They are very friendly, communicative, informative, and thoughtful when matching their rescued "furriends" with a furever family. The process is very thorough. The adoption process was fast and thorough. The foster family we picked our new pup from was gracious and very welcoming. Once we decided to adopt, the responses from the foundation were very detailed... some would say too detailed to the point of OCD. Our puppy still needed his last round of shots. The due date for the vaccines listed was 1/20, so I made an appointment for 1/16, the day I had enough time to drive back down to San Diego. The foundation emailed me back stating that I needed to reschedule to 1/20. I'm sure that any Vet would agree that vaccinating a puppy 4 days early would do any harm, especially since he was already in the age range for his 3rd series of shots. I hate leaving a mediocre review of a foundation that pairs dogs in need with their forever home, but there is no need to be Nazi's about the whole thing with no grace period around scheduling. I doubt 100% of the adopters would be available on the exact due date. It's pretty ridiculous to not provide a date range instead of a single must-do date! read more

From my first contact with Cantu everyone I interacted with was so responsive, flexible, and professional. They are truly dedicated to finding good homes and good matches for their pups. Once I was matched with my pup they went out of their way to make the adoption process smooth and flexible. As an out of town adopter, they helped me through a more complicated than usual adoption process. When I realized at the last minute that I made the wrong flight date, the immediately moved things around so I could get my pup. My pup's wonderful foster, Natalie, even kept me company while I waited to back to the airport with my new pup. Even if you don't see a dog you want on their website, I highly recommend applying with them and waiting until the right dog comes along for you. They are an incredible organization! 9/23/22 Hello. In the last 3 weeks, I have emailed the Cantu Foundation, Left VM; submitted information on Lucia's behalf to the OC Register and the OCAC to try and figure out why they would knowingly keep a lost dog, from owner. The dog was lost or stolen on 8/24 in Whittier, was hit by a car, ending up in Orange County. The owner reported the dog missing to the shelter of jurisdiction, SEAACA Downey. ca; Pawboost; flyers and other fb pages. Around 8/29, the dog was rescued by the Cantu Foundation. The foster posted in the Yorba Linda community that she was posting 'in case anyone was looking for him' and ' looks like he had a good home', if owner not found, he would be adopted when healed from his injuries. I recognized the dog immediately as one on Pawboost Lost pages and commented publicly and private messaged the foster. She replied and said 'if it was there dog, she was open to discussions'. Initially, when I connected the owner to this foster, they were texting each other. But then, between 9/2 and 9/12, the foster would not respond. The desperate owner would message me, in tears. On the 12 th, Lucy, the owner, got a message from the Cantu foster that Chiki had been adopted. Well, a dog is not healed from a pelvic fracture in 2 weeks. The foster was not looking for an owner, but clearly just wanted accolades for fostering, in my opinion. After I had left a message for the Cantu Foundation, I was then blocked on messenger? This owner raised Chiki from 2 days old and bottle fed him. She feels he is like a son to her. Her own young son was murdered in May, in a failed car-jacking . Please urge the foundation to respond to the owner. The court of public opinion is not kind. I have all of the supportive screenshots, photos, emails, messenger texts etc to back this up. Cantu Foundation, please do the right thing and return Chiki to Lucy! read more

I fostered and successfully placed two foster dogs into homes with this organization. The third dog I took in I actually wanted to adopt but she had not yet had her wellness exam so I let them know I would give me answer once she was checked out by the vet and acclimated. Apparently after fostering with them for months they couldn't give me 2 extra days to wait for a wellness exam. A volunteer came to pick up the dog from my house and dropped the dog where I grabbed the dog and she clung to me. I then said I will adopt her since I did not want to put the dog through anymore hardship to which she said "I do not think Fatima would like that." I called Fatima and she told me it would no longer be an option. So they would rather put a poor dog through a more traumatic experience than let someone adopt her that has fostered with them numerous times before because of a disagreement on an adoption timeline. We just adopted our second rescue dog, and I was very impressed with Cantu Foundation!! Our first dog is from a rescue in Alabama that just had us sign some paperwork. However, when looking for our second dog, Cantu Foundation scheduled time to meet with the pup beforehand to ensure everyone was happy, called references to speak on our abilities as dog parents, checked with our vet, and did a home tour. Came across this foundation's Instagram and happened to fall in love with a dog. Had a great experience in the process of adopting and the people who I was communicating with, like the foster and Ashlyn. Shortly after adopting our new little family member, he had a little medical issue. We decided to take him to the same vet the foundation took him to (just because we were not familiar with vets in the area and this particular vet already had our dog's records). Despite calling the vet ahead of time to make an appointment and inform them that we had adopted the dog they had treated and we would be covering any medical fees, the foundation was charged for his appointment fee. I received a very unprofessional call from Fatyma (I did not appreciate her calling me "girl" as if she knew me on a personal level). She was very upset that the foundation was charged a fee (which is understandable because at that point, I had taken financial responsibility for my dog). However, I did not find it necessary for her to direct her frustrations towards me. I assured her, any fee associated with my dog would be paid by me and any mixup was clearly the vet's office mistake. read more
