If I could give no stars or a negative number, I would. We used A-Better Appliance once before & had great service, so it made sense to use them again when our dishwasher needed a quick repair. ALL we needed was to have the handle replaced - nothing mechanical!!!!! November 18, 2022 we had Charles out to give us a price. We paid $181.58 for the part. We expected a part delay, since we were in the middle of the covid stupidity with all shipping delays, etc. - OK, a couple of weeks wouldn't be too bad..... Thanksgiving came & went, so did Christmas & New Year. By Valentine's day, we were calling about the status. Then St. Patty's Day & Easter......nothing. We've been waiting & waiting. My husband called and called & FINALLY spoke to Charles (Cell phone # is 832-306-4001). First, he told him he was still waiting on the part. Then the next story was 'well, you haven't paid me' (Bullshit - have a copy of the check that he CASHED on the same day it was written!) Then, it was 'his wife died & he's had a hard time with the paperwork, etc.' All this to say, 9 months later & we still don't have the part or the repair. This company is a fraud. In September 2022 I hired them to repair a Viking vent hood fan. Their technician diagnosed it as a bad motor which cost $1200. They required me to pay $800 up front as a down payment. 9 months later they've never repaired my appliance and quit taking my calls. I tried tracking them down in person and every address I could find online led me on a wild goose chase. I hired a different service to come out and they said the motor is fine, it's the switch which costs $175. Consumers beware...these guys will rip you off! I wish my husband had checked the reviews for this company before deciding to use them for our washing machine repair. They sent a repairman on 8/28/2021 who said he needed to order parts, and they charged me almost $300 up front for the parts and repairs. The parts took over a month to arrive and they never called to give me any update about status. When they finally came to fix the machine, they installed the parts but didn't test whether it worked or not. I called them time and time again to try and get someone to come back. Finally someone did in early November, but still they left without testing the machine. Now they won't return my calls at all, I'm out the money and still don't have my washing machine fixed. In December 2018, after reviewing several businesses, I called A-Better appliance to ask them to repair my Whirlpool refrigerator. They came highly recommended on next door and had received some accolades from the local chamber of commerce. The refrigerator was freezing condensation in the back at the vents causing huge chunks of ice and was not maintaining a safe temperature On December 14, 2018, the technician (CJ#3) came out, said the main control board was out. He said the part cost $417.98 and he felt bad about, because it was around Christmas time and he said I would need to pay 1/2 to order it and 1/2 at installation. So I paid the 1/2 that day. Weeks went by, holidays, etc, didn't hear anything I finally called around the 3rd week of January, that I had not been called about the part coming in. CJ #3 came out on January 23rd and replaced the part. I know refrigerators need 24-48 hours to get "settled" but on Saturday, I noticed the ice forming in the back of the refrigerator. Well, I hoped it would "fix itself" but, unfortunately by Monday it was definitely forming a layer of ice and condensation/frost over the vents, so $400 later my problem is still not fixed. I texted the technician the pictures on Monday 1/28, no response, I thought maybe he didn't work there anymore, phone was dead, etc. So I called the business main number on 1/29, I was told they would have the tech call. No call back that day. Called on 1/30 @ 2:46 went to voicemail left a message. 1/31 called again said they would send someone out between 10-12 the next day and they did. CJ said he was sorry had some personal issues, etc. Feel free to text him. I said I had, but he said he didn't receive them, regardless, things happen, so I gave him the benefit of the doubt. So he said the part was defective, they would need to replace it and would let me know when the new one arrived, shouldn't take more than a few days. A month later on 2/25, I texted the tech, to inquire about the part. Per his text, "shows Friday the 1st arrival if it comes in earlier enough we will be out that same day otherwise Saturday" He never says to empty my refrigerator, let the ice thaw, etc. But I let that go, hoping for the best. March 5th, I text following up, since I got no follow up, no one came and no one called, no one texted. No response to my text on the 5th, I tried again on the March 11th, no response. Finally, on March 13th I called the main office, lady that answered, said yes, I remember you, seemed to genuinely be concerned, said she would speak to her boss and someone would call me the next morning. Guess what, no one called back! So, I'm giving up, but here's the kicker, they are members of the BBB and I filed a complaint with them and they responded within a day that the "business is unreachable or not longer in business". Interesting, I just called and the same lady that has been answering took the call. Their website is still up. A Better Appliance Repair - This is my refrigerator 2 days after the "defective replacement" part - Appliances & Repair Near Me

After fighting with them for about 6 to 7 months on getting my freezer fix that I already paid them to do and after a month of fighting to get my money back. Charles finally calls me to agree to refund me my money back for not fixing my freezer. I paid him $239.00 to fix my freezer and at first he want to refund me back only a $141.00 cause he wanted to charge me for the service call and a restock fee for the part that he claims finally came in after telling me for months that the part will be in in 5 to 7 days. I stated I don't think I should pay for the restock fee on the part after I have told him a month ago that I don't need the part anymore. Plus I found out that part was not the problem with my freezer. We agreed on paying for the service call and he will take the lost on the restock fee for the part. So finally after months of calling and no return calls Charles finally decided to make it right and refund my money back to me. The refund amount was $184.00. As far as using him in the future I seriously don't think I will. read more

Update to the Kenmore Elite refrigerator saga: We decided that it was worth a $99 service call to have Sears come and officially diagnose the problem. I also went online to "Just Answer" and paid $45 for an appliance repair expert to give a diagnosis. He said "It's definitely a freon leak somewhere", which made sense. Sears came and immediately diagnosed (with a sniffer) a freon leak in the line near the "just replaced for the 4th time" drier. That drier was replaced by the A-Better owner, Charles. Also, the two Sears techs here told us that the compressor we had was the ORIGINAL....not a new one!! They said it had the original factory welds. WOW....and we paid A-Better almost $800 for a new compressor!? Sears also found a second leak and both leaks were due to bad/sloppy welds from the last drier installation! And these were done by Charles, the owner. We have the weld areas they cut out and it's obvious how they could leak....VERY sloppy work. These Sears techs were must amazing in that they spent 4 hours fixing our refrigerator AND managed to get the work under the 5 year sealed system warranty!! They really felt bad they we had been "taken" by A-Better Appliance Repair. The moral of this story is: Hire the professionals, even though they are more expensive....it will save you a lot of money and heartache in the long run. And, we can't say enough good things about Sears Appliance Repair service and the technicians that have given us our refrigerator back. Yes, it now WORKS! read more

Gave him a $140 dollar deposit. We were told it would take 5 to 7 business days for the part to come in. Well one month plus still no part. Called and was told give an extra three days. Over 300 dollars of food spoiled. Asked for a refund because"PART" is still not in. I told them I wanted a refund of my money for service NEVER rendered. After a week of calling and speaking to Amy still no refund. Now they have stopped returning calls or text. Times are tuff and now is NOT the time to be GIVING money for service and no services rendered. NEVER EVER USE BETTER APPLIANCE REPAIR- They charged me $270 to replace a $5 part but the dryer never worked not even for a min. My mistake for not checking their work until a day later. I'm too trusting. I ended up buying all new parts for $145 and replaced them myself and now the dryer works great. Had to have my credit card company reverse the payment because Better Appliance would not fix it. read more

A-Better Appliance performed an inspection of our Kitchen Aide refrigerator on February 20,2019 and recommended a "board replacement". He requested a $400 deposit. We were told the part would take 7 days to arrive. 30 days passed when we contacted the office and were told Charles would get back to us. Another 7 days went by when Charles returned our call and set an appointment for the new part install. Charles arrived but after he attempted to replace the part we were told he had the wrong part and in addition another "board" was required now as well. We waited another 30 days when Charles returned and you guessed it, it was not the correct part. Charles did however advised us that a third board was also now required. In as much as Charles had our $400 we agreed to wait it out as Charles stated "he would make it right." As I write this it is now day 114 and Charles won't even return our calls. The BBB indicates A-Better Appliance has a pattern of this behavior and indicates "they have a failure to resolve and address complaints" We are now filing a Small Claims Petition against A-Better Appliance. read more

Fridge water dispenser would not stop dripping. Called A Better Appliance and Charles and John showed up on time the next day. Problem was diagnosed and John came back the next morning with needed part. He also cleaned out all the dirt and lint. The drip has now stopped. John was very polite and got the job done quickly. I HATE dealing with repairmen so much I usually just buy a new appliance. Thought I would give this company a chance and I am very glad I did. Will not hesitate to use this company again. DO NOT use this company. I would give them a negative star if I could. My experience is similar to the many others who have used Charles and ended up spending a lot of money with no results. We had Charles come out and look at our subZero KitchenAid refrigerator. He said we needed a new compressor and he could order a one and our refrigerator would work great. Like others have said, he asked that we pay 1/2 up front for him to order the parts and then the rest at completion. We also had him look at our spare refrigerator and deep freeze as they were both having problems too. It took SEVERAL weeks before the necessary parts for all our units came in. First he replaced some parts on the spare refrigerator and deep freeze. He told us to unplug the refrigerator for 24 hours, plug it back in and it would be fine. We did this, but the refrigerator never cooled down below where it was before. We called Charles back out and he fiddled with it, told us to buy a thermometer because the internal one was not reading correctly. Meanwhile, we still did not have the new compressor installed in our subZero unit. After several weeks, Charles came out with his son and installed the parts. The refrigerator worked for 1 week before it totally went out again. We called Charles again as this was now our 4th time to have to use an ice chest for our cold goods and told him the subZero was totally out. He came out the next day and said it just needed freon. He filled it up and it would not hold the pressure. Then he said that the freon line had been totally blown out! My response was "WHAT". He did not even check the freon lines before he told us that all we needed was a new compressor! $3000 into the venture now, he said let him think about what he could do to fix it and "make it right" for us. Yes, you guessed it....we never heard back from him until I sent 2 emails and made 2 phone calls. By this time, we were not about to let him touch anything else in our house! He has yet to make it right. He did not offer any money back on his incompetence! In my opinion he should be put out of business. read more

We called to have a squeaky dryer repaired. 2 months and $380 later the dryer is not only worse but the dryer is unusable. We have tried for the past 2 months to have Charles come out and repair the dryer or give us our money back. They will not return phone cause and have gone to the point of sending the call directly to voice mail. Of course the voice mail box is full, so you can no longer leave a message. This place is a absolute disaster .. I called October 4th to get someone to come look at my stove. Two burners were out and the oven was not working. Took 2 different techs and about a month and a half of my wife missing work EVERY THURSDAY so they could come work on it. Most of the time with them not showing up and having some excuse why they didn't show up JUST to get the oven working. For all my inconvenience's he said he would fix the burners and replace one of the burner caps for free ... Called Thursday to find out what the status was didn't even get a call back, called today and the part is on "back order" Paid $1200 and still have two burners out .. I wanted to say thank you again for your quick response to the problem I was having with my refrigerator. I called the office on Saturday and they were able to come out that day. I was losing food in my freezer and I can't afford to lose any food especially on a fixed income with children to feed. They were able to fix it right away for me. The technician that came out was friendly and knowledgeable. He explained what was wrong with it in ways I could understand. And it didn't cost me any extra money for coming out on Saturday. I called for service when the extra refrigerator/freezer we have in the garage seemed to stop cooling and freezing. Charles showed in the time frame promised and was able to access the problem. All is working great now! This is the third time we have used him in the past 2 years and have been very pleased both times. He has been honest when we needed repair on a washer and problems with ice maker in our kitchen refrigerator, when other repair companies were not so honest. I had 2 refrigerators that needed to be fixed (1 newer Samsung model where the ice dispenser was not working and an older Hotpoint model that overheated and shutdown but started working again) and called this place on May 13th. The owner was initially on time and very pleasant to speak with diagnosed the board in both fridges need to be replaced (which I am still doubtful is the problem). He said he would give me a deal at $550 to fix both. He had the part for the Hotpoint fridge and had to order the part for the Samsung which would take 3-5 business days so I agreed to let him do the job and paid him $250 for the first one. At that time I told him we were going to have a party on May 24th and would like the frige working and he reassured me the fridge would be fixed by then. A couple of days later I received a call from the owner indicating there was a manufacture back order on the Samsung part and it would take 7-10 business days (which technically would then still arrive a few days before our party) and at that point also reassured me he would have it done for me in time for our party and would update me as soon as he got the part. To keep this short, my fridge did not get fixed in time for the party. I had to call 10 times for an update on when my fridge would be fixed. I knew they had to order the part and didn't want them to be at loss if I decided to find someone else so tolerated the delay. The owner finally called me back and basically gave me the run around for the delay and was going to send someone today (24 days later) to get it fixed. Additionally, he offered to take $25 off the job for my frustration and inconvenience. I was terribly offended that all my time and frustration was only worth $25!!! So his son finally showed up today to fix the fridge but GUESS WHAT??? They had ordered the wrong part!!! The owner offered to reorder the part and absorb the expedited shipping fees and have it fixed for me in 2 days. I was already fooled once and thanked him and asked him to cancel the job at that point because I quite frankly don't have time for such unprofessionalism and poor customer service. I would give this company a negative number if I could. I had them out in 2014 to repair my dryer. After numerous trips out, he still couldn't figure out the problem and said he would refund me. I ended up having to buy a new dryer. From what started as a temperature problem, he created a no heat at all problem. I reported him to Better Business and he told them he would refund me. They closed the case and I'm still waiting for my refund. I tried to tell the BBB that he did not uphold their promise but too much time had elapsed (because he kept making excuses). We called this company back in March of 2015, to repair a front load washer. They have to order the part, it will cost $600. They want $300. Deposit. The guy says, "tell your wife she will, have her washer fixed, by the end of next week. (This is about 10 days.). We call, they say, one part is here, but the other is back ordered. It will be here next Thursday, when we get a shipment. We give them time. Two more weeks, still no part. By June, I send certified letter, I want my deposit back, less the service call. 3 weeks ago they said, "Mr. Young, I'm am so sorry, I was out of town. The check will be in the mail Friday." The first service call was 7 weeks ago. After a 1000+ mile move the freezer didn't even turn on. We called A Better Appliance Repair; the technician charged charged us $239.50 for replacing the relay or the starter. Now the freezer turned on but didn't cool, the technician said that it will start cooling in the next 24 hours. It did not and we called back the office, the technician came back and accused us of moving the freezer. When we denied he became very upset and walked out saying to deal with the office. So I called the office and reported, A Mr. Charles reassured me that he will come in person and replace the compressor himself. Mr. Charles didn't come but the original technician came back and said that he will replace the compressor and have us pay the balance of $350.00 after taking out the original $239.00 that we had already paid (meaning now we would need to $119.50 more). After that I didn't hear from them. I called many times and I was told that the compressor is on back order with the factory. They never returned my calls, I had to keep calling and last week when I finally got hold of Mr. Charles, he again assured me that he will replace the part on Sunday, June 29th for an additional $195.00 (which is considerably more than the $119.50 that the original technician had quoted). Mr.Charles said that they replaced compressors for $650.00 and they were doing me a huge favor by charging only $435!. I replied that if the original technician had diagnosed the problem correctly I would not have opted for such expensive repairs on an appliance that cost $600.00 Mr. Charles than offered a seven year warranty on the part. Anyway, Mr. Charles did not show up neither did he call. When I called on Mon, June 30th, I was told I will be called back in a half hour but was not. I called again today July 1st and am told that my appliance will be serviced on Thursday, July 3rd. Meantime, I have spoken with Sears Appliance Repair and found out after giving them the serial and model number of my appliance , I found that the compressor costs $200.00 and will be mailed out to me and I should receive it within a week. Installed it will cost me $275.00 through them. I called another company and after giving them the serial and model number they told me that it will cost me $300.00 and three weeks. This is still better than the seven week plus of wait time, un-returned calls and the $239.50 is lost if they don't show up Thursday:-( read more
