My wife and went into the A&W. We ate there 49 years ago on our honeymoon and thought it would be nice. We walked in and more than half of the tables had dirty dishes on them. Drive 40 mins to get here and sign in door says "closing at 8pm." As we walked in someone walking out said "Hope you're in the mood to wait at least 45 minutes." This was my first time ever visiting an A&W and it was everything I expected. This is a perfect restaurant for a small town where generations can reminisce about past experiences. The restaurant is large inside and can easily accommodate dinner group sizes. The menu options are straightforward. They have different variations of a burger and hot dog. I opted for the Papa Burger. The service was okay, the waitress kept telling me certain things weren't on the burger when the menu clearly stated what comes on the burger. Overall, the burger was good. I also tried a few bites of my husband's mushroom onion melt burger. That was really tasty as well. I would definitely visit again! read more

What's not to like? Classic A&W in a small town, complete with table service instead of ordering at a counter. You can also get take out or order at the drive up carhop style area. We stopped in on a Friday night and were promptly greeted and sat. Our server took our orders and food was out in under 10 minutes. I got the olive burger and cheese curds. The olives were a super generous portion which I loved. Cheese curds and ranch were indulgent and tasty. Plus a huge icy mug of my favorite, diet root beer! Cute and very retro with the drive in / eat in your car options. We decided to eat in. Walking in the door there is a huge display of the different kids meal / root beer mugs they had once given / sold. Very cool. You order at a little counter and they call your name to come pick it up or maybe they brought it out... can't remember. The girls working were polite and happily answered our questions. I really don't have many negative things to say about this restaurant. The staff has been incredibly nice the numerous amounts of times my partner and I went and the food is always on point. The staff will often forget certain items in our order, but it's just a simple human error and they always fix it with no issues. Cruisin' back to the good ol' days each time I come here. Even though A&W Rootbeer is a restaurant chain, this location here in Frankfort is very unique and one of a kind. From the outside drive up to their jukebox located inside, this business takes you back to the 50s and 60s. You really can't go wrong with their menu. They serve classic diner foods, such as burgers and sandwiches. I always get their grilled cheese + fries. They always serve good portions + reasonable prices. Even if you aren't that hungry or don't drink soda, you still HAVE to get their rootbeer in an ice cold mug. If you have a sweet tooth like me, make it a rootbeer float. You won't be disappointed! However, this particular A&W is an exception. This is not your typical fast-food joint that you see attached to a Long John Silvers or buried in a food court. This is a small-town diner that reminds me of the A&W restaurants of yesterday; one where you can pull up and eat in your car, or come in and take over a booth. The food is good. They're not reinventing the wheel. Burgers, fries, sodas, etc. Nothing new, but the quality is good. Service is good. Prices are good. This place was a true treat in every way! The atmosphere was pure nostalgia, the experience was great. First of all, you could choose to park and go in to sit down and eat, or you could park in the 'drive-up' side and they would bring your food to your car, like the good old days. We chose to get the food in our car and it was wonderful. The food cane out quickly and was fresh and hot. I had the grilled chicken breast sandwich and it was perfectly cooked and juicy, not dried out. I had cheese curds as a side instead of fries. I must say that being a lover of food, aka a 'foodie', these were the best I've ever had. First, they were battered and not breaded. The batter tasted like a buttermilk recipe. They were a light batter, not heavy. They had just the right crunch and the curds were hot and melty: definitely in the 'wow' zone. My wife had the fish sandwich and she said it was good. She also had the onion rings, which were battered, not breaded and the onions were not slimy and yucky, they were fresh, hot and had a good crunch to them. The root beer is what they are famous for and they did live up to their reputation and then some. It tastes very different and much better than the same brand canned or in a 2 liter bottle that you can boot in the store. read more
