. They came, they conquered, and then showed us how to make everything work smoothly in the future for ourselves! Jad complimented the table (which I thought was fairly cheap but is apparently quality wood), and pointed out some pieces that could require some additional work in the future BUT told us exactly how to do it ourselves. I agree with Meredith (previous reviewer) in that you can't be easily offended, though I didn't find anything he said offensive whatsoever. He has a tiny bit of a typical craftsman's rough edge, but he was kind and funny and told a couple of good stories! It's a wife-and-husband team that runs this business, and his wife was pleasantly communicative on the phone before the appointment. Jad came to our home (thankfully) on a Saturday morning (even better!) and we certainly got our inspection fee's worth! I highly recommend them for any furniture job, big or small! read more

I took my tattered couch cushion into A & Jad's to have it reupholstered. Being that this was the first time I was getting anything reupholstered I wasn't sure what I was getting into, but Jad, his wife and their employee, Henry, were so kind, informative, and helpful. Jad walked me through the process of reupholstering the cushion and even explained why my old cushion had fallen apart. I felt very reassured that he would do a great job. His wife helped me pick out the perfect fabric (since I wasn't getting the entire couch reupholstered I needed something that would match), she was so patient and helpful. Once I picked a fabric, and they started working on the cushion, I expected it to be done in 10-15 days but they returned the cushion in less than a week. I am so happy with the work they did! My couch honestly looks better than when I bought it. Jad walked me through cleaning and care instructions and even told me that I can bring it back to him to shampoo. Just an overall amazing job! I posted the two picture of before and after of my two chairs! The job was fast and great! I thought it would take 10-14 days and only took about 5 days. The prices weren't too bad either ... $45 each for cleaning. I wanted to invest in an upholstery store that would do the best job, and that was here! The owner even educated me for about 20 minutes on how to pick out good and expensive furniture at liquidation sales and thrift stores. He was very educational and funny too! Thanks so much!!!! Jad's did a great job explaining the history of the furniture and what was needed to reupholster them correctly. My grandmother's Windsor style chair with rush seat was totally shot when I inherited it in 2004. I waited until I found the right place to fix it. The entire staff at A & Jads could not have been more friendly. My 90 year old chair gets another 90 years of life because of their close attention to detail and care for a family treasure. Took my oriental rug there for cleaning. They made it very clear to me that they were not affiliated with Hadeed on Duke Street. And that I should never take my rugs to Hadeed because they have to fix all of Hadeed's mistakes. So when I picked up my rug, which supposedly Jad cleaned, it had a Hadeed tag attached to it. They either clean rugs or they don't; but don't lie about who does the work. read more
