I honestly can't say a single bad thing about Naxos. After my first visit, I went back the very same week, and it has officially earned a spot in my top three restaurants in New Jersey. From the moment you arrive, everything is exceptional. Parking is plentiful, which is always a plus. The restaurant itself is stunning, with beautiful colors and an atmosphere that truly makes you feel like you've been transported to Greece. The service is equally impressive! From the warm welcome at the hostess stand to the attentive and knowledgeable servers. For appetizers, we've tried the octopus, roasted beets, and the lobster gyros. Every dish was outstanding. As someone who loves octopus, I was surprised that the lobster gyros completely stole the show. The flavors were incredibly unique, and every bite was absolute perfection. The seafood here is cooked beautifully. We've had the Lavraki, Tsipoura, and Dover sole, and each one was fresh, flavorful, and perfectly prepared. If you're a fan of branzino, I highly recommend trying the Lavraki. The lamb is also fantastic and definitely worth ordering. For dessert, we've only ever ordered the Loukoumades because I just can't bring myself to choose anything else. These golden, crispy dough balls are soaked in a luscious homemade honey syrup and are simply irresistible. When you find perfection, why change it? Have been wanting to try this place since they opened so we made a nice evening of it. Pros and Cons to list: Pros: Food was very good--nice presentation, good flavor, thought portions were nicely sized. Ambiance was spectacular---they definitely put time and money into the design of the place and it was beautiful. Cons: Just too pricey---mainly for the area. We love spending money on good food but even lowering costs by $5 would go a long way. We also had a lackluster service experience but I hope it was a blunder and not their usual----they forgot to put our mains in so after about 40 minutes following appetizers, I think they remembered. Waiter never came back to ask us if we wanted another drink until the mains finally arrived, we had to ask for water to be refilled. Wasn't very packed so that disappointed us. I truly felt like I was visiting a Greek island. I especially loved the curtain accents. We tried so many different dishes and everything was so fresh and flavorful. Our first visit to Naxos Estiatorio in Woodland Park on Route 46. We've been wanting to check them out since they opened, but you know how life gets in the way. We finally made it in, and I'm glad we did. I remember this location back when it was "On The Border," a Mexican cantina. Naxos has completely transformed the space. Elegant, inviting, and with a genuinely fresh atmosphere, something that's surprisingly hard to find lately. We arrived around 5:30 pm, a bit early, which was perfect for us. Only a few tables were occupied. Service was excellent, and our server, Jasmin, was extremely knowledgeable about both the menu and the restaurant. She walked us through the specials and answered every question with ease. What we ordered: * DAOU Cabernet * Lamb Cigar Rolls - crispy fillo cones filled with braised lamb, caramelized onions, and mint tzatziki * Lavraki - Greek sea bass (bronzino) * Mussels Metaxa - metaxa brandy, oven-dried tomato sauce, feta * Bone Marrow Tartare Special - a mix of beef and tuna tartare Everything was delicious. Truly flavorful dishes across the board, and we enjoyed every bite. By the time we finished our meal, the restaurant was much busier and nearly full. Definitely a big change from when we first arrived early before the typical dinner rush. It was nice to see how lively it became. The only small negative, and I'm really nitpicking here... was the seating. The chairs at our table were a bit wobbly and had a few noticeable stains. Not a big deal, but just something we experienced. Maybe it was just that table. (One right across the fresh fish station.) If you're in the area, definitely give this local small business a try... they're doing things right. Plenty of parking, no issues at all. Ordered takeout from Naxos and will definitely need to come back to dine-in for 2 reasons: 1) the space is beautiful and 2) the food was delicious! We ordered the braised lamb gyro and lobster gyro and really enjoyed both. Everything was fresh, and the lamb was especially flavor packed. Recently spent a Tuesday evening at Naxos with a couple of friends. My friend had selected it and my first thought on arrival was a mild panic. I had a recent mediocre experience at a gorgeous Greek restaurant and upon opening the door, noticed that Naxos is a gorgeous Greek restaurant. Over the next couple of hours, I happily found out that their food matches the decor! We were greeted by friendly and professional staff and brought immediately to a comfortable table. Lighting is perfect and the vibe is clean and new! Every member of the staff was wonderful. Our waiter Alan gave us excellent recommendations. We opened with 6 appetizers as a test to see if we wanted to order more. By the time we got two bites into the first appetizer, we knew we were in for something special! That first appetizer to land was the beets. I've eaten my fair share of beets, none have surpassed these. Texture and flavor were absolutely divine! So good that we considered ordering another round for dessert. (Before selecting actual desserts) The octopus carpaccio deserves its own paragraph! Not sure how they got octopus to do that and that creativity is special! Texture and flavor were again perfect! Tuna ceviche, lamb meatballs, lobster tacos, and the best stuffed grape leaves rounded out our first round. By then we knew we would add some more food and went with a whole grilled fish (fagri) and the moussaka bites. Out of everything we had, the moussaka bites were the only thing that was tasty but not memorable. (Probably a B- in a meal filled with A and A+ dishes) Perhaps it's because your mind wants traditional moussaka and the bites deliver it in fried ball form. Not bad but not amazing. The fish on the other hand was amazing! Grilled perfectly and an ample portion. Mild in flavor and absolutely delicious! I enjoyed the Greek yogurt dessert, just right after an excellent meal. My choice was the classic Greek dish Moussaka. It fell short for my taste . It's in my top 2 choices in international cuisine . I've had it countless of times domestic and internationally ( Travel Tip : When abroad find a Greek Restaurant . You can never go wrong ). I was disappointed I've had better . I would go back and perhaps stick to the fish or meat selections . There is a dining area to the side for " private parties " . One started a couple hours after i arrived .But it's not enclosed . We had a Saturday night reservation for a party of four and were seated immediately, even though the restaurant was packed. We started with cocktails, which our ladies absolutely loved. One thing we really appreciated was that the tables aren't crowded on top of each other--you can actually enjoy a conversation without feeling cramped. For appetizers, we ordered the Octopus Carpaccio and the Saganaki, and both were outstanding. Perfectly prepared and full of flavor. For our main courses, we had the Braised Lamb Shank and the Swordfish Kebab--both were delicious, well-seasoned, and beautifully presented. This restaurant has a very charming exterior, looks like they pulled it straight from Greece. Inside, the decor continues to impress, a lot of attention to detail. We started with the watermelon feta salad, which was delicious, lots of flavor. The zucchini and eggplant chips were a good, crispy without being greasy. The portion of tzatziki was small, so we ended up ordering more on the side. All of our meals were fantastic, the Chicken spanaki, Seaside Halibut and the Fagru. He's not too fussy and ate it anyways but I probably would have said something especially for a MP item. As far as the dish I ordered, it was divine. I don't remember the name but it was off the specials menu which some may perceive to be a way for restaurants to get rid of inventory but I had zero regrets. The fish was fresh, perfectly seared and seasoned. The accompanying risotto was rich and creamy, pairing perfectly with the fish. I've reviewed this restaurant previously. We were decidedly on the disappointed side on our first visit. The main reason for that disappointment on our first visit was the sauces on our food were overpowering. On a repeat visit we enjoyed our meals more. The ambience remained pleasant and the service acceptable, though given the upscale pricing this could use improvement. It does fall short of what it ought to be at such an establishment. The standout dish on our second visit were the grilled king crab legs. These are not cheap, but they were excellent. All things considered, the place can improve in some respects, but it is better than the 3-stars I rated it on our initial visit. It has a ways to go to get to 5-stars though. read more
