Cozy Corner Cuban Bistro in Garwood delivers the real thing. I ordered the Cuban sandwich, croquetas de jamón, and a Cuban coffee, and all three were outstanding. The sandwich was the most authentic I have had outside Miami and Tampa, pressed just right with the balance of pork, ham, pickle, and mustard that tells you they care. The croquetas were textbook, creamy inside with a crisp shell, and the coffee had that rich, roasty punch that makes you sit up a little straighter. What sealed it was the atmosphere. The room felt authentically Cuban from the music to the decor, no detail spared, nothing performative. We were the only ones there at 2 p.m. on a Saturday, which made it feel like our own little escape. Service was kind, prompt, efficient, and attentive without hovering, exactly how you want it. I was with my soulmate and we both left smiling. I will absolutely come back and I want to work my way through more of the menu. This is a keeper. read more

We truly enjoyed our authentic cuban dining experience at this place! They have gone above and beyond with the detailed decorations that give a clear vibe of their tributes to Cuba. With a modern and artsy style, this place has a welcoming and comfortable feel from the outside decor to the entire space inside at every turn. The hospitality feels very casual and familiar, not stuffy or pretentious... feels like your visiting family. Even the chef and owner came out to greet our table and make us feel at home. The food had all authentic flavors... rich textures and flavors infused every bite... and each dish was plated so it matched the artistry of the room. We so enjoyed this place and will definitely be back! Cozy Corner Cuban Bistro definitely gives cozy vibes. The atmosphere was very warm and welcoming. I love the art and the aesthetics of the restaurant. We came to cozy corner for dinner around 6:00pm on a Saturday. It wasn't busy when we went. We were the only ones at the establishment before another small group came in. Our waiter was amazing and sweet. He was very enthusiastic about giving his recommendation in terms of what to order off the menu. He had recommended their special for the evening which I believe was oxtails so my sister and a friend of ours got that and said it was good. I ended up ordering the chicken cozy bowl which was super yummy and filling. While enjoying our meal the owner came out to say hi to us and asked how we enjoyed our meals which was super nice of him. I don't think I've ever ate at a Cuban restaurant before but I'm glad I got to try cozy corner and it did not disappoint. I thought that was a nice gesture and a perk of dining during afternoon weekday vs weekends where many places are packed and the service not as attentive. Casa de Tajas from 8th Street in Miami, just appeared as A Cozy Corner Cuban Bistro on Center Street in Garwood, NJ. The food is excellent, Cuban Sandwiches, Sweet Plantains (Plantanos Marudos), Cuban Coffee, Tres Leches, etc. I had the Frita Cubano burger. It was outstanding. Very cute atmosphere that makes you feel like you're in an authentic Cuban-American restaurant in South Florida or Union City. I highly recommend! read more

The food. Congri (Cuban black rice with black beans) was hard. Not uncooked but hard. I ask for capuchino and it was really sweet. When I mentioned that to the water who was super nice, professional and friendly by the way, he said that they used condensed milk. That's not how capuchino is made. The flan was super sweet and tasted processed instead of made from scratch. The restaurant is really nice inside with Cuban vibe. When they opened approximately 2 years ago. The food was fabulous. The Cuban sandwich was a study in pork. The roasted pork dinner was so good that you wanted to dip your fingers in the plate so you could lick your fingers clean. I was there this week. The Cuban sandwich was sad. Lacking in taste. The bread was stale. My friends were polite. They said their steak sandwich was good. The food took forever and a day To arrive. Now I have to take them to Hoboken to taste the Cuban sandwich from La isla. I can't let my Costa Rican friends think that this is the height of fast Cuban cuisine. I should have marked it as two stars. BUT its hard to find Cuban restaurants. I will stop by the Cuban restaurant in Westfield. The owner of that establishment knows the Garwood restaurant owner. The place is still beautiful and I hope they can get back to what is used to be. It went from one of the best Cuban sandwiches to one of the worst I've had. A lot of cartilage in the pork and only two small round pickles. It's not the Cuban they made when they first opened. The empanadas were still pretty good. Only had take out, but the vibe is immersive. cozy but not cramped, it reminded me of bistros in the city. Staff was friendly, waiting to help. Order was ready befor pickup time. Cuban sandwich is as good as they say. The roast pork edges out the pickle and mustard flavors, while the swiss and ham sit back and fill you up. And yes this feeds 2 people. The food was so-so. I ordered the Cuban sandwich and it tasted bland. My friend ordered the arroz con pollo, which on the other hand, was very salty. What disappointed me the most was the service. The person who waited our table did not seem to speak English very well, which is okay for me because I speak Spanish. However, I was with 2 friends that speak English. One of them informed him of her allergy to shellfish. The waiter seemed confused about this. A few minutes later, I called him over to clarify in Spanish about the allergy. At that moment, he seemed to have forgotten our orders and asked us to repeat them. After the food came out, my other friend noticed her rice looked creamy and wanted to make sure there wasn't any dairy in it because she's lactose intolerant. The waiter then looked amused and said in Spanish "Ustedes son un caso". Which to me meant in English that he was making light of this and saying we were being complicated. This was a complete lack of professionalism and basic understanding of serving food. I would not want to return to a restaurant that gives this attitude toward food sensitivities. I passed this new pkace several times and saw the clear transformation from a burger joint to an interesting Cuban restaurant. Walked in as party of 2 with no reservation. Seated right away. Very nice wait staff. Had all of the typical Cuban dishes and some specialties. Not too busy menu. We had an appetizer and 2 entrees and we could have skipped the appetizer or one of the entrees and shared. Bill was under $50 and we left with doggy bag. Food was very tasty. Shrimp empanadas, Cuban Sandwich and my wife got a Cuban bowl with Pork. All were excellent. Big mason jar of ice water and a few extra for the beer we brought. Ordered the bowl. What a disappointment. Huge bowl of salty yellow rice with no flavor and some kind of sauce. A scattering of black beans that tasted like it came from a can and one tiny maduro ( the only thing with flavor) and about five micro shrimp that tasted like overcooked pellets. First time dining here after reading the reviews. An amazing place for dinner! Truly a warm cozy place to dine. The hospitality was second to none. The owner/chef came to our table multiple times and even brought a complimentary appetizer. My husband had the paella- enormous prawns and everything else from the land and sea you can think of. I had the Cuban shrimp which was absolutely delicious. The beef empanadas were crispy and so tasty. We finished our meal with espressos and rice pudding. Went on a Friday night with my husband a couple of weeks ago server was clearly new as he got our order wrong (we asked for a sauce on the side and it came smothered on), did not bring refills on water, did not open my husbands Mexican coke so we had to bring him back to do so and he joked saying he should open it with his teeth, we asked for 3 takeout boxes he only brought 1, I asked for lemon wedge for my water and he forgot to bring it so I had to ask again after 15 minutes, did not check on us once until it was time to pay. Just a mess. And it was not even busy. Nice guy but terrible service. The owner Andres did stop by once at the beginning and asked how all was but at this point we didn't have any of our food, did not bother to let him know about the mediocre service. Food: Bland. I ordered the lechon with congri and there was no flavor (I've been to many Cuban restaurants and have had much better) my husband ordered grilled chicken and it was smothered with a tasteless red sauce, and for appetizers we got tostones with beef and it was cold. Dessert was tres leches and chocolate mousse 3/5. Overall, do not recommend and will not be back. read more

This is a cute bistro, clean. I purchased Lechon and Snapper as takeout. The Lechon was light on the portion as were the black beans. The yellow rice was dry. The snapper was heavily breaded and slightly overdone. The food is not cheap by any means and if it was up to par, cost would not be an issue. I have been to Cuba and do not find this authentic. This review is based on a takeout order. All the food was tasty; steak sandwich, chicken sandwich and beef empanadas. Everything tasted fresh, the owner is friendly, the place seemed to have a good vibe based on the short time I was in the restaurant to pick up. I have to knock a star off because the sandwiches were not what was described in the online menu. The sandwiches were supposed to come with caramelized onions but neither sandwich had any at all. The steak san was supposed to come with potato sticks. There were none. The chicken sandwiches were supposed to come with fries. None in the bag though. Could be startup issues but if its not, they should change the menu description. I will probably try them out one more time, hopefully seated in the restaurant and see how things go. read more

Portion sizes are overall good however food is inconsistent. The first time I had their Cuban sandwich it was fantastic, the correct amount of mustard and the meat was not dry. I was so excited I told my gf next time she was here she should get one. However, that time it was a decent bit too dry and not enough mustard so we were both slightly disappointed. After a while I figured I'd order again to see if the second time was just unlucky and nope the meat was super super dry. That being said they have one of the best tres leches I've had. Definitely avoid the empanadas they are overpriced garbage. Overall, wildly inconsistent, if the sandwich was like the first time I had it that in conjunction with their tres leches would warrant a five star review. Due to the inconsistency they get three stars and if not for the excellent cake it would be two stars at best. read more

An aptly named small restaurant serving lunch and dinner, closed on Mondays. My friend is Puerto Rican and a conniseur of Cuban, Dominican, and Puerto Rican food and has tried many restaurants in New Jersey. We ordered a cuban sandwich and chicken sandwich, both served with crispy plantains. The amount of meat on each was generous, and both were delicious! We ate the other half of both sandwiches that we couldn't finish the next day, when they were once again delicious! The service was excellent, and the owner was very personable. The ambiance was like that of a found treasure of a cafe. I think this would be a good place to bring my Parisian cousins, to give them a taste ofAmerican-Latin food in a treasure box of a cafe.
