I have ordered several cakes from here and I was never disappointed. I traveled across town just for these desserts

I love this place. The cakes are baked to perfection and the tea cakes I go by to pick up a dozen every week. The ladies working the front area are pleasant and inviting. My only complaint is that if you're going to buy you some of those tea cakes you'd better get there early. At least 10% of the time when I go by the regular tea cakes are sold out. The best part of the tea cakes when you eat them is that they are the only ones that are good enough to remind me of my grandmother's tea cakes. They are fresh, tasty, delicious and soft. read more

I have been trying to make it to this place for a while and I finally got over here. This black owned business is known for being one of a few places in Houston that sells Teacakes. They also sell cakes by the slice and you can place orders for whole cakes. And if you are last minute, you can always call and see what they have available. I came on a Thursday morning. (Yes random, but you have to do what you have to do because Saturday morning is chaotic). I ordered a box of tea cakes which is 12 for about $16 of the regular. And a package of the lemon tea cakes for about $4. And a slick of 7up cake which was an impulse buy, 7up cake! Oh my gosh! It was still warm from coming out the oven. Listen. I --- yes. A family member of mine got a birthday cake from this establishment and it was completely delicious. It was an 8 inch cake with pineapple filling and butter cream. The cake was very moist and delectable. It was only $15 at that. They were so nice when we picked up the cake and they wished her happy birthday. It's hard finding a place that sells Tea Cakes but this place makes them just like my grandmother. They are soft, and not too sweet. I can never stop at just one. Thankfully I live four hours or I would be tempted to get them on a weekly basis. The only thing I don't like is the price increase. I use to pay $9.00 a dozen but today when I picked up three dozen, the price came to $42.00. I haven't purchased them in over a year. It will probably be another year before I purchase them again. LOL I have tried a few of their cakes and I have never been disappointed. You can also purchase their mini pecan, sweet potato pies or their cake by the slice. FYI- They are closed on Sundays and Mondays. Saturdays are super busy so try to get their first thing in the morning. read more

I was EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED with the 2 cakes I purchased Saturday. I ordered 2 6' Butter with pineapple filling. Normally $10 but went up extra $5. I wasn't tripping cause the cakes are/were good. BOTH of my cakes tasted dry and old...it lacked pineapple filling. Both cakes had missing spaces where their was NO FILLING AT ALL. My last cake had semi chucks of pineapple, it was soft and melt in your mouth soft! One cake was for me and the other was for my Mom since she loved A&K..she was confused too on why the cakes weren't good like they use to...MIND YOU..WE BEEN CUSTOMERS SINCE 2016 so we know what A & K could do. Alright, my mom has gotten a few cakes from here (pound cake). Since it was mothers day, i decided to try something new from A&K. That was a mistake. I bought this cobbler frozen Saturday by recommendation from A&K. Here we are Sunday afternoon and it's cooked at 350 until bubbling and golden brown on top. Upon first inspection, I noticed how runny the juices were. Not thick at all smh. It wasn't very sweet and everyone agrees, it seemed to be missing a lot. Cinnamon, vanilla, and sugar. Waaaaay too many peaches. Almost like they just dumped canned peaches along with the juice into the cobbler. We were really looking forward to some fantastic peach cobbler and we were all disappointed. $50 peach cobbler is very overpriced. The 3 stars are for the Tea Cakes I had a few weeks ago. Horrible Experience. My wedding cake looked nothing like we agreed upon. Our grooms cake looked like it was decorated by a 10 year old. If you are unable to design a cake like a customer wants, then don't do it. To make matters worse, they dropped off the cake at our venue and just left. They didn't speak to anyone. I was so embarrassed by the cake that we didn't even allow the guests to see them and we didn't even do the cake cutting. The worst part of my day was the cake. So embarrassing. I'm sure they can make a decent cake for a small family gathering or your cousin's backyard barbecue, but I would not trust them to make a cake for an event as important as a wedding. Tip: hire a competent decorator & do what the customer asks, not your own version of it. If you can't do that then ask them to take their business elsewhere. read more

My mother has been ordering her cakes and pies from A&K bakery for over 20 or more years. This was because she couldn't make them as she was use to because of her health. Even after her passing, we continued to order and pickup our baked goods for every holiday event. Moist, delicious German Chocolate Cake and the various cakes we craved every year. I've driven from Louisiana to pickup for my family without a second thought as to what was in those boxes. Imagine our disappointment to purchase cakes that were dry and in no way comparable to what we were used to. It hurt my heart not to be able to enjoy desserts or share to others due to our bragging which we felt entitled to. The icing on the GC didn't look like what we were used. The red velvet? No Wow factor of any kind. I've never thrown or wasted GC cake...Ever! 3/1/2017 This is truly a hidden gem. Homemade cakes, pies, cupcakes, teacakes and muffins. The prices are amazing as well. Today I picked up my cake order for my mom's birthday.The only negative is that I scheduled a time to pick up my cake and from past experiences they are NEVER on time having your order ready so I was late on purpose.Still had to wait about 15 minutes. As I was waiting another patron ordered a slice of German chocolate cake and pound cake muffin. It sounded so good I ordered the same. The pound cake muffin did not make it out the door and the German chocolate cake was very light and taste great as well. Now do not expect anything fancy because the space is very tight(I mean family reunion tight) so this is a pick up and go kind of place and I would suggest calling in your order. They have done many birthday, bridal showers and graduation cakes for our family. We drive 30+miles to get cakes from A & K...so worth the drive. read more

I placed an order 1 week in advance and called two days before picking up my order just to re-confirm that it'd be ready on the date/time that I needed. Well, when I go to pick up the order, it's not ready. Everyone who placed and order on that day was turned away because they were running behind. Then, I go back 3 hours later and they started selling some of my order to others!. These people lack professionalism, character, customer service and any qualities a respectable business would have.
