We have dined here several times over the past few years. Each visit their service and quality continues to improve, as well as the wait lines as they continue to grow. The Country Ham Quiche and Hash Brown Casserole are absolute must-orders for any brunch lover. In addition to serving tea and empowering women and children globally, A Cause For Tea also has a monstrous menu of baked goods (scones, biscuits, etc.) as well as delicious finger sandwiches AND a small shop with loose leaf teas for sale and other tea inspired trinkets and cookbooks. There is a large selection of a variety of teas that can be served individually or in a pot for multiple people. Individual servings come with options to add creams, whip cream, toppings, etc. Scones are huge and the finger sandwiches are delicious. We ordered a pimento cheese scone and the variety selection of finger sandwiches along with a pot of tea. Everything was amazing and we had plenty of scone left over to bring home. The place can get pretty busy, especially when the weather is nice so reservations are recommended. The menu is a little pricey however, remember its for a cause and not just for profit. We came here at 2pm on a Friday. The place was busy and there was a 20 min. wait for 3 of us. The home is beautiful ! We were seated upstairs and it was so much prettier than the downstairs. Highly recommend the upstairs if you have a choice. The food was amazing ! Our waitress had a great attitude, but the food arrived all at once instead of in stages (such as scone or soup first, instead of everything arriving with the main course). I highly recommend getting a hot "foggy" tea. It is prepared with steamed frothy milk on top. My selection of hot tea was the cherry almond, and it was so good I bought some on my way out in their gift shop. My one friend got a cold tea and didn't like it. The whole glass of tea was still there at the end of her meal, so I was surprised the waitress didn't ask about it. Another friend got a coffee flavored hot tea and she liked it. I got their scone of the day and it was excellent : bacon & cheddar scone. It came with strawberry jam. I also got their soup of the day and it was good, but just a tad salty: potato soup. One friend got their quiche of the day and she really liked it: creamed corn quiche. One friend got their chicken salad croissant. The chicken was shredded very thin and the croissant was perfect and fluffy ! The sandwich had a huge portion of chicken salad inside! I got the chicken pot pie as my main. I would get this again and again. It was so good !!! All of us got the lemon tiramisu for dessert. It had a VERY strong lemon flavor and thankfully no coffee flavor. ( I strongly dislike coffee, so I asked beforehand to be sure). But the strong flavor only allowed us about 5 bites before we were forced to pack it away to take home. Afterward we went thru the gift shop and bought a few items. They had some jewelry, fancy journal books, some cookbooks, napkins, children's books, tea, tea pots, picture frames, dishes, and other items. They also have a room of baked goods; however, none of them are priced. In order to discover the price, the cashier has to ring up the item... which is terribly inefficient. I liked the cute cookies, but they were $4.50 each. I highly suggest each item be labeled so as to be transparent on pricing. There are several tables outdoors if you are inclined to eat outside. Tables on the patio, in the garden of the front yard, and they made a cute outdoor room out of the carriage port. Overall, we had much fun and plan to return. read more

So excited to finally make it to Monroe to try a Cause for Tea. This quaint house full of details (and lots of customers) was fun exploring while we waited a short stint for a table. So many cute items such as kitchen decor, all things tea, trinkets as well as a pastry counter tucked away in the back. Every bit of space is used to maximize efficiency downstairs. We did not venture upstairs as that's where the private rooms are for weddings and baby showers etc. out front there is a big garden patio space that probably looks more amazing at night with all the twinkle lights they have strung on the full grown hedges surrounding the garden and lighting the massive wrap around porch. We visited on a Saturday around 11am and the place was packed. After a short wait for a table for 2, we scored a cute table in the center of the maim dining room. We opted to start with the Oh Christmas pot of tea and 2 scones. Warning, the scones here are super crumbly and a bit drier than I prefer but the flavors and accompaniments were spot on. The tea pot came atop a warmer, fueled by a tea candle which was genius and kept our pot hot :). We added on the traditional tea sandwiches: cucumber, cream cheese, egg salad and pimento w/spinach. The least fav was the pimento and spinach. IMO it lacked the flavor of sharp cheese and salt. The spinach layer needed to be more finely chopped so you don't get pulls of spinach stems. Our fav was the egg salad, it had the most flavor of all. Looking forward to returning (and maybe bringing a shot of fireball for my tea) and trying more of the brunch menu which contained chicken and waffles, chick pot pie, a biscuit flight as well as traditional high tea faire. read more

Came back again-- Frustrated because we called without an answer on their phone and when we arrived they were closed with only note on the door stating they would open up again on the 10th of January. Another customer did the same as us and was just as frustrated. There was no notice on Google hours, or a message left on their voicemail forwards to let customer know. This is one of my favorite tea houses. I love that they have table service now versus ordering at the counter. The line tended to get long and crowded. Today I met a friend and her girls for lunch. I always order the cherry almond iced tea sweetened. Perfect for a hot day! We chose to try the bacon scone and the raspberry almond scone. Both were good, but a little more dense than I prefer. The chicken on holiday dish was delicious! I would definitely get it again. We shared a lemon bar for dessert. The flavor was great, but it was really hard making it difficult to cut into. This tea house is just so lovely. You'll want to browse through the gift shop and look at the beautiful decor before sitting down to enjoy your tea and a bite to eat. Was really excited to check this place out with my tea loving mom! We came for their rose and cherry market and then sat inside for lunch. I think our server was newer - because they did not seem to know many things and was looking at notes - which is totally fine but I think contributed to some of our food/drink issues. The first issue was a recommended dish that honestly was horrible. We never got to tell her because she never came to ask us how the food was and only came back to see if we wanted the check. My chai wasn't great and didn't have the milk in it. I am not sure if it was meant to be like that and not a typical iced chai I'm used to - but again I couldn't tell her because she never came by / back. The chicken salad was REALLY good. Truly the highlight for us. French onion soup was so so - onions were pretty hard not the best I've had. And the dish she recommended we didn't like was the biscuit sampler. The biscuits were SO HARD and really dense. The worst biscuits I've had since being in NC / down south. Coming back for a Tea Time event during December. This place was so cute! I loved the Victorian style home and all the rooms were very pretty. The shop was cute and surprisingly not overpriced. The tea (earl grey and fall seasonal flavor) was very good. I have no complaints there. The desserts and sandwiches were also good. The buttermilk scone was good, but the banana nut one was not. We all found it too salty and couldn't eat it. The clotted cream was not good and was much more like whipped cream. Which was a little disappointing. They do not serve the 3 tier tea plate unless you book a private room a week in advance, but everything you'd get in that can be ordered separately. I was also disappointed that I wasn't able to order a kid's ham sandwich as a substitute or even just separately in addition to the sandwich plate. That seemed silly. The service was also just okay in my opinion. Our food was forgotten and she forgot to bring cups for our tea for some time so we just hung out with our tea pots for a while. Lastly, we went midday on a Saturday and only had to wait 15 mins and the parking was very easy. I'd come back, but definitely not my fave tea house. read more

For many years, this house was a shadow of its former glory, and the new owners have turned it into everything it should have been and more. It isn't just a restaurant, but an experience for every one of your five senses. They offer a large selection of tease, and their fresh pastry cases are a visual and gastronomic delight. I have greatly enjoyed their quiche as well as chicken pot pie, but can also recommend several of their breakfast items. My new favorite Afternoon Tea spot! Friends and I decided to visit this tea spot after hearing positive reviews. We learned that it's both a reservation and a walk-in spot. You can walk in anytime from 9 am-5 pm for afternoon tea or buy tickets online to reserve and secure a table and enjoy tea with tea sandwiches and pastries all included. If you do the walk-in, you do order a la carte but they do have teapot packages. I got the pot of tea with an assortment of sandwiches. They were delicious and big! I thought they would be cut up into small pieces like other tea houses do but no, these were normal big portions and I was full after eating half a sandwich with tea. Their scones were also very delicious and huge! Very warm and paired well with the butter. I got the spring berry tea and it was exactly what I wanted. Fruity and delicious. No need to add sugar or milk. The ambiance was everything. Antique furniture, cups, napkins just everything was very darling! They have seating upstairs, downstairs, and even outside in their courtyard and porch area. I feel like this is a much better, cheaper option than the Ballantyne tea in the Ballantyne Hotel. The ambiance is much better and you can't beat the prices for sure! They have a little tea shop inside and I bought myself a can of the Spring Berry tea I had with a strainer. I've had plenty of cups at home and it's been delicious! They have a variety of soaps, clothing, accessories teas, honey, etc. You can dress up and even dress down. This is a casual place also. Let me start by saying my experience was super mixed so I will have to come back and try again but first impressions/experiences are still important so here is my review. I dislike the fact that they don't take reservations and therefore we tried to come in the later afternoon in hope of it being less busy. Unfortunately, since it was a Saturday the time didn't seem to matter, it was crazy busy. I felt like we were in the way no matter where we tried to wait. Having to wait is a bummer but also signals to me that they are good so even though it sucks I won't hold it against them that the wait was long. My biggest issue was when we "checked in" they asked if we had been there before and we said no. This didn't matter at the time but does when my story goes further. We eventually were seated outside. It was insanely hot but at least we were under the over of the porch. We grabbed some water at the dispenser next to us and reviewed the menu and the blackboard that has specials listed. We talked for a while and debated the menu with each other. It seemed like a while but figured we were just hot and being impatient. I then looked at the time and we kept talking and waiting for service. After another 16 minutes of waiting I finally went inside and told them that we have been siting outside for at least 20 minutes and nobody has even said hello to us. They were like "oh, well you order inside". What??? Why didn't anyone tell us that? "Ooops, sorry" was the response. That was all. I then said ok well can I please order. And they tell me I order around the corner. Super frustrating. Why are you not giving information or communicating with your customers? Why did you ask if this was our first time when we came in but you didn't give us any information of how it works? Service is completely lacking here. My second issue was then when we finally made it to the right place to order our food pretty much everything we wanted from the special board outside was not actually something they had. They didn't say if they were sold out or if the board was incorrect but either way this was more miscommunication. Keep your special board updated!!! My girlfriends and I went here for brunch and it was absolutely the cutest brunch place ever. We went on a Saturday at 11am and although it was a full house in the restaurant, my group of 8 got seated fairly quick. This is a house restaurant so everything is a bit tight but very cozy and demure. Everyone who helped us including the hostess, server, and over all staff were exceptionally sweet. The environment is busy as a reminder is it a house restaurant but still has a nice flow. My only complaint would be the Belgian waffle and chicken, the chicken was not flavorful at all and bland. I tried two, a gingerbread one and a cinnamon one, both were so delish. All the pastries and desserts were just as yummy too. And the two waitresses were absolutely outstanding.
