I've been a patient of Dr. Grivas for many years, and I've always been impressed at his level of service, the quality of his work, and his willingness to answer questions. I always leave informed not only about the procedure, but also why the procedure is the best possible option. The fillings he's done have lasted a long time and still look nice. I was in tears, visibly shaking and extremely nervous throughout my crown procedure. Over the last 20 years, every time I've had something done at the dentist, I've requested nitrous as I have a serious aversion to procedures and needles. At every other office, I've been given nitrous for 5-10 minutes to help ensure I'm comfortable and calm BEFORE anyone comes near my mouth. As the assistant was placing the mask on my face, he was gloving up to administer the Novocain. At that point I said "oh no- that already? I'm deathly afraid of needles and the nitrous hasn't hit yet." He very impatiently told me to take a couple breaths as he sat over me, needle in hand. After a minute, he told me to open and he gave me the shot. This all occurred within the first 3 minutes of my interaction with Grivas, and didn't start things well. At this point, my nerves were through the roof. I was visibly shaking, and that's when it got the best of me and I stared to cry (who cries at the dentist?! I can cross that off my bucket list.). Immediately my nose got stuffed up, and guess what you can't feel, if you can't breathe through your nose?! Nitrous. Everything just started going downhill at this point. He started to get on me about not breathing through my mouth because it was "toxic for them" if I didn't. So I was breathing as best as I could through my nose- not very efficiently, but I was breathing, to appease his request. He got frustrated with me and took my protective eyewear off because he needed to see my eyes since he didn't think I was breathing deeply enough (understandable, in case I passed out in my attempts to be a perfect patient for him & rush through our procedure by barely breathing nitrous through a stuffed nose from him making me cry. *eye roll*). Now, the MAIN reason I was there was to have an amalgam removed safely- eyewear is necessary to avoid the toxic dust from the drill. When I asked for glasses, he got mad! Finally his assistant understood why I was asking for them and got a clear pair so they could see my eyes and still have me protected. All of this was a disaster and I felt so vulnerable. It felt like my comfort level was of zero importance to him and that any delay to ensure that the nitrous had adequate time to kick in in the beginning, was a terrible inconvenience to him, yet would have prevented everything that transpired afterward. When we were halfway through a crown (appx 10-15 mins later) he turned off my nitrous. I asked at that point what was left to do (he said to create & put the crown in my mouth) and felt my anxiety over the situation come rushing back. I started crying silently again, not sure what to expect. I told him I was nervous and he said that that was when they shut off the nitrous. No "sorry, let's get you comfortable" or "I understand you're nervous" just, that's the end of it. I calmly told him I was a wreck and that this was turning out to be the worst experience at a dentist (complete lack of compassion) and what did he say?! He told me to "CALM DOWN!!". First, I wasn't belligerent, or out of line. I was nervous & had requested nitrous to help with my nerves and didn't understand why, with tears streaming down my face, he didn't keep me in a comfortable place for the time I was in his chair. What I was asking for wasn't out of bounds and any compassionate Dentist would have seen I was struggling/continued to struggle through the procedure. Is turning off the nitrous and telling a patient to "calm down" when she says she's upset the best way to handle things? Not if you want to avoid reviews like this. 5+ stars for his office staff. I had entered thinking I may have found a new dentist office for my family and left with tears streaming down my face in front of the entire waiting room. There are so many other great dentists in this town. Save yourself the potential of sub-par care from Grivas, and go to someone else. ALSO- THEY HAVE A SIGN THAT SAYS FOR EVERY "5 STAR REVIEW" you give on social media, they'll enter you to win free Zoom teeth whitening". So take those 5 Star reviews with a grain of self-serving salt. read more

I only wish I still had Dr. Grivas as my dentist. I moved away from Sacramento seven years ago and I've been to a few dentists and still have not found anyone who comes close to his professionalism, quality of care and ongoing dental health that I found when I was his patient when I lived in Sacramento. i have severe dental problems from an injury as a child so dental care is a huge deal for me. I wish I could somehow still get my dental care from him and I've actually considered buying airline tickets to just visit him. I found Dr. Grivas through a Delta Dental provider search and was encouraged by the information I found on his website. I had left my previous dental office right before COVID because for years they had misdiagnosed something that caused me discomfort and wasn't cosmetically pleasing. By the time I was able to see Dr. Grivas I was convinced I would need major work done and was super anxious. Dr. Grivas assured me he could correct the problem and it would only take him one visit. He also gave me practical things I could do in the meantime to help with the discomfort. I've now had the work done and couldn't be more thrilled with the result! The discomfort is gone and my smile has been restored. I have additional dental work to do but know I'm in good hands with Dr. Grivas and his staff! read more

Let me begin with stating that this review is in no regards to the services provide by the dentists Scott Grivas or William Koett. The dentists are both phenomenal and deserve 5 stars. Unfortunately this is in regards to the receptionist/front desk woman. Wendy is great, she is professional, courteous, welcoming and has great patient interaction. The other receptionist Karen is awful. She calls me to tell me I have an outstanding bill of $1300 and of course this is the first time I'm ever hearing about this so I needed to get to the bottom of it esp. when I haven't been there since January of 2019. Regardless of the details I obviously was blindsided by the bill and I needed to know the date of service, the service billed etc. her overall tone, communication, and delivery was terrible and unprofessional. She put the blame on me for not responding to prior emails that I still never seen. Threatened to put it in collections and in general wasn't doing her job. I specifically told her she needs to help me resolve this by contacting my insurance and she said and I quote "that's not my job. You call them" so I felt unappreciated as a patient, a big burden was on my shoulders bc who would want a bill for $1300 in a surprise attack? Esp. When the insurance should be taking care of it. Again, if after all the research was done on my end and it turns out I do in fact owe that much then fine I'll deal with it accordingly. However I wasn't given the courtesy nor the respect every patient deserves esp. when it comes to resolving large balances. These women represent the dentists' themselves. It's a shame; I love Dr. Koett and Dr.Grivas they are the best but I would never come here again if that meant I have to deal with something like this in return. read more

I love the entire Dr. Grivas office staff. They all work extremely well together and appreciate all that they do. This particular review is about Elise, a dental hygienist that is amazing. I walked into the procedure a little nervous because of what I perceived would be painful, but came out an extremely happy camper. I was told by Elise that there may be pain here and there for the next day or two, but, within minutes to hours after the procedure, there is literally zero pain or discomfort. Dr Grivas does 5 star work. He is conservative with my teeth, doing the minimum work so as to keep my teeth the longest possible. I have had other dentist that take the smallest thing and they want "fix" it. When I moved to Cameron Park I went to a local Dentist. He recommend I fix 7 cavities. I took the long drive to my Dentist in Sacramento for a second opinion. "Your teeth look good" Wait I was told I needed 7 cavities fixed! Dr "Nonsense look at the x rays. They are tiny pin holes of a cavity it's better to just observe them.If you fill them now you won't have much in the way of teeth for the long hual" How about this really large filling I have with a piece missing? " Here are your x rays from today and here is a ten year old x ray. Looks about the same. Here is a four year old x ray and that little chip missing on your x ray looks exactly the same. I'll keep an eye on it and when it starts to deteriorate I'll fix and crown it" That wasn't Dr Grivas but Dr Grivas is similar in that respect but also mercury free. My other conservative dentist before Dr Grivas did amalgam filings. He thought they were safe.He died of cancer in his sixties so I'm going to play it safe and go mercury free. Why the 4 stars? I worked up a plan with Wendy at the front office. We had paid off our last interest free loan for dental work. We made an agreement as to the most pressing items for my wife and I. It was for $7200. I had a credit line of $6500.00 I said Let me get back to you. I'll see about raising my limit or I'll pay the difference. I had limit raised and I had work done two mornings over one week.When I went to schedule my wife I asked for total $ for the both of us it was $9200. We agreed on $7200.? Well you needed the work done and that's only 700.00 more then your 8500.00 available. This is the second time I was told one price and got something different. Go to Grivas he is very good. Get any estimates in writing first. I'm shopping for a new dentist as I love Dr Grivas but I can't get past two consecutive billing errors. I could follow my own advice and get it in writing first but twice was enough. read more

It had been years since I had gone to the dentist and I was really nervous and of course just wanted to make sure I chose the right place. I was just trying to find someone closest to me that could actually PERFORM wisdom teeth removal and I found the greatest little office ever! The staff, EVERYONE in that office is outstanding. I had so much support before, during, and after my surgery. I was crying and shaking, extremely terrified and they stopped what they were doing, asked me questions to figure out what they could do in that moment to make me more comfortable and relaxed. One person came in and held my hand until I was super loopey and I could feel another person holding my hand while the surgery continued. They constantly spoke to you telling you you're doing great I just love this place. DR. Tad who did the surgery called me every so often just to check up on my recovery progress, even the front desk assistants (Karen and Wendy) asked how I was feeling when they saw me next. On top of all of this the office is just so neat, clean and professional. I love this office and am so glad that I found it. I will be going here for the rest of my life. read more

I was looking for a holistic mercury free dentist since I needed to have some mercury amalgams removed and the teeth restored without using metal. Dr Grivas is very qualified and I was also pleased to find out that he uses the CEREC machine which enables him to create crowns in-house so a mold does not have to be sent out to a lab requiring you to come back in a couple of weeks. So, I was able to have the total procedure completed with the ceramic crowns put in all in one session. This was my first experience with this "one appointment" system and it was great.
