My experience at A Cause for Tea was beyond a disappointment. My girlfriends and I planned months in advance to have a tea party with some elderly friends. Due diligence was completed as we contacted this establishment weeks in advance to alert them of our large party of 12. We were told that they do not accept reservations despite it stating to make reservations for large parties on their website. Everyone in my party had to travel at least 45 minutes or more to this establishment. Unfortunately, our excitement would soon dwindle as we were ignored and bypassed for service. One of my friends arrived 35 minutes early to alert the main hostess, Cindy, who can be described as ineffectual, substandard, unaccountable, incompetent, and unprofessional. Our party consisted of elderly ones with infirmities ages in the 80s waiting outside the establishment for a hour in low 60s weather not factoring in the wind-chill which made it feel like it was in the 50s. After 25 minutes of waiting we asked Cindy, whose communication skills at this time is non-existent, about the status of our table since more than half of our party arrived. Cindy claimed that they're still working on it and it would be another minute. As we waited we observed other patrons enter and exit the establishment who were friendlier and actually acknowledge us. As the time passed by and our entire party arrived over 40 minutes ago and we saw another party who arrived well after our party who consisted of 8 persons were seated at the "table they were preparing" for our group of now 11. Cindy avoided eye contact with us as we approached the hostess desk and saw, within view, her list where she skipped over our group and seated the third party listed down on the list. We realized that she already skipped our party for the third time! My friend tried to communicate with Cindy to find out what is happening. At no point in time did Cindy attempt to communicate with us the status of our table, why were other patrons who came well later than our group were being seated, or what was going on. We explained to Cindy that we have elderly people in your party waiting outside in the cold and we have been waiting for almost an hour. Cindy thought that the best response to resolve this problem was, "They can go back to their car and turn on the heat while they wait." The parking lot is some distance for those elderly friends to walk including that they would have to traverse gravel with CANES!!! After an hour, my friend asked Cindy whether she can sit at least the elderly friends of our party. She said that she has a table of four and the remaining 7 while be seated in 20 minutes. A third of our party is seated while the remaining wait another 25 minutes before two of my friends asked again to be seated. Cindy attempted to seat another party ahead of the remaining 7 of our group. When my friend realized this, approached Cindy again to ask when we would be seated. Cindy did not take accountability for any of her actions just like a child. She even became irrational and blamed my friend for the situation stating that originally said our party consisted of 12 but now it is 11. Then Cindy said that the seating arrangement was changed to have four to be seated ahead, but we reminded her it was suggested as a last resort due to her poor management skills. No apologies, no accountability, and no guilt. Cindy paraded around the establishment floor like a clueless and incompetent chicken roaming the chicken coop pecking at the floor. Our entire party is spread across three separate tables in different areas of the floor. At least communicate to us that we would not be near one another. We already knew that there wasn't a table to sit all of us together. The management lacked accountability only appearing to tell us that the last 7, who were seated by their staff, was too many at one table and they would need to separate us. Do better!!! read more

The food was delicious and the servers were very good. However, I would not recommend this for a party of more than four people. Our experience on Saturday, October 25th, was very disappointing. The host did not seem interested in seating our party of 11 and did not communicate well. After waiting for 30 minutes, she seated four of our party and left the rest of us waiting outside for another 30 minutes. We were then sat at a table for seven near the rest of our party only to be told that two of us would have to move to another table because of fire regulations. This left our group distributed among three tables. We spent a lot of money but couldn't enjoy the association we had planned. There was never an apology or even an acknowledgment of the inconvenience. read more

I liked the idea of the place. I like how it's in a historic house with a beautifully updated interior and gardens. Some of the food was tasty, especially the tea. I had the hot 'Apple of my chai', gluten free tea sandwiches, and a gluten free bananas nut scone. The wait staff was very knowledgeable of the menu and of pleasant demeanor. Why I'm leaving a one star review is because of what I had to go through to get to the food. My friend who coordinated this event for a group of 12 tried to make a reservation weeks in advance. She was informed that it wasn't necessary, so we agreed to arrive at a certain time, with her getting there early, to reserve a space. She did get there at least 30 minutes early (if not earlier) and was informed when the rest of our party arrived we would be seated. Everyone was there at the agreed time, the hostess was informed, and we waited. And waited. Waited some more. Usually, I would have left at this point. Dince there were some elderly ones in our group who were really looking forward to this afternoon tea experience, I remained patient. They started to lose me when after over 30 minutes we were still sitting outside in the brisk weather waiting for a table they said would be ready in just a few. Finally we were told a table for four was ready, so we had the elderly go in first, and a table for 8 would be available shortly. We proceed to be let in almost another half hour later and didn't get the table we were promised. Instead, it went to another party of eight who arrived well after we did. The hostess, Cindy, did not greet us, acknowledge us as we waited outside, or apologize and communicate the problem that led to our wait in the first place. To add insult to injury, the gluten free bread for my sandwich was cold, the center having ice crystals, and severely under seasoned, if seasoned at all. The gluten free scone, although having great flavor, was just as dry. If they are unable to host a party of 8+ or multiple large parties on a busy Saturday afternoon in that space, I wish that had been communicated. I wish some type of acknowledgment, compensation, or apology (especially to the elderly in our group) had happened. I WILL NOT RECOMMEND OR COME BACK read more

I have celiac disease and I ordered the gluten free sandwiches. I took two bites before someone who worked there came up to me and let me know they weren't gluten free. Uh oh. The manager gave us gluten free macaroons and comped the gluten free sandwiches. I will have a stomach ache but I appreciate this place doing everything they could to correct their mistake. This was my first visit to this beautiful Victorian teahouse. We were greeted warmly upon arrival by a young lady who gave us a brief history of the house and the background of yow the teahouse began and the Nicaraguan mission support. They have a wide variety of tea choices that satisfy any taste and the food is plentiful and delicious. read more

Expected it to be busy but not as slow as it was. Waited 30 minutes + to order and once we sat down it was another hour & 20 minutes before our food came. They may have been understaffed but we had young girls with us who were starving so a heads up would have been nice. The food & tea were great, just wouldn't return on a Saturday. read more
