We had heard that Mutt Scouts needed foster parents, especially during the summer. We've always wanted to help this organization because of their outstanding efforts to save dogs. From start to adoption, Mutt Scouts was amazing. They made everything easy by arranging all the transport of the puppies to my house, dropping off a starter kit, and giving me the medical history and personality profiles of the puppies. When the puppies arrived in our home, there was the usual getting to know period and the puppies quickly became a part of my family. Mutt Scouts staff was always available to answer my questions (which I had a lot of) and within the 1st week, the 1st puppy got adopted. It warmed our hearts to see the puppy meet their forever family and it made us feel great. By the 2nd week, the 2nd puppy was adopted to her forever home. The lessons my kids learned from taking care of these dogs and doing something to make the world a better place will carry over into their adulthood. I started following Muttscouts on Instagram at the beginning of quarantine. I had been thinking about fostering for a while so I finally sent an application. I was hopeful. I love animals! And now I had so much free time - much like every other person who is now sitting at home trying to find ways to fill the monotony of too much free time. BUT of course I had to talk my life partner into the decision. He was on the fence because he was sure I (we) would be a foster fail. Fortunately some time passed before I heard back from them. Honestly I think enough time passed that I sent a second application. Obviously they receive a lot of emails- couldn't hurt to showcase my eagerness It was just enough time for me to formally put together my pitch "Why we would be the greatest foster parents" Our dog would be the the best big brother AND the best teacher. We love animals. We have a yard. We will be a part of a community of like minded people...Those who unselfishly and selflessly put the needs of animals before their own. Needless to say -He was sold. I received an email about finding a good time for setting up a virtual home visit and immediately responded. YES YES- I'm free now ! The Muttscouts interviewer was lovely and talked me through the whole process for fostering. She answered all my questions and concerns. And She told me about the dog she had in mind for us. YES OF COURSE we were ALMOST a foster fail. Our very first foster dog was an absolute angel. She was amazing. And we all fell in love with her. We watched her come out of her shell- and blossom from a terrified puppy who wouldn't leave the corner into a full on girl dog with confidence walking on the leash running free with the wind in her hair. After she was adopted- I cried for about three days. And immediately reached out to sign up for another foster. Fostering has been such a gift- and I am super grateful of the community of people I have met over these months From some of the volunteers down in San Diego, to potential adopters, other foster mamas and dog lovers who follow the journey of my fosters. I really look forward to the next puppy whose life we get to be a part of- even tho the crying in front of strangers part is super uncool. Our son bonded immediately with Vegas (female puppy) , filling our hearts with joy, though we were crestfallen to learn of the unexpected $550 adoption fee after the fact. We are deeply disappointed that Mutt Scouts did not relay this critical monetary requirement beforehand, especially knowing so many good dogs await families who have ample love to give but limited means. Going forward, we genuinely hope Mutt Scouts will reconsider fees that sadly put adoption out of reach for caring homes like ours. read more

Our rep. reached out and asked some great follow up questions to ask exactly what our family was looking for. After looking on Pet Finder I knew they didn't have a dog that met our hopes at that time. A week or two later, the same individual reached out to me and asked if we would be interested in a female dog that hit everything on our list. We were able to meet her in person at her incredible foster's home. We were in love and couldn't wait to bring her home. The process with this team has been seamless. I had been wanting a dog for awhile now and I knew I wanted to adopt a dog rather than buy one from a breeder, so I filled out an application for with Mutt Scouts! I got put in touch with Brook who helped find some dogs who could potentially get along with my not so friendly cat. Brook found a gorgeous shepherd mix and I appreciated her honesty when she told us that this dog's history with cats was unknown. However she allowed us to foster the dog to make sure she could do well in our home. After the second day, I knew I wanted to adopt her! The Mutt Scouts are real-life superheroes. They save the "unsave-able" animals -- the most devastating cases and they help these animals to heal, physically and emotionally and then into the best homes ever. Mutt scouts has literally changed my life in the best way possible. 2 years ago my wife sent them a message on instagram asking if they needed any volunteers. 1 week later she was driving 4 dogs up from San Diego, and 1 of those is still sitting on my couch today. The work the women at Mutt Scouts do is perfect. Their only goal is to help get dogs better homes. Whether that is a foster for a medical dog going through 10 surgeries to repair a face destroyed by fireworks (sad but real), or finding a shivering puppy on the street in TJ and bringing him into our lives, everything they do is to for the dogs. It is rare in this world that you find a group of people so dedicated to doing good. I have seen first hand how hard they work at all hours of the day and night and am grateful to be associated with them (through my wife and adopted little mutt). We had a horrible and unprofessional experience in our attempt to adopt a puppy from Mutt Scouts. We were looking for a new dog as we had to put down our Lab who was 14+ years old. Our other dog was very lonely and we were ready for another family member. Our other dog had previously been aggressive to other dogs. We put him through several training classes in addition to a 4-week boot camp. He's been much better but he's selective in the dogs he likes. We communicated this to Mutt Scouts and agreed to a plan where we would first bring our dog to the fostering home and see how they got along. If this went well then they would bring the dog to our house to see if there was any aggressive behavior. The meeting at the foster home went great and we set a date for them to bring the dog to our house. I received a text message the day before the meeting at our house stating that they have a lot of dogs returned to them with behavioral issues after one year. They were now unwilling to allow us to have the meeting at our house. They proposed that we meet with their trainer to help them figure out why they are getting so many dogs returned. Then they would help us find another dog. This was devastating to us as we fell in love with the puppy we met. We have since adopted another puppy from a more professional and better manager rescue. I do not recommend Mutt Scouts. Proceed with an abundance of caution if you attempt to work with them. Frankly, they have no right being in the pet adoption business. read more

It was love at first sight when I saw the photo of this little rescued mama doggy. So furry, so sweet, "Gabby Grumps" was found along with her puppies in an abandoned building in Tijuana and rescued by The Mutt Scouts earlier this summer. It was only serendipitous when another potential adopter changed her mind at the last minute and WE were able to adopt her. Mutt Scouts went out of their way to make a home visit to determine if we were a good fit, we paid a nominal adoption fee, and our paperwork was processed quickly. My dad had been in the hospital and the rescue organization knew that time was of the essence. In my father's declining state, he kept asking to see a doggy. The day after we adopted her, we brought her to the hospital. The little bundle of furry joy bonded with my dad instantly, just as she had with my young 6-year old son. Such a gentle little soul who undoubtedly led a hard life up until the point she was rescued, "Gabby Grumps" (now named "Little Lulu") brought such comfort and calm and happiness to our family. Through my father's final days, she remained by his side. I am forever grateful to The Mutt Scouts for placing this beautiful, sweet, loving dog in our care. THE BEST rescue and adoption organization!! They rescue dogs, often times from pretty awful situations and/or that no one else will take, and provide wonderful, loving homes with amazing fosters who bring the dogs into their homes and treat them as their own, until they can find the pups their forever home. They nurse dogs back to health, if needed, and will help deliver liters and keep the mother with the puppies as long as possible until their they're adopted. The fosters are so sweet and thorough and make it their mission to find just the right home for each dog. Mutt Scouts is the reason I have my angel!!! My adoption process via Mutt Scouts was excellent. I adopted my dog Pippi in March of this year and despite the global pandemic, every step of the process was smooth! My adoption counselor, Amelie, was kind and supportive, as was Pippi's foster mom. Pippi was rescued from Mexico with a broken leg - Mutt Scouts nursed her back to health and made sure all of her injuries were taken care of. She was still limping when I took her home and we communicated the entire time. Mutt Scouts stayed invested in my dog and still is. They help so many pups in dire circumstances, rehab them and find them loving homes. I will be forever grateful for Mutt Scouts. My partner and I had been trying to adopt a puppy for a little over a year, and were met with roadblock after hurdle after roadblock. Los Angeles is such a dog-friendly city, and puppies are in high demand--we weren't prepared for how competitive it could get. We had some bad encounters with other "rescues", promises that fell through, or restrictions from our building that left us feeling like we may never get the puppy of our dreams. Enter Mutt Scouts. When we applied to adopt with them in March, the puppy we wanted was unavailable, but Mutt Scouts didn't forget about us. The next time a litter came through, they kept us in the loop, and we were able to take our puppy, Bingo, home with us on July 1st. Mutt Scouts vets (no pun intended) everyone who applies to adopt, doing a home check in addition to having potential adopters fill out a lengthy application. Bingo's foster was incredible, too! Once we knew he was ours, she sent us pictures and videos of him while we waited for him to be old enough to take home. We even got to visit him twice to get him used to us. The work they do to save dogs of all ages and conditions is just unbelievable. We cannot imagine our lives without our puppy, and will spread the good word of Mutt Scouts to anyone who will listen. read more

Adopted a puppy from here that came almost completely unvetted. Their website states that prior to dogs being placed into foster homes, "each animal is spayed or neutered, vaccinated and microchipped, thoroughly checked by a trusted veterinarian, and medical care provided when needed." Well, ours had a single round of DHPP, and that was it. The foster mom had paid for the next round. Mutt Scouts still insisted her "adoption" fee was $300, plus $50 spay deposit. For a spay they refused to do. Our puppy was 5 months old, plenty old enough to be spayed, but they kept insisting they wouldn't spay or provide any further medical care for her. That was all on our tab. But, they did offer to give us the name of their vet, so we could get all the vet work that was supposed to be included in the $300 for a discounted rate. How kind. We continued to point out that their website says this is included, and was told this had been their policy for 10+ years and that no one else had ever had a problem. I mentioned that the local animal shelter charged $150 for puppies, that you know, actually are spayed, microchipped, have all their shots and rabies and they said they were a rescue, they couldn't afford to do that. So if you want to pay $300 for a dog that doesn't come with anything promised and pay for it all yourself, this is the place for you. read more
