So I had totally forgotten about this place and I've been sick the past few days and haven't been able to really leave the house so there's this place near my home that that's called wander and it's kind of like a DoorDash but it's a bunch of places in one spot. So I decided to place an order from here and my God it was out of this world.! I had been to A Taste of Greece a couple of times a few years ago. This evening my daughter and I were looking for an excellent Greek dinner and I remembered this place. Glad I did! It was a frigid Friday night at about 6:30, so we lucked into a table for 2. Our waiter was personable and professional. He listed the specials for us and I selected the fried halloumi appetizer, avgolemono soup, and branzino for an entree. My daughter went with chicken kebabs and a Greek salad. The fried halloumi appetizer was perfectly fried sticks and was served with a cherry sauce which was the perfect accompaniment! Branzino was a great portion of perfectly cooked fish. Saw a post on Instagram so I decided to check it out with my friend. I love eating healthy whole foods, so this place was right up my alley. Immediately, we were given a plate with some seasoned pita with some delicious hummus, and a roasted pepper mixture. Next, the side salad was out of this world..beautiful colorful veggies, and it had the most amazing feta cheese, garden ripened tomatoes & olives, dressed with a nice red wine vinegrette. We are not huge eaters, so we were able to share the chicken skewers which came with rice and roasted vegetables. All very good!!! I've been on a very strict diet for the last 30 days and I decided it was time for a break. I wanted to eat something good. Unfortunately I still had to try to stay on the diet so I decided on a gyro. At least it only meant I had to eat one pita. It was so delicious I felt like I was in heaven. The zucchini pancakes had my favorite cheese, feta, oh feta. They were fantastic, and I was still on my diet. Mediterranean food is perfect for me, delicious and meets my dietary restrictions. Adorable comfy restaurant not big in size but food was outstanding in flavors. 4.5 stars My friend was telling me about how A Taste of Greece was a small, casual place that offered incredible Greek food. Well, the next day, I happened to be in the area and decided to place a takeout order. When my family and I called to place our order, the man who answered the phone was extremely friendly and helpful, which made us feel even better about getting our dinner from there. When we went to pick up the food, we found the restaurant in a corner of a small strip mall with parking. The food was warm and infused the car with intoxicating aromas that encouraged us to rush home and enjoy. We started by sharing the pan-seared Meatball appetizer, which included a generous 9 or 10 small and soft balls. The beef meatballs were delicious, but the accompanying herb oil had too much lemon or something in it, as it was too sour/tart for my liking. We also got a large container of Hummus, which was smooth, creamy, and topped with harissa and crispy chickpeas. The bold spread was served with thin, spiced pita that appeared to be homemade. I had never had that sort of bread seasoned before, but it was so terrific! In addition to the starters, we each ordered an entrée, which came with our choice of soup or salad, as well as rice and seasonal vegetables. I opted for the side Greek Salad, which included crisp romaine, ripe tomatoes, bell pepper, and loads of grated feta, all lightly covered with a tangy dressing. For my main dish, I went with the Chicken Shish, which was essentially the same as their soulvaki, but included the grilled peppers, onions, and tomatoes that had been on the skewers with the meat. The chicken was extremely flavorful and lean, but was just a touch dry. The accompanying yellow rice was tender and delicious; the charred zucchini was also enjoyable. The whole dish was served as a large portion that was perfect for making a second meal. Lastly, we had ordered a slice of Walnut Cake, which was served as a large triangular chunk in a sweet honey sauce that kept the already fluffy cake even more moist. It was a heavenly pastry! I saw all the rave reviews about this place and so my husband and I decided to check it out with our kids. We sat and wasn't brought a menu and our glasses of water weren't filled. We sat a couple of mins and no server came to greet us. The person who was in front when we arrived was too busy taking orders on the phone placing tickets for orders in the back. My family waited a few mins and then just got up and left. A literal hole in the wall, A Taste of Greece is such a small restaurant but whips up some delicious greek food. During COVID-19 they've switched from dine in to delivery / takeout which makes sense based on the space they have available. I typically order the American "Greek Staples" a greek salad (covered in feta-deliciousness), a gyro platter, and a chicken souvlaki platter (aka chicken kabobs). All well worth it! My gyro specifically was stacked and something I'd definitely order again. I could barely finish it. Those who got chicken said it was a little bit on the drier side, but still tasty. The only reason I'm giving four stars is because we also ordered 3 baklavas for about $6 each.. so they're not cheap and unfortunately they were all stale. Might've been bad timing or an off night so a note to the restaurant that it'd be worth checking these before they go out. My sandwich fell apart. At first I played the blame game. I thought that no one on this Earth, no matter how supportive they were could have kept this sandwich together. It was simply to fragile and soggy. It didn't matter how caring the hands were that picked it up, it just wanted to fall apart regardless. After a little while of blaming the sandwich for everything, I started to look inward. Was it my fault in any way? I mean the sandwich was by itself for a while. I was late to pick it up and after I picked it up, I ignored it for another hour. Maybe it would have all worked out if the timing was better on my part. One human hour is probably so many sandwich hours. I could have been more considerate of the sandwich's past and maybe then I would have been more supportive when picking it up. Was I just thinking about myself? I soon realized it was pointless trying to figure out who's fault it was. I needed to focus on the task at hand, I had a broken sandwich. If I didn't care for it, I wouldn't bother trying to put it back together. That wasn't the case for me, I still felt like there was hope for us. So one by one I started to put the pieces back. Delicious! When our son moved from Astoria one of our main concerns was the ability to find good Greek food around their new location. After eating at A Taste of Greece twice now in just a couple weeks, all of our worries are gone due to their amazing cuisine. Actually, we believe the food served at A Taste of Greece surpasses restaurants in Astoria! We've ordered take out twice and each time the items arrived packed well and containing generous portions. I was very pleased with the price in relationship to the quality and quantity of food. The items we have tried so far include: Dolmades (stuffed grape leaves), Tyrokateri dip (best I've eaten), lemon potatoes (delicious), Pork gyro and platter (tender and flavorful. The grilled veggies with the platter are amazing), Chicken Souvlaki platter, Maroulosalata with shrimp, and pitas with tzatziki. Quality and flavorful have been the key points in our entrees. Came here while shopping in Paramus based on Farrow and Ball paint store recommendation. We live in NYC and are used to all varieties of Greek food but wow this was on a whole other level. The attention to each ingredient (perfect NJ tomatoes, delicious feta that for a change wasn't over-salted) was refreshing , kind of like eating in parts of Europe - nothing fancy, but you could actually TASTE the food.
