I started reading comic books about four years ago. Upon first walking into Comic Quest, I was greeted by a welcoming atmosphere and a genuine desire to share something cool with people. This is our second visit to the store. On our first visit we were told by the gentleman working on 11/29/12 that the action figures on the Green Lantern series were $10.00 each and that the DC Universe action figures were $15.00 which made sense because they are generally five dollars apart on Walmart, online, and Toys R Us. When we returned on 12/10/12 we were told the action figures were $20.00 and could not be dropped to those prices that I had been quoted earlier. This upset my husband greatly being that this was a 35 minute drive and he has cancer which made for an uncomfortable ride for him. We also asked to speak with the owner and we were told he was on the phone and she did not know where he was and when he would return. read more

I know my comic book stores and this is definitely one of the better ones I've been into. It's clean, well-kept, and well-organized. The guys behind the counter are casual and easy to chat with, which is nice especially when you're female and/or have questions. (Let's not pretend we womenfolk aren't still treated with some awe when in a comic book shop.) I found everything I was looking for easily (New 52 Wonder Woman fix and some lesser known stuff) and even the patrons were good for a chat while I browsed. tralalalala! Non-comic book loving girlfriends of comic book loving men rejoice! There are plenty of things to entertain you in this store while your man gets his comic book on. If you're still not interested after reading this review, there's a salon next door. XD But seriously, Comic Quest is one of the more nice and larger comic book stores I've been to. Not dingy at all and more along the lines of something you'd see in a movie of a more indie version of the comic book store on The Big Bang Theory. They sell a lot of stuff there. There's a whole back section of comic books and walls of japanese graphic novels, trade paperbacks, figurines, and shirts. They also have posters, toys, and a small section of art books. There's Dungeons and Dragons paraphernalia, Magic the Gathering cards, more cards I didn't recognize, and a wall of art for sale by the counter. The only drawback is that their comic book section carries only current issues for the most part. There are back issues but there's very little of them. If you're all caught up on all your favorite series then this won't be a problem for you but If you're behind and looking to catch up then you're probably better off going to a different store. read more

You know, I wish I live around the area, I would probably be here every day no lie. This is the comic shop I like to step into without having to be looked head to toe, and without being judged by your comic of choice or if you have some inquiries. I like that I don't feel awkward when I walk in here. Instead, they have people willing to discuss and help you with your needs. They sell a vast collection of comics and graphic novels, t-shirts, collectibles, manga, and even art! Tip: There's a public parking area right across the street, if you can't find any parking, but you have to walk from there to the shop which is not that long of a distance. read more

A Shop Called Quest is the sweetest store ever. Always have the best merch and I have to say it's one of my top five places to shop. Featuring local artist and having new items on top of events this store knows how to keep loyal customers. If you handed me a pen and asked me to draw my ideal comic shop, it would look JUST LIKE SHOP. Clean, well organized, friendly, full of excellent merch and indie titles, a zine shelf, and at least one female staff member. Just - love. SO MUCH LOVE. I was in Redlands for work, and the name of the store caught my eye. I pulled over just to see what was what - and when I walked in the door, I walked into heaven. Seriously. There's no dusty shelves, no pretentious dude quizzing me on the evolution of Gwen Stacy, no labyrinth of towers to navigate - just a clean, open shop with a million things I could spend all my money on. (Seriously, that stuffed Lying Cat is coming home with me SOON.) Gloria is a gem and I will be back to spend all of my comic dollars with her for sure. The Redlands location got me (until y'all establish in San Diego) and it's full-on worth the hour and a half commute to visit such excellence in comic shops. If they sold coffee and got a shop cat, I'd never leave. So a couple weeks later, I'm driving through LA for work and make my way by accident to the ASCQ location there. Again, an all over fantastic experience! I had the pleasure of chatting with Ray and Jason and they were helpful, knowledgeable (for real, no Gwen Stacy quiz), and super pleasant. The shop is clearly under some kind of construction and STILL immaculate. They had Henry And Glenn Best Friends Forever enamel pins and were talking about Ales Kot the way *I* talk about Ales Kot. Ray also LIT UP when talking about zines - I picked up some of the genuinely best zines I've ever gotten from this store. These people love what they do, you can tell. It's awesome. This chain of comic shops makes me feel some kind of way. Tl:Dr - this is the brick and mortar business you should be spending your dollars at. Go there and do so. read more

EDIT: This is an edited, updated review; I've bumped up my previous 3-star review to 4 stars to reflect Comic Quest's changes since I first visited them, back when they were opening their new location. As comics specialty stores go, Comic Quest ranks as one of the better ones I've seen in the state (I've been spoiled by the stores in the Twin Cities, MN, which are fantastic; for California, this is a top-notch store). It's clean and well-lit, which is never a guarantee with comics stores. Their selection is a decent mix of mainstream and alternative titles, organized alphabetically on shelves with placards showing what's newest and what's been praised by critics. The majority of the comics are unwrapped, so you can browse to find what you like. Half the floor space is devoted to the monthly pamphlet-style comics while the rest of the store features a great deal of graphic novels and compilations, plus a selection of collectibles and toys. My primary criticism of CQ is that there is no all-ages section. I asked about this when I first came in, and the clerk - who was friendly and helpful - said they had one for the graphic novels, but not for the pamphlet-style comics because "some customers who may pick up the all-ages-appropriate books and try them out might be turned off to them if they were labeled that way." To his credit, he did offer to suggest a few suitable titles for my young nephew and nieces. If you're coming in with kids, you'll have to hover over them to make sure that what they pick up to look at is appropriate. Sadly, this is as much a criticism of the comics industry as it is Comic Quest, though I sympathize with the store's reasoning. Comic Quest also offers a membership deal in which you receive issues of Previews magazine, get a discount on your purchases, and they will keep a pull list of your requested comics for you to pick up when you visit. read more

Nice, clean shop that had a lot of merchandise from toys, funko pops and graphic novels. However, I was looking for older comics from the Silver and early Bronze Age which they barely had. So if you're looking for older comics, I would look elsewhere. read more

I only recently got into comics after the Walking Dead came on the scene but have had a love for anime, manga and gaming for quite some time. It was because of those original loves that I use to stop in at Comic Quest back at their original location on State Street during Market Night. The old store was always crammed floor to ceiling with graphic novels, collectibles, comics, manga and anything else you can think of. This made it a bit claustrophobic on a busy night and it was difficult to leisurely scan all the manga and anime titles, so I just stayed away when is was jammed packed. Now that they have moved to a newer location on the corner of Orange and Citrus, CQ can really show off the stock in a more eye catching, roomier setting. The only problem this creates for me is now I see how much awesome stuff they have and I need to buy it all! Unfortunately my paycheck and bills keep me from doing that! Now if you work funky hours or get paid (bi) monthly a good service to set up is a pull list. What is a pull list? " A pull list is an agreement between a comic shop and one of it's patrons in which the store purchases a copy of whatever books the buyer wants on a regular basis with the understanding that the buyer will purchase them in a reasonable amount of time." With CQ there is a one time fee of $25 and you are set! This has saved me so many headaches and gas. I have comics along with figures set on my pull list. So I just stop in every few weeks to pay for my stash and don't have to worry about driving around to other stores to find what I am missing because CQ sold out before I was able to stop by. My collection is complete and I'm not stuck buying any comics with bent covers or figures with damaged boxes. Hit um up and geek out or if your unsure what might tickle your fancy, stop in and browse away, you may begin a new favorite past time. read more

This is the best comic book, graphic novel, nerd culture store within 30 miles of Redlands I would wager. I've been coming here since the early '90s when I was in high school. This is one of Redlands' great thriving small businesses and I'm so glad they moved to their new location. Their new place is organized, clean, well-lit, and conducive to excessive browsing. One can find the big-name brands (Marvel, DC, Dark Horse, Image) as well as independent gems, manga, Uglydolls, other action figures, hip and smarmy T-shirts, and artistic hardback graphic novels. This place is where you want to go to for trade paperbacks and graphic novels! A Shop Called Quest is almost like a library. I don't have a pull list with them but I never really have to worry about finding a trade or comic with them. I live about 20 miles away from them but they never cease to amaze me. About a month ago, For the first time I visit this store. I was amazed and impressed how everything was organized. I knew I had to come back to pick up more books. Today, I visit and there was a great vibe to this store. I loved it, when I could not find a certain issue of Saga they went their way to get it from their storage or something and brought it to me. The cashier I talked to was very chill and mellow. I asked him about certain comics and he gave me his best opinion and recommend me some Trades. I have to say though that Comic Quest is really best for Intermediate to veteran comic book readers. They mostly sell new comic books and 2000-up back issues among toys, shirts and things which is really cool to be around. I took my friend which is new to the comic book relm there to buy her first comic and it was a bit hard finding her an old comic to ease her into the DC universe or the Marvel Universe. This comic shop is hands down the best shop in the Inland Empire if not the best store in California. Has such a wide variety of comics and merchandise, I'm there every Wednesday morning and the crew at comic quest always has what I'm looking for and if they don't they'll pull it for me when they get in another shipment. I would highly recommend skipping going to other comic shops and go straight to Comic Quest; oh yeah if your going to buy a lot of comics you should sign up for a membership, it's only $25 dollars and it pays for itself within a couple weeks of having it. read more

I used to love this place now I will NEVER come back! On yelp and online it says their hours are until 8pm. WRONG! I came here yesterday at 7:40 and no one. Today at 7:20 and they wouldn't even acknowledge me knocking on the door or take the time to tell me that it closes at 7. I called to ask them (while I was standing outside so they could see me) what time they close because there was no sign on the door. Apparently it's at 7 now. I asked if they could then update their hours listed on yelp and the rude guy said no! Horrible customer service! I was just looking out for others may also venture to the store between 7-8pm to find it closed. read more

This place is still in the process of moving (same block, but opposite corner). Don't let that mislead you into believing that the service will be anything short of fantastic... I've been here three times this week, and that's saying something because I'm really not a big fan of Comics. What drew me in was the hope that rumors of them carrying Kidrobot goods was true. The second I saw that big Munny poster on one of their exterior windows, I felt absolutely giddy. So far, it looked like my drive was worthwhile and that I might have a more local source for some of my Kidrobot needs that would save me from having to drive to Los Angeles or order online. Once I walked in, they had exactly the items I wanted, Munny figures. I bought a couple (Munny and Mini Munny) as well as a Dunny and a Kidrobot keychain. I came back a couple days later to buy another couple (just Munny and Mini Munny). I could have left after I grabbed the Munny figures and never thought back on going there, but at a little shop like this, you just can't do that. This place keeps you coming back. They seemed to have a nice selection of comics (though I am no expert) as well as some nice collectibles and a few "art" books (I call it "art" because some reading this may question the legitimacy of graphic art novels and books recounting the progression of designer toys (like Paul Budnitz's "I Am Plastic Too", a book I never thought I would be able to find locally)). The guys running this awesome shop really seem to be knowledgeable, make great recommendations and seem to have a passion for the comic/designer toy culture themselves. It's an amazing trifecta that will keep you from wanting to leave. Moreover, when I came back for the third time, not only did the kind gentleman working the register remember my visit and what I bought, but he seemed to have a shared interest in the culture of just that one "phenomenon" (I think customizing Munny figures is somewhat of a craze at this point even if some may be absolutely unaware of it). We exchanged some words on the topic, and I feel that he's my local go-to guy for anything remotely related to it. The only thing I didn't like was the fact that they don't carry Kidrobot's entire line, but that's definitely not something I would ever expect of them or anyone. It's already a niche of a market, and adding a whole store's inventory to theirs would be absurd (especially considering some of it is exclusive to Kidrobot and not to be sold via distributors such as them (confirmed by the gentleman working here)). Just remember, I came for a Munny, they had it, and they scored themselves a repeat customer. Like I said, it was a great experience, and I will definitely keep coming back. read more

Just discovered this place about a year ago and I've been a regular ever since, best comic book shop in the IE. Pretty big selection of graphic novels, pretty decent selection of manga and a pretty awesome selection of other collectables. The staff is pretty awesome, really helpful and knowledgeable.
