This place is awesome. I really like this place. I'm not a service-oriented type of person when it comes to apparel. Like, I would normally rather forgo good service, and have cheaper clothes or products. But I recently got into long-distance running and needed some good shoes. Of course, being the cheapo I am, I was hoping to just utilize their services here to pick out some shoes, and then buy them for cheaper online. Yes, I am a terrible person, I know. Long story short, the guy was SO patient and thorough in helping me. I think his name was Nate. Sadly, it was so long ago I forgot his name. But nonetheless he spent so much time explaining the different types of running shoes out there, why some athletes buy certain brands or types compared to others. I learned so much just in that setting. Besides all that, he also analyzed my walk to figure out what type of walker I am (i.e. pronator). You guys, this is not fluff - I read it recently in a magazine that it's really important to figure out what kind of walker you are in order to find the most appropriate shoes for you to prevent injury. On a side note, the guy helping me had a really terrible stutter. I have to admit, I admire companies that hire without discriminating as such (as opposed to superficial companies such as 24 hour fitness that hire only good-looking, young people). It shows a lot about the Company's culture and values. Anyway, back to the story, so I felt so bad when I was about to leave empty handedly. But I told myself that I was on a budget and I wasn't going to cave in (because I ALWAYS cave in and always overpay). So I was a douche and asked the guy if I can write down the model number to "think about it." And guess what he did, he wrote it all down for me, including the price. I know he knew what I was planning to do, and yet he humbly catered this douche bag (i.e. me), and didn't force me to buy shoes from him. Guys, you will not find better service than this, seriously. So I left, and I looked the shoes up online and guess what. I would have saved literally a measly $2 buying the same shoes online. That was retarded. It shows you that these people are honest, and legit. They're not even overpriced. I highly recommend this place and in fact I promised my mom I'd take her here to buy her and myself some new shoes. read more

Ok, first, lemme say that I totally understand the point of this store. You go and get some real advice personalized to your running style/gait/etc., instead of some cookie cutter shoe zombie just throwing shoes in your face. Believe me when I say that I didn't expect to just walk in and get some service right away. That said, I think 'snail's pace' refers to how quickly you'll get any help. We walked in, took a number (ours was 224). They had, from what I could count, about 4-5 workers helping customers, so I figured we'd have a bit of a wait, but not too bad. And so we waited, and waited. And waited. Finally about 10 minutes later, they called the next number. 218. And we waited. And waited. And waited. And waited. Finally after 20 more minutes and with NO new numbers being called, we figured we'd be there all day if we wanted to get any help, so we left. Again, I'm not complaining that I had to wait half an hour. That was expected. What I didn't expect was that I'd wait a half hour for ONE person to get called, and we were still 6 people behind that. That's absurd. I'll update this review if we ever go back and actually manage to get someone to see us, but until then, this place is ridiculous. I had such a great experience shopping here! My best friend recommended that I visit this store for a new pair of running shoes. I recently injured my foot running incorrectly in my old pair, so I decided to give this store a try. All the associates were busy helping their customers so I was just browsing the store for a few minutes. Then Traci introduced herself and was super friendly and helpful. She had me stand on this machine that analyzed my foot and pointed out where the pressure points were. She then grabbed a pair of shoes that were neutral to fit the needs of my feet, and had me test them on a treadmill. She recorded a few seconds of my run and pointed out details of how my feet landed and what my strides were like. After explaining what kind of support I needed, she then grabbed 3 more pairs of shoes for me to try out. I ran in the different pairs and found a pair I felt fit really well. I was worried that this pair might work for now due to my injury, but what happens if I get better and the shoes aren't the best as far as support? She told me that I can exchange my worn shoes within 30 days to get a fit that works better. How awesome is that? I definitely recommend coming here if you want a good pair of shoes that fit your needs, and get awesome one on one service! They tie your shoelaces for you as you try on different pairs. I been to Snail's Pace a few years back and they referred me a pair of New Balance. Those shoes ruined me. It was a horrible referral and left me with many injuries throughout the cross country season. This time around they referred me to different brands and styles. Although I did not choose their's (were not fit for me), but one that were similar my current ones (refereed to by another store). They are not that knowledgeable in the shoe department, even with all the do-dads they have in there. Tips: Bring School ID! They give discounts for students! I went in to the store almost 4 months ago to pick up a few massagers. The sales rep that helped me out was great -- very knowledgeable. I love walking out of a shop with new tips I can use. Unfortunately, fast forward to now, I ended up not using what I had purchased and decided on something else that I tried and really liked. I figured I'd take a stab at seeing if I could, at the very least, exchange them. I brought in the items with the receipt and was able to return/exchange easily and without a big speech about how long it's been or any attitude. They get an A for customer service from me. Only side note is that both times I've been here there was a good wait to get help, so don't get pissy if you don't get in and get out right away if they're busy. P.S. Amazing! Wish I could give 6 stars. I've been going back and forth online not exactly knowing what would be the best fit for me, there are so many options out there. I was recommended to A Snail's Pace by my best friend- she is always saying really great things about it. I train boot camp classes 3-4x a week and been in the market for some good shoes. I had the pleasure of having Chris assisting me. He was very kind, patient, listened to what I was looking for, and brought multiple brand options for me to try on. He had me step on a foot scanner which measured the length, width, arch, and listed some other cool specs (I've been wearing the wrong size my whole life!!). He then brought out a pair of shoes for me try on and recorded my walking pattern on the treadmill to see how/where my foot landed and if I needed a different type of shoe for ankle support. For first timer's, they actually take about 30 minutes to talk with you about your goals, and have you run around and test a variety of hand-selected shoes out, based on your style of running. The best part was how friendly the staff was. You'd think they'd charge an arm and a leg for such personalized service, but they actually showed me some very reasonably priced shoes. I ended up picking a pair that I loved--and it got me through the training and execution of my first 5k! Even more impressive, a friend of mine went there and they checked their database for shoes on sale first, before doing anything else! A Snail's Pace has a passion for helping runners. Pleased with my new shoes.. very pleased. The girl that helped me out was very young, and I wasn't sure if she really knew what she was talking about, but after watching me jog a bit she told me the inlays that I was using in my old shoes weren't working and that I needed to get some shoes that correct my foot roll. I ended up trying on about six different pairs, each of which she watched me jog in. She'd thumbs up them or thumbs down them based on how my foot landed. In the end I had three pairs to choose from so all that was left was comfort. I ended up with a great pair of Saucony's. Well it's been been about a month with my new shoes and they feel great. My ankle has stopped hurting, and they're the most comfortable shoes I've ever ran in. All and all.. a win. read more

I wrote my last review about a year and a half ago, and I stand by my initial opinion that A Snail's Pace is really the best place around to purchase running shoes! I've been wanting to get a new pair of running shoes for a while and stopped by Snail's Pace to look around. I was re-assessed and brought out a few pairs of shoes to try. Although I liked my last pair of gel kayano 17s, now they only have the gel kayano 19s. The representative who helped me was very honest with me about that shoe and explained the changes between the two models. I ended up with a pair of Brooks that I really like and am looking forward to using. Recently on another occasion, I went to the store with a friend who had purchased a pair of shoes from Snail's Pace 6 months ago but wanted to do a return. Even though their policy is returns allowed only within 30 days, the person who helped us was very friendly and allowed my friend to return his pair of shoes. Reason being he has flat feet, and the pair of running shoes recommended to him were high arch and dug into the bottom of his feet. The sales representative took the time to bring out multiple other pairs of shoes for him and recommend him a new pair of Sauconys. It does seem to get very busy here on the weekends though. If possible, I would recommend going on a week day to avoid the crowds. This way you get more space, more attention, and quicker service! read more

I was referred here by my sons school for some running shoes. I must say I was a bit scared of the price( so I thought) Noel helped us out. They start off by scanning you feet then they have you run on a treadmill this will show where you need more support. They bring out a couple of shoes and have you walk/run with them to make sure you like the feel. Let me tell you this is where I will be buying all or tennishoes from now on. I needed to be fit for a pair of new running shoes and came in because of all the great reviews on Yelp. This was my first time at this store. If you are looking for a store that lets you take the time to find the right pair for you with dedicated help, then this is the store for you. The sales associates are very very focused on the customer they are helping at the time. They were so focused that no one noticed we were waiting for at least 15 minutes. So waiting gets 3 stars. I didn't mind at first because I had a chance to browse the shoes. All I wanted was an acknowledgement that someone saw that we walked in. I went during the week to avoid the crowds and it was still very busy. Maybe a door bell rings when someone walks in to alert the sales associates. Once someone did notice we were waiting then we had two sales associates helping us. The experience of buying the actual sneakers gets 5 stars. They analyzed my feet and determined the best sneakers for me. I tried on 4 pairs and ultimately decided on one that fit me like a glove. I've always just purchased sneakers on sale, but after running races and injuring myself with the wrong sneakers it was time to go to a store that specialized in running. It's more expensive, but I am really happy with my purchase and look forward to enjoying my runs. Overall I give this store 4 1/2 stars and will definitely return in the future. read more

Poor customer service. The girl "helping" us couldn't have been less helpful. Went with my boyfriend to find new running shoes for each of us. I told the sales rep I wanted something that I could use on different surfaces such as sidewalks, street and occasionally in a kickboxing class. She said they had nothing like that. She walked away. (I noticed the shoe I currently have on the shelf that has been perfect for these needs over the past year) My BF wanted a pair of running shoes too. I walked back up to the cash wrap and asked if someone could help us with shoes for him. Had to ask her to do her job and actually recommend a few pairs to look at. Had to ask her to analyze his stride, had to ask her to go get some shoes that would work for him. We should have left then and there. Came here to look for some running shoes. Training for a marathon I had heard that this place does a great job and helping you figure out the best shoes that fit you. It is true, the help here was great. Cyrus helped out tremendously. Took an exam of our foot and how we run, from there we were able to try different shoes on. Not once did we get the feeling he was trying to put us in the most expensive shoes, which is different from other shoe stores. This place does great at explaining how you want to train, what type of shoes to use and also what types of socks are best to use. 4.5 stars for my experience at A Snail's Pace Running Shop today. I've been avoiding the process of being fit for rock-star running shoes due to the cost I knew I would have to fork over. However, with my first half-marathon coming up, I figured I need to go all out to avoid injury as much as possible. I stopped by ASP before they opened this morning and waited just a few minutes for the door to open. They immediately had 4 associates ready to help the few people that were also waiting with me. David was extremely helpful with measuring the pressure points on my feet, finding the right shoes for my over-pronation and even the comfort for ankle support. I think I tried on at least 6-7 pairs. He answered all of my questions about shoes, the only thing they couldn't help with was a recommendation on a good GPS watch. However, he asked someone else and they provided a great website that I could work on researching which I would be interested in. Although my fears of cost were realized (set back about $130), I know that the shoes I bought will help me run faster & jump higher... or at least keep me from major injury. ;) read more

I've had my workout shoes for about 10 years ( i know, a terrible thing) but they still worked although I just looked at the soles and boy are they WORN DOWN..... I really wanted to invest in a good workout shoe since I know it is important to have a nice, sturdy and effective shoe to maximize my workout. A friend suggested this place as they are well knowledgeable about their shoes! I went on a Wednesday afternoon and the place was fairly busy. The place is small and located off of Randolph and Imperial Hwy where the Jamba Juice is. All the workers were busy with other customers when my friends and I walked in so we browsed the wall of shoes while we waited. Because I wanted to make sure I got the right shoe for me, I wanted to speak with someone before deciding on something based on looks. An employee freed up and helped us happily. I explained to him what type of working out I do and he was well-knowledgable. He first measured our feet by having us stand on some sort feet analyzing. I thought it was pretty cool, but he didn't really explain anything about the device, all he wanted was our foot sizes. The employee recommended a minimalist shoe since what I do is mostly plyometric workouts and that type of shoe is best for that. There were 3 of us looking to get the same thing and the guy brought out 3 different pairs of shoes for each of us to try. The first shoe we tried was AMAZING. Adidas has a new shoe out called the energy boost and that thing is SOOOOO COMFY. But anyways, this isn't about the shoes but about the place... :p Overall, there was great service at this place and I would definitely recommend it to anyone who really wants to get a shoe to match their workout lifestyle. The people there really know what they are talking about and they have a wide selection. They don't pressure you to get anything but they do recommend certain things and give their honest opinions about it. They also have workout attire but i didn't really browse that section. I have been trying to get back into running since an injury put me out of commission three years ago shortly after my first 5k. However, ever since then, any time I have tried to ease my way into running again, I've just been brought down by shin splints immediately. So I finally decided it was time to go to a professional and see if my shoes were the problem. They were very busy, but were all super friendly when I walked in and ensured me they'd help me as soon as they could. I had made an appointment, and once they realized, they were super apologetic they had kept me waiting, even though it had only been about 5 minutes past my appointment time. Andre helped me through the shoe fitting process and brought out a few examples of shoes with good support that would be a good fit for me. I found a pair I liked that felt good to run in, for not a bad price ($110). He also recommended compression socks (which I was already using) and using a roller for my shin splints. I ran the next day in the new shoes and had some shin pain, but I ran again two days later and had no shin pain at all for the first time in literally three years. I don't know what type of voodoo shoe magic they work over at A Snail's Pace, but I greatly appreciate it!! read more

This is my first Yelp review but A Snail's Pace Running shop surely warrants this inaugural review! The assistant manager Traci helped me purchase two pairs of shoes today- one running and one for walking. She was patient, friendly and extremely knowledgeable about their products. I'm used to shoe purchases where I decide what looks good and then try them on, so it was an interesting concept to allow the employee to select the shoes for me. She took a scan of my feet to understand my arches, appropriate shoe size etc. then brought out a number of shoes to try on and run in. The whole process took roughly 25 mins or so and she was in no rush and answered all of my questions. I came away with two fantastic pairs of shoes. I would highly recommend this place to anyone looking to find the right pair of shoes from a fantastic team of employees! read more

Came into the shop around noon. Staff was extremely responsive and helped me out immediately. She had me walk on the treadmill so she could monitor my heel strikes. I have never had anyone observe this for me so I was extremely impressed. We talked about it for a few minutes and then she brought out 3 different pairs of shoes for me to try on. Overall I was very pleased and thankful for the help. I ran in the running shoes that I had purchased based on her recommendation later in the day and had a great experience. I did end up buying a pair of shoes from here, but with *very* little help from the teenager who seemed to either not know much about the specific running products they carry and/or just did not care much about her job (I'm guessing a little of both). If you want expert advice on which running shoes to buy next, do keep on looking. I'd recommend using a shop that has a little better technology in foot mechanic analyzing. After many years driving past this store I finally came in for some running shoes. I had such an awesome and positive experience with Caleb. I have never been much of a runner and I think that is largely due to the fact I've never been in the proper shoe for my personal feet. Caleb listened to my concerns and overcame every obstacle I had in my mind when it came down to buying the perfectly tailored shoe for myself. He was incredibly helpful and polite and showed the upmost professional service I've come across in quite some time. Like most people, I've gone to Sports Chalet and stores alike for running shoes and always get told the same thing.. "you want to make sure there is room in your shoes for your feet to move" but that was about it. Fast forward to now, I started running for the past year with the Merrell Bare Access 2 shoes and loved that they were a minimalist shoe, which really helped me work on a better form. However, as I got more into running I felt the need for something different so I came here. I was assisted from the minute I came in by an older gentleman and he was extremely helpful and a great listener at that! He was kind enough to bring out 6 different pairs of shoes and answered any questions I had and was able to provide me with sufficient information. It is difficult to pick a pair when the 6 pairs you've tried on all felt good, however the pair I chose so far is working out great with me. What's even better to know is that their return policy is 30 days with receipt and box.. even if they have been worn! Knowing that helped me feel more confident in my purchase, scared that I was going to blow $170 on a pair that I had no confirmation of prolonged comfort. OVERALL: If you are new to running do not be intimidated!! If anything come to this store because I'm glad I did. read more

First off, let me state for the record that I only run if being chased. A few years back, I shopped at A Snails Pace in Fountain Valley and picked up some new Adidas when I did AidsWalk LA. I'm on a new walking kick so I wore those shoes out this morning and they've definitely seen their better days - so I went this afternoon to A Snails Pace in Brea to get a new pair. I love A Snails Pace because they actually take the time to talk about your needs and watch how you walk. Since I'll be using my shoes just to walk and I walk on the outsides of my feet, the sales guy brought out several pairs that might work for me. He was great. I had his undivided attention and he knew what he was talking about. I decided on a pair of super comfy New Balance. The shoes came with a New Balance shoe bag, a pair of socks, a lip balm and some suncreen. (It's like they know me!) It feels great knowing I bought the perfect shoes and tomorrow when I go on my walk it will be in total comfort. My experience could not have been better. read more

Let me start off by saying I love this place. I've bought 3 pairs of shoes here and have been treated like royalty every time. Snail's Pace is all about customer service. As soon as you walk in your greeted by the super knowledgable staff who cater to whatever stupid request you might have. I gotta admit, im one of those stupid people. Every time I've bought a pair of running shoes there, i've tried on every shoe they have in my size to make sure that i get the most comfortable pair they have. Sad thing is, i always end up getting the same brand and style hahah. Ya, like i said, im a stupid customer. Even with all this, the staff is always super accommodating to whatever i need. If you are a new runner, i suggest you come here first. They will look at your running style and tell you what shoes you need to support your heel strike and the way you pronate. This makes a huge difference when running long distance. Mainly, its going to save your knees and ankles, trust me, i know. Snail's Pace is just an awesome place. I JUST recently got into running. I'm a shoe collector of basketball shoes like nike and jordan, but when it comes to running shoes, I don't know squat. A family member suggested I come into a snail's pace to buy running shoes because running is their specialty. Service: The service here is top notch. The employees definitely know what they're talking about because they suggest shoes based on your running form. Don't know what type of running shoe you need? The employees will help you out. They will have you try on shoes and require that you jog in them to test the shoes out and to also observe your running form. Also 10% off discount for students (high school/college!). How awesome is that? Products: They have all types of running gear from running apparel to shoes, to socks. They even have supplements for those who are really serious about getting in shape. They also offer running programs for beginners and training regimens people who are training for an upcoming marathon. They have a wide selection of brands and price ranges. I usually come here when I need a new pair of running socks. Overall: Forget those large chain shoestores, I'll be doing my running shoe shopping here from now on. So, my friend is a cross country runner and he recommended this place to me and took me there. When I got there I was like OMG wall full of shoes, people running around the store, and tons of friend faced staff. When I walked in the door, there was a pretty large group of people, and still 3 workers came to me and asked me if I needed help.. OF COURSE I DID! A good pair of running shoes is essential to a runner, while some chose to buy some depending on price/brand/style, and there are some runners that choose to buy depending on the fit of the shoe. I've been coming to Snails Pace for 5 years now because all of the shoes that I have bought here have been liquid gold to my feet. Your feet take you places, why not treat them with the best equipment for them? They provide great customer service and have a great attitude here, it's always the same happy employees who are happy to help you out. I've also checked out comparable shoes here when I'm doubtful about my shoe selection, but my sauconys fit me snug as a bug. My sauconys fit my arch due to my flat feet and give me more bounce to the ounce when I'm running. They also keep my shoe information in their system so if I ever need to order a new pair, all the information is there. I've ordered them on the phone, and they are ready for pick up. This past experience, they were not in stock, but were available at another store. They just had shipped from the other store within 2 days so I could purchase them, saves me a trip! If you're serious about running, check this place out. You don't stop in and buy whatever shoes you like, you get fitted for the shoe that fits your foot. I had a great experience here, a friend of mine told me about this place several years ago but at that time I always thought "pssh running shoes, i'll just run in whatever shoe i have" recently I started to get more serious about running and I bought a nice pair of nike running shoes last year, "you know the new ones that are light weight and have cool colors that everyone seems to wear these days in the gym" and honestly its a great shoe that I paid about 95$ for.... but I decided to check this place out anyways because I figured it cant hurt, the only thing was I kept hearing that this place was a bit more on the expensive side....but its really not at all in which i'll explain. I was approached by Cali inside the store and she really knew her stuff, she got me to stand on this pad to see how my feet work, where the weight is , balance, etc. then explained a bit of what kind of feet I have, so she brought out a test shoe for me to jog to the door in and she told me right off the bat what type of runner I am. so she brought me 4 shoes that fit my needs. I had a hard time picking out of the last 2, and it was a nike or a brooks running shoe. Ended up going with the nike. I mentioned that some people online say that snails pace is expensive but she told me that you dont get charged anymore than a normal shop, and they would even price match. I went home that night and looked up my shoe and it cost the exact same online!! honestly this made a huge difference, comfortable shoe, i just ran 2 miles morning and it felt great. worth every penny and the information was almost priceless. thank you snails pace! read more

We came here for my 9 year old daughter who has been having many issues with her feet. They used the analysis to understand what was best for her and to help find her the best shoes and insoles. I had not been able to run in a year due to pain in my leg so when i saw how great this worked, i had Cyrus do the same analysis for me and have had no issues since then. I can' t believe what a difference in our life this has made and i wish they could do this with all shoes types!! Cyrus is terrific amd patient. My mom who had broken her ankle and is post-surgery also had the analysis and found the best insoles and shoes for her to relieve the pain when walking. read more

Love this place! I just moved to the area from Texas and I needed a run store. As a dedicated runner you can't buy shoes at a big box store. I was able to come into A Snails Pace and get fitted for new running shoes. I will definitely be back! read more
