Strudel realizing he's found his forever home
    Kevin Z.

I can't thank A New Life Rescue Foundation enough for bringing Strudel into my life. After losing my beloved Pancake, I was looking for a new furry friend, and Strudel has been the perfect addition. Ruth was incredibly supportive and professional throughout the entire adoption process. They made sure Strudel was a great match for my home, and you can tell how much they care about the animals they rescue. They operate out of San Diego and have a wonderful network in Mexico as well. If you're looking to adopt, I highly recommend them. They truly bring new life not only to the animals but to the families they join.

I previously gave them a 5-star review using my old account (when I adopted my first dog) but here's the update. I give them a solid 3-star now - here's why: (1) When I adopted my senior pug, he still had stitches from his neuter surgery. It had been like 6 weeks post op. Some stitches looked buried under the skin. I called Ruth and she sent a "nurse" over. A very nice lady. She brough a little kit which she said hadn't used since nursing school. She's probably in her 50's. That worried me a bit but I went ahead and had her try to remove the stitches using her scissors. Well the scissors were too dull and my dog yelped. So she and I decided to stop there and that I should contact my vet. Well ok. that happens. (2) My dog wouldn't eat. I thought he was nervous in the new environment. I waited a few weeks but then I realized his teeth were rotten. I emailed Ruth and asked if they did dental checkups and she says, "If there's something wrong with the mouth, the vet does an inspection and dental work" (See attached photo). I am shocked at this point because, how do you miss such significant dental issues when you're vetting a dog? Rotten teeth in senior rescues - shouldn't that be one of the first things (and the easiest things) you could detect? I would at least expect the rescue to be transparent at the time of adoption and inform the adoptee that the dog will need extensive dental work. I called Ruth but the conversation got rather heated, she just yelled "we NEVER do dental work!" So there you go - some conflicting information but I wanted to get my dog's teeth fixed. Ruth did agree to ask Lucy if they would authorize sending my dog to Mexico to get his teeth taken care of, and that the rescue *might* cover half of the expense. I was so fed up at this point. It's not just about the expense. Had I known my senior dog needed dental work, I would have signed him up for it THE DAY I GOT HIM. Poor guy waited for weeks for his dental to be done, which, by the way, resulted in 8 extractions. My vet (Dr. D at Paradise Vet Hospital) was in disbelief that my dog came in such a poor condition and wanted to know what rescue I got my dog from. She was also nice enough to refer us to Anicira since it would have been over $3,000 at her clinic. I wasn't going to send my senior dog, who was in pain and distress, over the border to add to the stress so I had it done at Anicira. A great clinic. I do believe Ruth and Lucy and everyone else are genuinely concerned and compassionate about the dogs. I just think they're stretched thin and aren't vetting the dogs properly. Ruth said my dog was at a home in TJ where they had 10-15 dogs. They can't give dogs any toys because they would fight over it. That's over capacity. Is it better than living on the street? Maybe. I don't really know. It just feels to me like they're doing more than what they're capable of and failing as a result.

We adopted our sweet dog from A New Life last weekend. They are an amazing organization that rescues abandoned dogs from Mexico and San Diego and finds them good, loving homes. Our sweet little dog was found abandoned on the streets in Tijuana at just 3 months old which just makes me so sad but I am so grateful that this wonderful organization saved her and that she now lives with us and will be loved and cared for forever. I appreciated that they wanted to know details about our house, our other dogs, our work schedules, etc to make sure we would be a good fit. The volunteers do really great work and I feel very good about supporting such an ethical organization. I have already recommended them to other people who are thinking about getting dogs. Rescue is always the way to go, and this is a really great organization with wonderful people who really care.

We weren't planning to get a dog for a little while longer but when I walked past this puppy at Dog Days and saw her lying on her back and batting up at her mother and sister, it all went downhill fast. Popcorn Lucy Grumbles (Poppy Lu) is family now and, except for puppy teeth and housebreaking, she's wonderful. Little dog, big attitude. We love her!

Thank you so much to Ruth and A New Life Rescue for helping my family find Jordan. I had some pretty specific things I was looking for (!) and Ruth was so committed to helping me find a pup that worked for our family. And that she did! Jordan has brought so much joy and silliness to our home in the weeks we have had him. I am so grateful to this rescue for saving my boy and bringing him to me. Overall, this rescue was wonderful in communicating with me and I appreciated having a two-week foster period to make sure all went well with the dog we already had. I have worked with other rescues before and A New Life has been my favorite so far.

My first time getting a rescue pet and they were wonderful to work with on every level. Ruth's suggestions to acclimate Violet (formerly Francesca ) into my home or right on point!! I realize now I needed her as much as she needed me thank you new life, and Ruth

I adopted one of my pups from ANLCF in January. The whole adoption process was very thorough, organized and easy to navigate. I highly recommend ANLCF for adoptions! I adore my dog Zola, and I am so thankful for the resources at ANLCF!

Proud new parents of a precious little girl.

We adopted our sweet Gracie girl from A New Life and had a wonderful experience. I contacted the organization through their website and was connected quickly to Ruth, a kind-hearted volunteer. My husband and I had a phone interview with her to see if our chosen pup would be a good fit. The process was smooth and aimed at protecting the animal and providing the adoptive parents with the right pet for them. I appreciate their love, care, and protection of their rescues. We met our precious pup on Saturday and it was love at first sight. She's the perfect addition to our family and we are blessed to call her ours. Thank you New Life for all you do to make ours and other pet parents' dreams come true! I highly recommend this incredible organize for anyone looking to adopt their next pet.

We just went through a wonderful adoption with A New Life with Ruth. She's wonderfully honest, communicative, understanding & insightful about their rescue work, their dogs & finding the right homes. I didn't think I was ready to adopt a dog quite yet after losing our long time companion & so I began to look into fostering. The organization allows you to foster to adopt if you're unsure if you're ready but can commit to at least fostering a dog until it's adoption - which I was. This was the 2nd dog I fostered & this time "failed" & got to finalize my adoption of the most wonderful little boy from Tijuana. The logistics of this rescue with their foster homes in Tijuana is efficient & the dogs appear well looked after, have all the up to date shots, medical records, neutered & are micro chipped included in the standard & appropriate adoption fee. They have wonderful people at this organization & so many wonderful dogs to align with. Thank you, Ruth! We love our Chiquito so much, he's the best!

We love our new dog! A New Life goes above and beyond anything I could have expected! Every concern was addressed. Our dog came home to our house as a foster and we fell in love with her instantly! During our foster care time they were very concerned about her health and was very involved in how she was on a daily basis. I could not be any more happy with our experience. I highly recommend this organization that does such amazing work getting dogs paired with new owners!

    Ellie!

We adopted a dog with the help of Ruth and the ANLCF rescue and are so pleased with how well it all went. Immediately following our application being filled out she was calling and did a thorough job making sure the environment we were in was set up for success of the dog we were adopting. She also helped answer questions and give guidance on everything from introducing her to our other dog in the house to giving her medication. We fostered first to make sure she was a good fit with our other dog and it has been such an easy adjustment. She was already housbroken and used to being around dogs. Her love and energy completes our family so well. We couldn't be happier with our decision to adopt Ellie (Leona) from ANLCF. We hope this inspires others to do the same.

We had a fantastic adoption experience with A New Life. We started volunteering as a foster but quickly fell in love with our pup. Ruth and team had clear communication and made the adoption process straightforward, giving the guidance we needed as new pet parents. You can tell everyone involved with the rescue is genuine and cares about the well-being of every animal, making sure they go to good homes.

According to the Triton Food Pantry Facebook page, "the mission of the Triton Food Pantry is to…read moreprovide a discreet service to UCSD students in need of food. Our goals are to ensure that every student has enough energy to get through the day and that no student needs to give up a single meal for any reason. We aim to build a network of resources and awareness about food insecurity." Food insecurity is a real thing on college campuses across the country. A Univ. of Calif. study found about 23% of UC students experienced low food security. Who doesn't recall their collegiate days where Top Ramen was a dining mainstay? But in Feb. 2015, all that changed when UCSD opened up it's Triton Food Pantry on the first floor of the old Student Center. All registered undergraduate and graduate students with a valid UCSD identification card can stop by and confidentially pick up groceries, as needed. Every student gets 10 points per week and one visit per week. With those points, they are able to select food & every item has a different value. Today, more than 250 students per week visit the Pantry. It is stocked with supplies bought in bulk at the San Diego Food Bank. Donations from students through the Swipes for the Homeless also fund the program, which allow students to donate unused dining dollars to other students in need. The Triton Pantry joins a network of other food pantries that have been established at other UC campuses throughout California. Why I gave this project 5 YELP STARS is that it is an excellent example of students, with the help of collaborative campus administrators, coming together to help other students. UCSD people: don't suffer in silence if you need some food. Go check out this Food Pantry. There is no shame in this game! :)

The Triton Food Pantry has helped me so much. It's not easy to focus on school, work, and…read morerelationships when you're hungry and not sure how you'll make rent, let alone buy groceries. The Pantry lets you come in every week and "spend" your alloted 10 points on pantry staples such as pasta, rice, beans, canned soup, protein bars, etc. Produce, which comes pretty frequently and in great condition, is free as long as you show your ID card! It may not seem like that much, but having an extra couple pounds of grains and some fresh produce really helps when you're eating ramen every day! Oh, and the staff are SUPER friendly and helpful. It's a really nice space, and I couldn't be more thankful for it. :)
