We thought it was still curing and that's exactly what Chris from Cut Above Pools told us. The plaster continued to increase in white splotches throughout the next year. From initial call, to final salt conversion, our recent backyard transformation was by far the best contractor experience I've ever experienced. A Cut Above seems to have all of the right people in place to seamlessly move a client from initial design meeting (including 3D software modeling) to final completion. I make the following points when recommending them to everyone: 1. Our project: We contracted to build a pool and spa, custom outdoor kitchen including all hookups, custom fire pit, and concrete pads, perimeter, and down the side of the house. 2. Project management: A Cut Above handled all aspects of this job, including permitting/inspections (they met the inspectors onsite each time) and coordination with our landscaper (to run water and drain lines under cement). Everyone that came onsite for each phase of the project was friendly, professional, skilled and well informed of the overall project and how their work fit into the project plan. I found Chris and his family to all be very reasonable and accommodating, and overall a pleasure to interact with. 3. Timeline: We treated them with respect, including being prompt with milestone payments and making all decisions in real-time throughout the process, and they responded with professional and friendly service. Working closely with them, they were able to finish the entire project within 4 months (Including 30-day waiting period before adding salt to pool water, and one week rain delay). They kept us informed of what to expect during each stage, and everything occurred exactly as they said it would. 4. Price: They may not be the cheapest, but not overpriced by any means. They detailed every aspect of their bid, in writing, and final project came within quote. Chris bids jobs based on years of customer feedback and quotes a really nice base package of equipment and technology that many regret not getting initially, and add later. We have no regrets and use everything. Consider this when comparing against other quotes. Also, They managed every aspect of the project, and use skilled professionals (I saw the work being performed and interacted with each crew) which isn't the cheapest way to go. We couldn't be happier with the amazing work done by A cut above to remodel our pool and backyard. We contacted half a dozen pool companies, and at least a dozen landscape companies. We got the best of both worlds with A cut above, and our backyard got exactly what it needed. Our yard was overdue for some professional TLC. We knew when we bought the house that the pool was going to need new plaster and the tile had seen better days. Our lawn once looked great, but became a victim of the California drought. The previous owner(s) were DIYers and things weren't done right. Our deck was an uneven disaster and the drainage system....didn't drain! One landscaper I tried to get an estimate from referred to the old landscape work as a "cluster ---k" and he didn't finish the bid since he didn't want the job LOL I was able to appreciate his honesty and very thankful that we found A cut above! We were on a budget and to our surprise, we were NOT pressured into financing by A cut above. That speaks volumes of an honest company who truly cares about their customers. They worked with us to determine what part of our project needed to be first, so we could add to it later on down the road. I was in awe of how hard the crews worked to transform our backyard. They had the old uneven disaster flagstone/paver deck gone in a day! We wanted to add stairs and a retaining wall to our hillside. The guys had to literally carve out stairs to get to the top to create the retaining wall, AND hand carry buckets of cement just to make it happen!! A couple weeks before our remodel started our pool pump died. We ended up upgrading all of the equipment to be completely energy efficient. Just before we added salt, I did the formerly dreaded task of cleaning the pool filter. I am in love with the new equipment. We had an older pentair DE filter and we upgraded to the pentair quad DE filter. I am in love with this filter!!! It is the easiest filter to clean!! I had the cartridges clean and back together in just over an hour! I use to hate cleaning the filter. We can't thank you enough for our awesome remodel!! read more

I recently began a search for a local pool company. During my search, I located A Cut Above Pools. I made arrangements to meet with a representative who was very courtious as we discussed design ideas. All in all, it was a pleasant experience and at the end of our meeting, I was told I'd hear back from them soon. After three weeks of waiting for an estimate, I received an email saying they (A Cut Above) were to busy at this point to take on my project. I felt disappointed that not only did they not want my project, but they didn't bother to call me personally and explain to me why. I see daily post from them on Facebook showing their work and projects they are designing but they didn't have time for mine. In my professsional oppion, call your potential client and let them know your busy but will be happy to do the work in the near future. So we picked up the phone and called to set up an appointment for them to come out and give us an estimate. To our disappointment we are a little out of their area and since they are very busy I was informed they wouldn't be able to do my pool. We spoke for some time on the phone the owner explained that they wouldn't want to take on a job that they wouldn't be able to provide me the level of service they like to give their customers. Let me tell you that speaks very loudly that this company isn't in business to make a quick dollar they are in business to provide excellent customer service. In my book when a business turns down business because they want to make sure they will be there when you need them they are serious about taking care of their customers. Oner the years I have put in 3 pools. Although I have been satisfied with my previous pool builder, he was out of business so I had to shop around for someone new. I had a family friend who builds pools provide an estimate as well as A Cut Above Pools. I was going to get a 3rd estimate but after meeting with Cole at A Cut Above and getting the estimate I stopped there. I don't write reviews, but had to in this case. Project was never over promised but always over delivered! Cole answered my text messages 7 days a week and very quickly. We had an issue with our electrical panel while we were out of town/out of the country. Our a/c, refrigerator, freezer etc all quit working. I text Cole and he contacted his dad who came to my house on July 4th to fix the issue! He had to get inside the house and found that our kitchen freezer had leaked due to the lack of power. Since no one was home he cleaned it all up! Who does that? Here it is 4th of July and he cares enough to fix the problem. I didn't expect for him to do that, but at the same time I realized we would lose all of our food in the deep freeze and refrigerators. He did it because that is the way they work. So so impressed! Pool is now done ahead of schedule and on budget with no extra add ons costs and done professionally. They care as if its there own pool they are working on. A Cut Above Pools didn't install my pool, but I am reviewing their customer service and designs. Cole came out and gave us a bid and met with us to go over design and questions. He was very knowledgeable, polite and helpful. He came with a design and I really liked what he came up with, he had some good ideas and understood what we wanted. I liked that their pricing was itemized and was very upfront and that if we had signed a contract that there wouldn't have been surprise charges during the project. They are a reputable, honest family owned business. Cole followed up with us after our intial meeting, he was personable and didn't make us feel like he was rushing to get rid of us so he could get to a new bid that may be more money for the company (like other companies we met with). He also worked around our work schedules and met in the evening. A Cut Above and one other contractor were the two we were deciding between and it was a difficult decision. We decided to go with the other contractor only because the other one had installed my friend's pool, so that was the one slight edge the other contractor had over A Cut Above pools, but we both agree that we feel we would have been equally happy if A Cut Above was our contractor.
