I stopped in on a lovely early Saturday morning with my fiancé prior to working an event. We were staying at a nearby Inn and needed a quick bite to eat in the morning on our way, so New Leaf was close enough. This literal transformed house was welcoming and cozy. The first floor is the cafe, and littered with points of interest in every nook. The breakfast menu was basic, as expected of a coffee shop. We ordered a croissant sandwich and breakfast burrito, along with two lattes. I ordered a maple latte, because obviously (ADK!) , with an extra shot. The espresso was delicious and the flavored well. The croissant breakfast sandwich was cooked well and had a ton of flavor! Our barista/chef was a man of few words but friendly overall and graciously allowed our pup inside without complaint. The lattes and food were really good and made our morning great in this beautiful town. Do stop by if you are in the mood for a quirky cafe with a good grind. read more

I am staying at high peaks lake house for 3 days and need my coffee. Often. I checked New Leaf's hours and have walked up the hill to their location 3 times in the last 24 hours based upon the times shown and they were closed each time. Too bad. The last time I went a few minutes ago and I saw the hand drawn sign in the door saying 8-12. I don't know how many days/week that means but I am done walking up there. Lovely place, really quality food for such a small place and pretty standard prices. My bagel came with a strong helping of cream cheese, which I felt was appropriate to the price. Just one guy working so they probably can't do huge orders but for a quick stop this is a great place. read more

While waiting in line for twenty minutes, I had plenty of time to look around and was very disturbed. Wondering how this place got more than two stars to be honest. The dirtiest establishment I've ever been in, everything looked like it hasn't been cleaned in years, there had to be tons of food service violations going on back there. After noticing the filth I decided to just get a muffin because it didn't look like something the man behind the counter (without gloves on) had made. My family and I have been visiting Lake Placid every year since I was a kid and we absolutely love A New Leaf. Yes, their organic coffee is more expensive than Starbucks, but when you go to a lovely town like Lake Placid which clearly thrives on its small businesses, why go to a Starbucks when you can do that anywhere else in the world? And although the shop is not located on Main Street, it's well worth the short climb uphill as their service and home-cooked lunches are wonderful. They even cater to vegetarians, offering lovely bean soups and fresh pastries. We travel to Lake Placid a couple of times a year for a short amount of time, and the owner knows us so well that he smiles as soon as we come in and remembers my Mum's latte. One of his staff members even helped us place a phone call to the owner of a dog that had run away. She was very attentive and caring, going above and beyond her job's expectations. Having once worked at a Starbucks, I can understand that amount of dedication to a customer wouldn't have been approved of by management. A New Leaf is in a gorgeous house with an art gallery upstairs full of local work. It's far cozier than sitting inside a franchise shop. I stock up on their organic coffee every year, which they gladly put through their coffee grinders to each and every customer's specifications. The coffee house is a big part of why I enjoy being in Lake Placid every year with my family. I highly recommend A New Leaf for a quiet cup of coffee by the lake. read more

Excellent breakfast burritos, we've been coming for years but the owner was quite bitter when we visited last year which put a slight damper on our good mood. We left him the usual 50% tip two days in a row hoping it would brighten his day a little. They could be such a cool coffeehouse but it's just really weird and run down inside. It seems the owner is trying to sell anything and everything along with coffee....toiletries, kites, used books, camping supplies, earrings, essential oils, smoking devices, gas station snacks... EVERYTHING. The "decor" is peeling wallpaper, old posters, dirty furniture. Even the boards that have the coffee options written on them are held together with duct tape. I experienced the worst customer service of my life at this establishment. I went to go get coffees and something to eat. I got 2 large coffees and a breakfast sandwich it rang up $15 which I found a little on the steep side. I asked for milk and sugar in one and was rudely told I could go and do it myself. I decided not to tip. The man sat down and twiddled on his computer until my sandwich was ready. As I turned to leave the man who was originally rude to me decided it would be appropriate to play a video on the definition of "gratuity". I have never been so offended in my life. Hands down the best coffee etc. in town! The spot is unique -- you are actually in a house -- with lotso tchotchkes for sale. They have been there for 7 years but in the biz in LP for over 20 years. Totally non commercial and family owned. Park on the left side of the house or in front. I don't understand the hate here, because this place is fantastic! I grew up in the region and recently moved away. One of my memories was having a college interview here for a school you wouldn't expect to come to this quirky place. If you want a bit of charm, please come here. There is a Starbucks around the corner but why go there when you can get that every other day of the year? When I had my interview, I arrived three hours early because I had nothing better to do. I brought my book, cozied up in the corner, ordered a hot chocolate, and the owner didn't mind. I was there probably four hours total and he was really relaxed about it! I did order a few drinks but nonetheless. It's quirky, weird, and all the charm that Lake Placid is known for. Also if you're here in the winter you might run into some pretty cool people. I passed up Starbucks in town so that I could #shoplocal here; big mistake. I ordered a sweaty iced coffee with coconut milk. Sweaty coffee you ask? Yes, the whole place was tiny and had no airflow. It wasn't even that hot outside, but inside felt like I was literally being roasted like a coffee bean. I could have let that pass if the coffee had been good but it wasn't. It tasted like burning and old beans that had been left out in the air too long. The man behind the counter also forgot to give me the coconut milk until my wife reminded him that we had ordered it.
