Been coming to this place since I was a kid and it's still great. It doesn't look like much inside but it smells like heavenly roasted nuts. Despite a line you'll get in and out pretty quick. They just have roasted nuts, seasoned nuts, and candies nuts mostly. I get creole peanuts or salted pecan halves, but you can't go wrong. read more

I stumbled upon this while walking in downtown Mobile and it was such a great find. It's been around since 1947 and they still roast nuts using a very old machine. The nuts were tasty and they also have a variety of candies as well. It's a great little historic shop and it's definitely a place you should visit! read more

If you are walking in downtown Mobile I think you should pop in and check out the Peanut Shop. The good: lots of choices of Candies and snacks. Fried Nuts. The Meh: Many of the items in the store are not made in store and are just prepackaged stuff. Items add up fast and you can drop $20 in a heartbeat. I suggest the fried Pumpkin seed and Peanuts. They also had homemade cashew turtles that were off the chain good. I suggest asking what is made in house and grabbing those items. read more

This place has been here for so many years, and still attracts a crowd daily. The roasting machines are so old I have no idea how they keep them running but I'm glad they do. We stop in on every trip downtown and get a pound or two of the awesome nuts or candy. It's all good, I love the Spanish peanuts and my wife gets the pecans. Always service with a smile. Went in for the first time , loved everything about the shop, owner was such a sweetheart. We got the turtles and they were delicious! Unfortunately the other candies we got i believe had cream filling, tasted insanely too accurate to vomit. Im not sure what was up with that taste, thought my tastebuds might been off, but my boyfriend tried one as well, and instantly said the same thing! Vomit. This place gives me so much joy and a sense of nostalgia. It's hard to believe I have been visiting this place for nearly 25 years and I hope for many more experiences to come. This nut shop is Hugely expensive, but has lasted in the same location for 75 years. Not only does it offer various plain nuts, it has salted, roasted nuts and nuts covered with a multitude of sweet glazes and sauces. Also there are specialty candies of myriad flavors. The scent of roasted nuts assaults your senses a1/2 block away and compels you to enter the shop. Once you enter, It's all over. You WILL buy....something. This is a great reminder of the days of old-fashioned candy shops and is a Must-see on a visit to downtown Mobile. read more

This old fashion candy shop which probably hasn't changed much over the decades it's been here filled me, and I can imagine so many others who visit, with lots of nostalgia! This tiny, long shop in the heart of downtown Mobile sells all sorts of candy and chocolates, a few gift items and other fun treats like those Hot Mama pickles my husband always buys me. What we came for, and what I dare you to walk by and not purchase is the fresh roasted peanuts that pop off of a 100 year old roaster!! That smell is insane and absolutely irresistible! They were hands down THEE most delicious hot, fresh peanuts I have ever had! They sell small and large bags. Don't even question it...go big! They will all disappear! We all couldn't get enough! I mean, so good!!! The kiddos also grabbed some candy which was weighed per pound on an old fashion scale by the kind lady behind the counter. Maybe I went at a bad time as I ordered some milk chocolate almonds and got some cashew turtles but the almonds seemed old as they didn't have a crunchy texture. The cashew turtles were a little on the salty side. I didn't like how you had to order things in at least a 1/4 lb when you don't know how they are going to be. Maybe I'll try again at another time. This peanut shop is all taste and all fat. It would be the good kind of fat if you didn't take home a pound of everything. It's an appropriately tiny shop with stacks of pecans on top of cashews and peanuts. Somewhere in-between all of this, there's a chocolate flavor of everything. Behind the cashier himself is all sorts of candies on the wall including tootsie pops. Walk further in and there's a popcorn machine with actual fresh popcorn in it. To your right is a boiling peanut machine releasing the sinful smell of delicious peanuts. To your left is another door that looks closed off but it is meant for you to go in and explore. The room contains a collection of old souvenirs local to the Mobile and Alabama area. It's a little dusty in there and resembles more of an antique collection. This is an exciting little shop to explore with not much room to wander. Every inch of this store is utilized to maximum efficiency. They don't have peanut butter here which was what I was looking for but the smell was more than a reward in itself. read more

Nothing special here. I read so many reviews and saw stuff on the internet that I thought we have to check this place out. We literally walked in look for a couple seconds and left. Sort of disappointed we drove way out of the way just for this. So we did find some good restaurants right around the corner so it ended up being worth it by luck. read more

I must have forgotten what good candy tastes like because this shop was a revelation. It's a good thing I don't live near here because I would weigh 300lbs. This shop is such a gem. It's been here for nearly 9 decades, so you know it's gotta be something special. But don't expect it to be all shiny and new because the beauty in this place is that it is unchanged and perfect. My husband and I tried many of their candies: we got the haystacks (also available in sugar-free and, yes, so amazing), bridge mix, cookies and cream brickle, white-chocolate peanut clusters (made my knees buckle), chocolate turtles, candy corn, and a praline. I just this moment realized we should have tried the roasted peanuts because that is surely what made the white-chocolate peanut clusters so incredible--they actually tasted like super-rich creamy peanut butter wrapped in decadent white chocolate. OMG! Now I have to go back and buy the roasted peanuts before I leave town. And maybe more white chocolate peanut clusters for the road...and haystacks. read more

Walking in here makes me feel like a kid in a candy store. I guess it brings out my inner child. We stop in here every time we walk around downtown Mobile. How could we not, with that roasting peanut smell rolling down the street? They have way more than just peanuts, like chocolate covered everything! My favorites are the turtles. My hubby's favorite is the toffee candy. Our boys just love it all, especially the chocolate covered raisins and chocolate covered pretzels. My daddy would love the orange slices. I love the nostalgic feeling I get when I see the Mr Peanut costume displayed in the back and the near ancient peanut roaster and scales that are still in use today. Those things make me wonder what it would have been like walking in the Peanut Shop back in its heyday, and realizing that I just did. This is my favorite place to visit in Mobile! One of my fondest memories is walking downtown, with the smell of fresh roasted peanuts pulling me into the A&M Peanut Shop. You'll be greeted by Debbie, and she sends you off to Bienville Square with a bag of hot, roasted peanuts. The Peanut Shop has so many other things too - cashews, pecans, candy, and my absolute favorite, the creole peanuts. While you wait to get your snacks, you'll be drawn to the antique roaster, the Mr. Peanut collection, old newspaper clippings, and the ever-festive display window decor.
