If you want to be lied to repeatedly from the owner on down to the receptionist, use this facility. If you want money to be stolen from you during the most difficult time of your life, use this facility. If you want added stress and headaches while you say goodbye to your terminally ill loved one, use this facility. On their website they state they provide "Caring...Comfort...Compassion." After you read my story, you decide if that's the descriptive words you would use for this facility. The hospital recommended Amed Hospice to us and that is the only reason we used them. My father had stage 4 cancer and we signed him up on a Tues in May, 2020 and he passed away that Fri. My father was a self-pay patient that would get reimbursed 100% from his health insurance if he had an itemized receipt. Since he was self-pay, Amed had us pay upfront $2000 as a retainer and when we went over that amount, we would be expected to pay more. But if we didn't use the full $2000, we would be reimbursed. We only used their services for 4 days and during that time, we never even had a nurse come out to check on him except for the initial sign up to do the paperwork. So, the total cost was $400. My father passed away on May 22, 2020 and today is Sept. 8, 2020 and we still haven't gotten our $1600 reimbursed or the $400 itemized receipt. I have called countless times and spoken to Kimberly, Rosalyn (financial), Beverly (the lady that signed us up) and even Walt (the owner). Each time I call, they tell me it's someone else's job. I was told that it was sent certified mail and then 3 days later called to ask about the itemized receipt and they said, "When they send it out, they will put that in with the check." I said, "Wait, it was already sent days ago certified mail, right?" and she gave me NO RESPONSE and that was in July! Each time they tell me they will call back. They never do. I mean, NEVER. They tell me they will text me back. They don't. They lie about everything. Then I was told I had to wait for them because they may have a hurricane. Hurricane is over (and it didn't hit them) and I got no call back and no response to my text messages either and that was 2 weeks later. So we had to call on my husband's phone (didn't recognize the number) so they would answer us. And then I just got a "Oh you didn't get it yet?" My mother is a widow with no income and had to move into my house to live and so every penny she has is precious. At the hardest time of our lives, Amed was supposed to be there to help us as we face a new harsh reality. Instead, they have stolen her money, forced us to call multiple times to try to get it back, lied to us over and over and over again and refused to give us an itemized receipt so that I can try to at least recover the $400 from her insurance for the care he did receive. At this point, my dad's bills are all submitted and have been reimbursed and now we are ready to close the insurance account and start to move on past these medical bills. I can't though until I submit this bill and I told them that. They don't care. What a horrible way to handle business. So, I am forced to think either 1 of 3 things is going on. Either they are all totally incompetent and cannot write a check or produce the appropriate paperwork to do business with patients and insurance companies OR they don't have the money to send us our $1600 OR they are thieves. I am assuming it's because they don't have the money. If they don't have the money, just tell us. Don't make us beg for our money especially after my father has died. They have made his death much worse because I am having so much extra stress involved with it. I hate being lied to. Just be an adult and be honest about what's going on. Don't lie to me and then let me catch you over and over and over again. It just makes you look stupid and shows me that you think I am a moron to even believe you. What a way to honor my father and his money and his widow. So I caution anyone before they use Amed. Go into it knowing how they treat families of terminally ill patients. Go into it knowing that they may not have enough money to keep their doors open much longer. Don't believe what they say. If they can't be trusted to tell the truth about their financing department, they can't be trusted to tell the truth about your loved one's condition or how they will treat them. My dad had over 120 medical bills that totaled over $298,000. He had treatment in over 4 different states. Amed Hospice is the ONLY company doing this to us and they are the ones we hired to help us say goodbye. Absolutely pathetic. Again, they are either 1) incompetent, 2) broke and cannot afford to refund $1600 or 3) they are thieves...or any combination of the 3. Before hiring them, ask yourself, which one of these options are you comfortable having in a company that you hire to care for your loved one in their last days? read more

Under no circumstance should you select this company as your hospice provider. On just our second day of service, the critical care nurse was scheduled to stay at his home overnight and failed to show up. When we finally got ahold of someone 1.5 hours after the scheduled time, I was told the nurse had car trouble and they had no backup available. They then offered to send someone 12 hours later, the following morning. How do they not have a backup nurse that is on-call when something like this happens? In my opinion, this is a dangerous matter of negligence for a critical care patient and I would not recommend that anyone reading this put their love one's final days in the hands of a organization that may not even show up. read more

I have use Amed many times over the past five years for my mom. She has broken her arm badly multiple times and had seven surgeries on the same arm, care after pneumonia, and knee replacement. All were good experiences. We are now using them for hospice. The nursing facility called them to assess my mother for a round the clock nurse. She can not even reach for a drink of water. When awake she is agitated and breathes labored. The nurse arrive and did not even stand close to the bed and decided she did not need one. My mother is quickly declining from terminal lung cancer. I asked him to check her co2 level and he said that was not part of the care. I asked him did he have a meter and he said yes. I then asked why if he was not allowed to use it. He did not answer. He kept standing in the room and I told him he could leave if he could not do anything. He spouted off his bosses name and phone number with his back to me. He slammed the door as he left. I followed him out and said I dare you to be so rude and slam the door. He said he did not slam it, just shut it. I have heard that door open and close many more times than I like and it does not slam on its own. I talked in length to the hospital doctors and social workers at UTMB and this is not what her care should be. I also was explained the care by a Amed employee when I sighed the papers agreeing to her care. I am heart broken, angry and mystified by their representative today. read more

A-Med was such a relief after a horrible experience that my family and I had with Heartland Hospice. The company seemed to be well-managed, well equipped, and well employed. Our nurse, Lisa, was extremely knowledgeable about my dad's needs, organized, and responsive. On top of that, she was extremely considerate, sweet, caring, and supportive to my family and I. In our experience with other hospice personnel, we found a similar trend of kind and qualified people. They helped us enjoy the time that we had left with my father and made the experience as positive as it could be. read more

My mother is dying tonight. A-Med hospice care abandoned us just when we needed them most and we have a memory care care giver filling in for their failure to support our family. Do not trust your loved ones to A-Med Hospice Care. read more

My family just experienced such awfull treatment during what was a very upsetting time for us. we did not have a choice of the hospice we were going to use. the facility we were putting my dad in only used Amed. so we went with them. we took my dad home the first night as we discovered he would be better off at home with hospice and home health care. we arrived home at about 1000pm. he had left the hospital that day at about 4 pm. when we arrived at facility no mediction had yet arrived (it was ordered that am) finally arrived atabout 8pm the next evening. we had home health care coming in 24 hrs a day as hospice would only be there 4 days a week. medication arrived with instructions as needed ( did not know then that meant every 2 hrs) my dad had already gone since noon the following day without anything for pain. as the nursing home had nothing to give him when he arrived there... anyway he was home for almost 1 week when he was moved to the critical care list and hopice would take over 24hrs aday(or so we thought) we let home health care go as someone with Amed was to be there by 9pm ( that is what we were told by amed) no one ever showed up that night. the next day 7 am a really nice nurse Teresa showed up and she was great.that night we had a nurse show up that we have pictures of her sleeping more than half the night away. we reported that to the case worked and she said that would never happen again. we had several other nurses come in that we truly could see the compassion they felt for the family and patient. it seems ever time we had a complaint and brought it to our case workers attention something would go wrong after that. the night before my dad died we were assured by the case worker that very day in my dads living rm, we would have 24 hr care and no more problems would occur. well that night no one should up again and when I checked with Amed they said no one had ever been assigned for that night.....the night my dad passed the nurse was a student that was very inexperienced and did not really know what she was doing. we had been ask not to sit in the room with my dad but they would get us in his last minutes ... well this young girl came into the room and said hes dead... no compassion what so ever. and very confussed on how it happened.. she was working on homework and not really paying attention to my father.. I know he is in a better place and that his death was coming but if I had to do this all over again I would really check out the hospice group and not chose this agency. read more
