Grandma's determination finally got me to submit (this stellar review)- Lou and his crew were careful, methodical, deliberate, and fast with their service. During the Thanksgiving holiday window they picked up several roomfuls of furniture and art from my Grandma's house in New Jersey and delivered the property to Virginia without leaving behind damage or packaging. As I am active duty in the USN, it is difficult to coordinate with service providers during g work hours. Lou and his guys met me on a Saturday morning. They delivered a truckload of furniture in just a couple hours. As an added challenge, my (basement) apartment is down a narrow, steep, concrete staircase and the entrance is through my kitchen. A two part review... Met up with Lou Pensa back in April to get a free estimate for our moving needs. First off was what we were taking from our home. Then I had to escort him to the storage unit that we've been using since last November. Our move took place over a couple of days. An hour and 1/2 with four guys for the storage unit on Monday. It was two offloading the 12 x 10 space, while the other two uploading their truck. Then this past Wednesday 5 guys took care of our home. The key here is getting that Parking permit that was recommended by Lou. It only cost us $30 for the day. If you don't have a driveway and or garage this is definitely the way to go. It was right in front of our home and good from 8-4. Only took them another 3 hours total to empty out the house and delivery to our new condo. Butch was the chief both days and did a fabulous job with his crew along with Carlos, Carlito and Mike. Thanks guys for making this an easy move. read more

We have used them in the past and have been very satisfied with their service and pricing. However, they recently moved us from one apartment to another apartment on the same floor. We were given an estimate that an apartment of three rooms of furniture would take 4 men half a day or 4 hours. In good faith, we paid $955. for the job. When the men came, they showed up without any wardrobe boxes for our clothes or any boxes for packing our kitchen/ bathroom items. The men tried to help and threw some kitchen items into two of their trollers , but left the remainder of our kitchen, bathroom and obviously our clothes for us to move. The total time that the movers were here was 2 1/2 hours! We have given them a lot of business over the years, and feel that they sent their workers unprepared and unless they were including time to help us pack, the estimate was way off base. They moved me from fort lee nj to Franklin storage in Franklin. See attached photo my boxes marked fragile are on the bottom right. I moved to iowa and was told by pensa they aren't responsible for damages since another company moved me even though I called the less than a month after move to Franklin and told dennis that they put boxes on top of my boxes marked fragile. A lot of my belongings I have had for forty years are destroyed thanks to pensa. I went on the second movers truck and saw all my fragile boxes on top of load Not bottom like pensa did. Pensa Mover drank my vodka in the morning of my move. My bad for giving away alcohol that was used to clean my fish tank. I use to work there too and they did this to me. We have been delayed in writing this review but finally have an opportunity! The crew was a pleasure to work with from start to finish. Estimate to packing to moving.. we could not have asked for a better and more professional experience. They were timely, present, flexible, hardworking from start to finish. We had to get creative due to a malfunctioning service elevator and a stairwell too small for the sofa, but they delivered and were able to get all out without damage. (Old school method over balcony). I cannot recommend the team enough! read more

I am a military brat and understand the heavy pains of moving. I also have the lovely job of running offices and have coordinated to office moves in my life which is even MORE painful. Lucky for me, I had Pensa (Lou) as my moving team which made everything a DREAM! First, I called for a quote and Lou was at my office within hours. Unllike the others who came in for a quote, he looked at each office carefully, recognized the custom made desk for the CEO would have to be broken down a special way and rigged out of the window for a safe and scratch-less move. He also spoke in detail about moving IT, the copy machine and very valueless art. I would not say Pensa is the lease expensive, or the most expensive, but I WILL say, you get what you pay for... which is the most perfect, flawless and least amount of pressure and stress a move could EVERY BE. Lou not only contacted me constantly about the move, he coordinated the move with the building manager of the new location, our IT company and the furniture company who created and installed our desks and cabinets! We rescheduled our move because our building was not ready, and though we were freaking out, he had every plan for every scenario you could think of. He also has a contact for rigging, and coordinated the rig and glazier!!! Dude, I did nothing but stress about the new building being completed on time. Other than that - Lou and the guys did the rest. Oh - and the furniture/moving company for the custom desk and such helped move the day Pensa came over and they all worked together so well! it was like they had worked together for 20 years, which also helped the move go quickly and smoothly. This company is honest, trustworthy, professional, patient and just a great crew. Nothing was stolen, scratched or broken. When I first contacted Louis from APensa, he was very upfront about everything. He explained the process of what we would need and even offered to work with our respective leasing agents to facilitate any paperwork they needed. We booked a time to review our place and give an overall estimate. He was prompt, courteous and wearing a mask! He gave us a very reasonable quote and offered his assistance getting us in touch with the city for our traffic requirement. The day of the move, his team was a little delayed (30 minutes) but this was because of the snowstorm just 2 days before. Once they arrived, they were quick, cautious and all exhibited a great sense of humor. They were in and out, no broken items, no scratches or issues and were within their estimate. I have nothing but great things to say about this experience and will look forward to using these guys services again! read more

Avoid! Problems throughout the process and fed up with no resolution over a broken table that is not being repaired and returned as promised: 1) Have to chase and chase - to get an estimate, to confirm move date shortly in advance, etc. which I dealt with only since they came highly recommended [though it was from the Richter side that was bought out or merged into A Pensa Movers] 2) Broke and scratched stuff and impossible to deal with over claims/repair - my transformer table has a broken frame where a leg attaches (put on side in the truck with no removal of the legs), overstacked piles moving out luckily only resulted in 1 broken wine bottle in a clearly labeled wine box labeled with "GLASS" (luckily not the whole case), plus minor scratches on furniture similar to other movers. This is followed by avoidance in filing an insurance claim and agreeing only to get the table repaired; I chased to get the owner to even discuss the broken table and wine bottle, chased more after waiting over 2 months never coming to pick it up as promissed "when his crew is in the area", chasing after yet another 2 months after pickup for a status and to get the table back AND NEVER CALLS ME BACK. I am missing my table and they can't be bothered which forced me to file complaints seeking resolution as they are not following through. 3) Paid top dollar (highest quote I received by far but I wanted to minimize my hassles) and didn't get the service paid for - min 8 hours contract and they screwed me forcing unloading of the truck when my contractor was blocking the stairway to the basement (was replacing sheetrock above the stairs when the truck arrived). I said to wait and eat into my paid for 8 hours of move time or they would have to put stuff that should go to the basement down closest to the door in the garage leading towards the basement and then move it down there when they could access it. They seemed to agree and then screwed me saying once they put down an item they won't pick it up again, despite explicitly stating various items need to go to the basement before unloading anything and as items were coming off the truck. Those 8 hours min were not even close to being used up and my contractor bribed the reluctant movers to do essentially a 2nd move. Secondly, I paid for them to pack the kitchen and some stuff was very nicely packaged but then TONS of stuff was haphazardly tossed into boxes leaving open food packages spilling out all over inside the boxes plus knives and other sharp items loose and dangerous to unpack. Bear in mind that the moving crew never had to even stage anything on upper floors of the house since the flooring and carpeting wasn't done yet up there! read more

I can't say enough good things about them. I had an emergency situation where I had a fridge that had to be moved ASAP. Not only did they come out last minute, but they squeezed me in between jobs. They brought the fridge inside, got it to the kitchen (not a easy feat), and turned it upright for me. They were a huge relief for me and I would highly recommend them. I have used other mover, much less expensive, in the past. They were more efficient and I never had an issue. Be careful of their minimum hours charge. Also, read the contract very carefully, unlike other companies, they add a lot of BS surcharges. I got them to get rid of most of them. The job took half the time of their estimate and they still charged the full amount of estimate. The drivers showed up bragging they would finish in half the time, they did and in the process carelessly broke several items. They do not put the boxes in the correct rooms even though they are clearly marked. They are extremely expensive and not reliable. You are better off with a less expensive option. I moved several times and this is the worst experience I have had. read more

Guys moved quickly and got the move done in under the estimated time but my hardwood floors were completely scratched up in the new apt and many pictures were damaged and a mirror was completely broken. I sent the company am email with pictures and they didn't even reply with comments or an apology. I am disappointed to say the least. read more

I cannot write enough positive things about my experience with Pensa Movers. I moved on Saturday, 8/27, the weekend that Hurricane Irene hit New Jersey. Pensa's team of four movers arrived at my condo on time at 9 am and had finished packing up the truck by 10:30. They were quick, careful, considerate, and professional. Two weeks before I moved, Lou Pensa came to my home to give me an estimate. Three days later, moving boxes were delivered. And on the day of the move, all I had to do was sit back and relax. It was wonderful to have such a stress-filled event in the very capable hands of this moving company. My furniture is in storage, and I'll be going to my final destination on November 1st. This company is amazing! We were looking for a moving company and Pensa came highly recommended to us by family. This was a different kind of move because we were bringing my stepdad with us to live together. We needed to move 2 apartments into our new home which I thought would be so difficult; Not for Pensa! We met with Lou, he quoted the job and it was a very reasonable price t everything they provided so we booked the date. They provided boxes and tape so we could begin to pack. They had TWO teams to do the move itself. Moving is never easy but buying a new home makes for so many more moving parts in the process. We needed to move the date twice and Pensa switched the dates without issue. They were there for us every step of the way. The price was right, the service was great and I would recommend them 10 times out of 10! But I got charged extra because their insane manager was back at the office screaming at them (I could literally hear him through the phone) to charge me starting at 830 AM (when they arrived at the building) as opposed to 9 AM (when they started the move and when my building allowed them in). Not a huge difference but cost me $100. I probably would not use them again unless in a pinch. read more

My girlfriend and I made 2 moves into the same apartment in Hoboken from both in and out of Hoboken. She had used Pensa Modern Movers in the past and had a good experience. I did the estimates with Lou Pensa and I supervised both moving days. And I cannot say enough about how professional and thorough and thoughtful all of the guys were.
