I found out about this place from my colleagues who have been ordering from here for ages. One day recently, during the heatwave of course, we were deliberating on what to order for lunch when it became known to said colleagues that I had never eaten here and then the decision was made. They have a bunch of shit but I got a sandwich with breaded eggplant, broccoli rabe, mozz, and sundried tomatoes. "Where the fuck are you going?" I asked when they both got up and headed for the door. "We're going to take a walk and pick up our order, do you want to come?". I started to type "something possessed me to join them" but I know exactly what it was and it was the opportunity for gossip. However, within about 5 minutes it became clear this was an ERROR as walking outside was like walking in the inside of a dog's mouth. When we finally made it and we were greeted by the gush of cool air conditioned air, it felt like I had literally stepped out of a swimming pool. The queue at the check out was long but the wait gave us an opportunity to eye all of the delicious looking food items behind the counter including pastries and Italian classics like eggplant parm and regular parm. I also caught a glimpse of some fresh mozz. We arrived to the check out and I was relieved that our order was ready. That relief was short lived because this meant we would have to venture back. I was probably cursing under my breath in my wet clothing up until when I unwrapped my sandwich. What a fucking thing of beauty. Had the pleasure of walking into a festival today in mount kisco and the aroma lured me to this table. I smelled the food through the air and I found it. I walked up and there I saw the grill going with the steak on it and peppers and I knew I had to have one and I did. It was so darn good . The service was wonderful. An absolute hidden gem, and as much as I'd like to keep it that way they deserve all the accolades they get. So here goes. First, they are an actual market with an interesting selection of grocery items (pasta, canned and jarred Italian specialties). But the real standout is their prepared food. House roast beef? Outstanding. House turkey breast? Outstanding. Tuna salad? (Really) outstanding. But the sandwich that haunts my dreams is The Piazza - it sounds simple enough: juicy, tender roasted pork, fresh mozzarella & broccoli rabe. But when it comes together it hits all the right notes. This shop single handedly got me through my pregnancy (it was right by my OB office). They have a huge selection of fresh foods and food to order. It was very deceptive, and as I lifted the lettuce, each quarter of the container held a different type of vegetable. There were carrots, peppers, red onion, black olives, cucumbers etc. the Italian vinaigrette was just perfect on top. I loved it! Very fresh and just delicious. I also got chicken salad to go that had chopped up scallions and veggies in it. That also was perfect chicken salad, not overly mayonnaised. I also tried a small order of string beans with garlic. That was delicious. This deli is amazing. Everything is excellent. I'm very impressed with the freshness and replacement of items every two hours. One of my favorite spots! During Covid, I got 75% of my meals here. Now, it's more like 50%. The salad guy is an artist and the steak practically grills itself. The products say one price but then when they ring you up they charge you 4% more per item for using a credit card. The typical store pays between 1.3% to 3.5% ... with most stores falling in 2 to 2.5% range. THEY ARE NO DOUBT MARKING UP THE CREDIT CARD PROCESSING CHARGE TO THE CONSUMER. HORRIBLE !!!!! In my opinion this practice is that of a very poor business person. NOT ONLY IS THIS AN ILLEGAL BUSINESS PRACTICE IN NY STATE but it's also a very poor poor way to bill a customer. "GENERAL BUSINESS LAW §518: NY LAW RELATED TO CREDIT AND DEBIT CARD SURCHARGES: Businesses are not allowed to advertise a price and add a surcharge at the point of sale when a consumer elects to pay with a credit card. " HORRIBLE BUSINESS PEOPLE. I will not be back ... and I would not advise anyone to patronize a store with such horrid business practices. NY STATE LAW states a surcharge using a credit card is illegal ..... a business owner can be shady and list it as a "convenience card" as a loop hall to stated law. Business owner's response does not address the facts and does not address that he's marking up a credit card charge to the consumer above what he is charged. Illegal. BS owner and response. If a cost of business operation goes up make a set price increase to your marked products so that the price tag is correct. Went there tonight it was 4:58 PM and the doors were locked. They're supposed to close at 6:30 PM. There were workers in there, but they ignored the customers knocking on the door and even gave a rude wave as if to say, go away. So after three minutes, they finally come over and just put a note on the door that says we are closed. What an amazing experience I had today talking with Joe the owner. I will be preparing a classic Italian Sunday dinner and he could not have been more helpful! I feel as if he let me in on generations of family recipes for meatballs and gravy. He truly went above and beyond in making sure I was prepared for my very important Mothers Day dinner. I went in today for the first time as my husband always tells me how good it is. The owner introduced himself to me, welcomed me in and all the staff were friendly and truly enjoyed working together. It has been a year since I have come here . I come because they have these hot stuffed peppers that I like to serve on christmas. Last year I came here to place a big order and they had no interest they were too busy . Really? This time I went in no one in the place to pick up a few jars of these Peppers that I can't find anywhere else. Decided I would get some pre-made lasagna for my mother . Five people working in there not a single person could give two craps. Three people talking one guy's eating salami or something . This place is way over-priced for what you get in return. We had the chance to try almost everything in here. The quality of cooking here is very poor. The dishes are obviously Italian, but flavors are not authentic for what you pay. We will break it down lime this: Any good steak / ribeye steak has what is called Longissimus Dorsi which is also known as an eye. This is the delicousness of any steak. That marbling you are looking for. For the price, quality totally sucks The sandwiches are ok, the quality of cold- cuts are not the greatest Italian-wise speaking. Again, for the price you should be getting the best. The hot foods and the cuts of meat, chicken or veal used in these dishes are poor. The meat is not tender. The chicken had cartilage in it. The veal almost tasted like center-cut pork and common ruse even restuaranta use to make that little bit of extra money. The cheeses used are mediocre quailty when compared to high-end. For example: the Ambrosi cheese they sell imported from Italy is supposed to be aged 22 months. They are lucy its aged for 2 months. You most products coming out of Italy are not very good. They lie about the ageing process all the time in Italy to maximize their profits. Many industries are like this in Italy. Just like the proscuitto. The Hard Salamis are twice as exoenaive as the ones you get in the Bronx off of Arthur Avenue and evem these arent even that great. The ravioli sold here totally stunk. The owner thinks its the best thing ever, but after our panel of 5 tried it we all had agreed it wasnt very good. It fell apart while cooking it and the stuffing was skimmy and poor quality. I taste testers were the following: A doctor A lawyer who eats out all of the time A blue collar electrical line men A chef A teacher All taste testers are from the other side or Italian American. The regions the come from are. Naples Sicily Bologna/Trento Abruzzi Calabria The salads seemed to be ok. Not much to a salad though. Used a nice amount of cold-cuts. The dry goods like pasta were pretty good, at least the ones cut with a bronze die cut, but again these were also very expensive. The drinks are over priced. All in all overall: this place is nothing special. Sandwiches are soso but "where's the beef!" We will go back to try some more items. read more
