I just ate the worst chicken fried rice of my life. The chicken was so bad it was actually *fascinating* and I felt an urge to return to the establishment not to return my food (although I should have done that too), but just to quiz them on how they managed to make something that was, sadly, definitely "chicken" not bear any substantive resemblance to the thing it purported to be. My theory is that they got really cheap sliced chicken breast from a deli, then left it in brine for a few weeks, then fried it up with plain old yellow rice. No vegetables anywhere. No real seasoning or spice. Nothing. Yellow rice and slimy, rubbery chicken that I tried to labor through but eventually just picked out. I feel violated in that way that only scarily bad takeout can make you feel. Even if I don't die from this food, I seriously doubt starvation can make me return to Shen Zhou. read more

These dudes are the only reason I'm still alive! I used to order 3 times a week minimum, the Singapore mai fan if I'm not mistaken. This poor little fella would cruise my food over in the freezing tempests of February and I'd tip him like twenty bucks. His cold, dead eyes didn't even react as he was clearly questioning a lot of things about life. He'd just cruise off into the fog of Normandy, every delivery like the awful next. The other night I called as they were closing to see if they'd take an order that I planned to brave the streets to come and pick up. They not only took my order but delivered it as well. Not the greatest quality food, and I'm sure it's all loaded with MSG, but that's pretty much what you'd expect at any Chinese place. I really don't understand when I see bad reviews of this place. That being said, here's what I KNOW about it. Shen Zhou is the best in Bushwick without a doubt. I've been ordering from them for years and years and it's ALWAYS great. The veggies are always crispy, the food is fresh and spiced nice. Sometimes when I have a cold, I order Miso soup, Kung Poa Chicken (which isn't on the menu for some reason ), and a side of steamed brocolli with garlic sauce and the next day my cold is gone! Sushi is pretty damn good too and as far as I can remember, I've gotten the same delivery guy and he's always smiling and he waves at me whenever he sees me around town. Support these folks. As far as cheap Asian food goes, this is my spot. For what it is, the quality is consistent -- relatively fresh veggies, a little on the greasy side. I always get the small portions of veggie lo mein and General Tso's tofu which last me for at least two meals. It comes out to $8. Honestly, I really miss Beijing Garden, which was cheaper, less greasy and more fresh, but Shen Zhou is a decent replacement. I've only had their non-fish sushi (cucumber roll, sweet potato tempura roll, etc) and it's been consistently good. Fairly cheap, too. read more

Have American, Japanese, and Chinese dishes, and they have a really great lunch special from open to 3:30 pm every day. Deliver until at least 11:00 pm. I just ordered lunch from them. General Tso's chicken, white rice and vegetables with garlic sauce, can of pepsi. The general tso's was sooo breaded and mostly the crispy friedness. there were a lot of pieces of just fried breading in the sauce. which there was a lot of (but it was hot (temp)). There were a few pieces of broccoli in the chicken too and that was fine but one of them im pretty sure it tasted like it was steamed and then fell on a disinfected countertop and then put in the container (at least it tasted disinfected?). i expected the steamed vegetables to be IN garlic sauce, not garlic sauce on the side... i guess it was an alright mistake to make, as they were easily enough combined but wow...that garlic sauce was ridiculously garlicky and i didn't eat it because of this. sad because i've ordered from them before and it was decent. not amazing but i would've given 3 stars if it weren't for this experience... read more

Wow. very disappointing experience. I ordered a meal plus soup, and spoke very clearly with my info. The place is 2 blocks from my apt and I wasn't attempting to eat this "food" for 70 minutes. I called a few times in between and was rushed off the phone disdainfully or totally ignored. Meanwhile, the delivery man was not given the correct phone number and attempted several times to deliver it but couldn't. Literally the worst sushi I have ever had. This is coming from a person who almost daily ate cheaper sushi in my last neighborhood, sushi that my more upscale friends wouldn't eat a second time. First time here I had something along the lines of spicy tuna with crunch which was so bad I couldn't finish it. I winced eating it. Second time I decided to go more basic with salmon avocado and tuna cucumber. Just as bad. It wasn't just "not fresh" it was worse than grocery store sushi, which I will eat on occasion. I also got the pork fried rice for five bucks, which came with wings. I normally live on leftovers and almost never throw food out, but I had to throw this out. Horrible service and stole my money - check your delivery order before paying!!! I called in a simple order - one combo dinner and one entre. The person who took my order spoke very poor English and it was very loud, but I hoped for the best. The delivery showed up 35 minutes later, but only one order was in the bag. I told the very nice delivery person that it only looked like half of the order and he called for me but could not understand his boss, so handed me the phone. I also could not understand - I don't think that it was in English. I paid for it anyways because we were starving and when we got inside and opened it up it was the wrong order - not at all the healthy food we ordered. We called but no one answered. We called again 10 minutes later and no one answered. We went and got falafel because we could not eat the fried food that they sent. An hour later we finally go through, and I was told that it was too long ago (even though they would not pick up the phone). They then said that I did not order what I said, and that if I brought the uneaten food back in they would give me "one california roll". They would not make anything else right, but repeatedly offered me "one california roll" in exchange for the uneaten shrimp. I am not making this up! I asked for her name and when I could not understand it I asked for her to spell it. She said that she could not. I asked for her boss, she said that he was not there. I asked for his name and phone numbers. She said "I don't think so". She then said that we got what we ordered, and then hung up.
