On Labor Day weekend, my car broke down right in front of this auto repair shop which was technically closed for the holiday. Coincidentally, (and thank god!) Waldek, the owner, was doing some paperwork inside. Desperately, I asked if he can help. Even though he was off for the day, he kindly offered his assistance and went above and beyond for me. He drove in the rain to pick up the part that my car needed as I waited in his office. He took three hours out of his own time to fix my car and put my safely back on the route to NYC. If I could give them a 0 I would. I was driving from Queens to Poughkeepsie for my wedding dress fitting at a small boutique. I had been driving for 2 hours at this point. I had my 8 year old daughter with me and I felt like there was something wrong with my car so I pulled off the highway and just so happen to be down the road from A & W. I had a flat tire so I rolled down to A & W and I thought how lucky it's open and I'll have help. I arrived at the shop around 2pm and my car was the only car left for the 1 guy there to fix. My appointment at the wedding shop was at 4pm and I had another hour to drive. I ended up waiting at A&W for over 2 hours. I called the Wedding shop and they said they'd give me a little bit of time to get there but they'd be closing at 5. So after 2 hours of waiting patiently for a flat tire to be fixed the mechanic comes into the room to ring me up and proceeds to take 20 minutes to type an invoice. I came so far and the shop was saying they'd wait till 530 for me, I asked VERY NICELY mind you "sir I have an appointment that I really don't want to miss and I'm so late can I pay now?" When I tell you this man was beyond rude that does not even begin to cover it. He tells me, " I didn't have to help you I could be home right now" he continued to make really nasty rude comments and I still remained polite and told him sir I'm not being rude to you do me a favor and don't talk to me that way. I have Lupus and stress causes me major flare ups. What should have been a happy day trying on my dress turned into a nightmare and this man made it beyond worse. I've never in my life experienced someone treat a customer so badly. All because they asked if they could pay after 2+ hours of waiting for something that would take any skilled mechanic an hour to fix MAX. Needless to say I left the shop crying, was rashes out and shaking from my lupus and myself nor my family who lives near his shop will EVER be using this places services. read more

A & W is a great place to take a Suburu, and perhaps other brands as well. I know they are experts in Suburu repair, reasonably priced and very ethical. I have taken my Forester there many times and received excellent diagnostics and service. On at least two occasions, when the problem was simple, they did not charge me anything for the service. Waldek, the proprietor (it is a real family business, with wife an daughter involved as well as other mechanics) is a genius at diagnostics and enjoys explaining all the details and reasons why a certain problem has occurred and what they had to do to fix it. It is always an education, when I have something done there. I always trust them to know more than even the local Suburu dealers, and have never had a problem they didn't take care of quickly and professionally. read more

Bad business, not recommended. I purchased a low mileage (63K) used Subaru for $8500 from this outfit - After 6K - $500.00 repair for an issue that was "the manufacturer's fault". Contest the bill? Waldek has a tantrum and insults me "this isn't a non profit". His wife snickers at my dis satisfaction. After 10K? - $700.00 repair (fixed elsewhere) for a completely shot power steering mechanism. For a company that has worked on Subaru's as they claim all they did was play price game. I inquired about a quote to repair my Subaru he stated it will be anywhere from $2500-$3500. they stated that they will call with the actual pricing on Saturday never received a call. Monday they quote was not ready Tuesday the story changed entirely. price jumped up to almost 7k with labor being about $2700 alone. I called and requested for a quote to be sent to me and he stated that I was rude and he didn't want to work with me because I wanted a detail breakdown in writing. I advised him that it is not professional to not provide a break down quote if you are requesting 7k I will like to know where the money is being allocated. he was not happy and did not wish to speak to me any further. This place are thieves!!!! if you look like you can be taken advantage they jump all over it. I would rather give them negative stars if the option was available. read more

Have never had my car repaired here, but heard very good things from subaru owners. Unfortunately, whoever answered the phone was so rude, I would never consider taking my car here. I explained the problem I was having and asked what they could do for me and he accused me of "using" him to get free information, told me I talked too much and suggested that if I start paying him his labor rate he would talk for hours. I found these guys after having a real problem getting an axle issue addressed by my normal mechanic. My normal guy is as honest as they come, but he was having an issue with clicking in the front end after axle replacements. I took my Forester to these guys and the owner knew what the problem was immediately, had it fixed quickly and at a really reasonable price, utilizing some of the parts that my mechanic had already used to try and resolve the issue.
