Needed a place to stop for something to eat and drink. This was the closest place and it ended up being a great little stop. We were in the mood for lunch and they were only serving breakfast that Sunday. So, we opted for the most lunch-ish thing available that wasn't too heavy. Bagels and cream cheese. They were perfectly toasted and there was plenty of spreadable cream cheese. It made for a perfect light lunch. I don't eat eggs, so it did limit my options. If you do eat eggs, their breakfast dishes with eggs look amazing. Of course, we tried the coffee. It was very good and we loved the mugs. The place is rustic-charming. The service was good. It's a busy place. We loved the regulars who stopped in and didn't even need to say what they wanted. The servers already knew. The service is good but slow. Not sure if that's because they were busy or if they're just not the type to rush things. The bathrooms are clean. There is an up-charge for credit cards. It's hard to resist buying mugs and coffee to take home. The cookies were so hard to resist we bought some to keep us snack-happy on our travels. Definitely a good place to stop. read more

If you're wondering what this place is, the name is an accurate representation. It's in the Adirondacks, you'll be near mountains, and you'll be drinking some of the finest coffee this land has to offer. While I haven't had the opportunity to try the entire menu just yet, I can say confidently the home fries live up to the hype. I understand why they're called home fries because they reminded me of home. It looks like they're doing some renovation on the second floor, I wonder if that'll result in even more seating. This place was recommended by the locals of lake placid so we decided to give it a try. Service was a little slow but they were friendly. We both got corned beef hash and poached eggs. My side of bacon was cooked perfectly and the poached eggs were as well. The only complaint was too little meat in the hash, made up with a lot of potatoes. read more

The group in front of us told us they had been waiting 30 minutes. We were there for about 20 minutes and were never acknowledged by any staff. The pair in front of us decided not to wait anymore and left. After a few more minutes, the person at the counter told us they were short-staffed and gave me a ringer. I guess that's why there were empty tables. After waiting a few minutes outside, I realized that the place was not going to be worth waiting 30 more minutes to be served, so we left. read more

This place continues to provide a needed service to the area offering reliable diner food for breakfast and lunch at a reasonable price. Service was very slow but very friendly. My poached eggs on corned beef hash was good, and the brunch items that my colleagues ordered were fine though nothing incredible. I guess good is good enough for breakfast. The indoor space is nondescript but they have recently added a large covered deck outside which significantly expands the eating area and is pleasant on a breezy summer day. I had the canadian bacon with it, and that seemed like store bought, although it was a nice to have anyway. The place was busy, and we sat outside, having to wait a bit for service - I think if we had sat inside it would have been faster. The coffee was decent. I would recommend and would try again. We came by for breakfast and to take my in-laws to visit the site of the former Land of Make Believe that used to be here in the 1970s and 1980s. The space is a Goldilocks size - not too big and not too small. The coffee is strong but not too strong and the walls are covered In memorabilia from the Land of Make Believe. We ordered pancakes, breakfast sandwiches (grilled biscuits as the bread), and eggs with sausage. The biscuits fell apart in your mouth with flaky goodness, and the portions were hearty. Could not recommend this place enough. Excited to come back here no matter the season. read more

I come to this place to eat a hearty breakfast almost every time I'm in the Adirondacks. The staff and waitresses are all so friendly and attentive. The food portions are huge and the food is always delicious. On the weekends, they only serve their breakfast menus from opening until closing at 2pm. I have gotten their blueberry pancakes with fresh blueberries, their veggie omelets, western omelet (without cheese), trout platter. The omelet dish can easily feed 2 people. The pancakes are the size of my face (no joke) and really satisfy a craving. The only thing that I have a critique on is their coffee. I know they brew large amounts at a time to feed many customers, but it is so watered down. I wish there was a a stronger brew to go along with my hearty breakfast. read more

We enjoyed several lunches at this cafe while in Upper Jay. I enjoyed a very fresh large chef salad, of which I could only eat half. My husband enjoyed his take out fresh turkey sandwich on homemade sour dough, when he got to the bottom of Jay trailhead. The fudge is delicious. In the afternoon, we enjoyed the fudge with wine while sitting on the edge of the Ausable River bed. Our lunch the next day did not disappoint - fresh tuna salad sandwich on homemade sour dough and medium rare hamburger served on homemade gluten free bread with homemade coleslaw. I highly recommend the Adirondack Mountain Coffee Cafe. It was discovered by our Father's Day group last year at this time of year 2018. Coming here on two different occasions then was a great discovery and two of us enjoyed the food and the prices and service. This year it was THE place to eat breakfast our two hike mornings. Our group 10 on Friday and 16 on Saturday was seated promptly and enjoyed the personality of McKenzie and the assistance of the owner and co-worker from inside the restaurant. Individual checks made this experience much less taxing and the effort in doing this got us to the trails quicker. To address the food specifically, the $4.75 French Toast was outstanding. Made on sourdough bread and some additional cinnamon and what appeared to be homemade syrup it was delicious. The second day I had the cheese omelette which was filling and delicious. The hash browns were amazing and our coffee cups did not stay even half-filled for a minute. I also ordered a mixed berry pie for our dinner at our vacation rental home and it ended our night on a high note. Great place. Can't wait for next year! read more

Something for everyone, kid friendly, I go there a lot and always forget to take pictures but any that already here are perfect. Great burger cooked just like a wanted it added bacon egg onion ring and bbq sauce I was in heaven! My normal breakfast is their key west with lox caramelized onions whipped cream cheese and rye toast Tends to get busy for lunch and Sunday breakfasts which on Sunday is only breakfast all other days breakfast and lunch is always available. I stumbled on this place at lunchtime and had no idea it had such great reviews; there's no AT&T service in the area so I couldn't check Yelp. My corned beef sandwich was ok, made with packaged corned beef but generous condiments and a quality cole slaw. But obviously breakfast is the way to go here. Luckily I grabbed a sticky bun to go... excellent! Coffee is good and strong. Service is by young people doing their best, not professionals, and you may have a bit of a wait. Pass the time by looking at the peaceful vistas outside the window. By the way, google "Land of Make-Believe Jay NY" if you want to see some remarkable shots of the theme park that used to stand on this site. It opened the same year as Disneyland so it's not likely that it was Walt Disney's inspiration, but apparently its creator did some contract work for Disneyland hence the similarity. read more

We had a large group with hungry littles, during the busy morning rush. Staff were hospitable and very attentive. They offered to serve the kids first and made sure we had everything we needed. Food was delicious and well priced for the large portion sizes! I recommend the poached eggs on corned beef hash and pancakes, pumpkin if they have the special - they were mouth watering. This is going to be my favorite restaurant in Adirondack! We waited for almost an hour and a half to get seated and have our food served but it was worth the wait :) The server said it was the busiest they've been since covid happened. We ordered Blueberry Pancakes, Egg Florentine and Sausage with Biscuits and Gravy - all for only $21! It's the cheapest restaurant you can find in the Adirondack/Lake Placid area!
