Tested all the drops. Though one was faulty at the termination I was able to fix. All drops are good and still holding.

I called Joel to hardwire my new house with Cat6e cable. I wanted 5 rooms in a two story old house wired with two drops per room to the garage and he said no problem. He did tell me that he doesn't work with 6e, only Cat6 because its harder to run, which I was ok with. He quoted me by far the cheapest rate for the work of the others that I requested a quote from which was amazing. Joel was a super friendly guy and extremely professional. He told me that he retired from AT&T and is doing this to earn some extra income. He was also local. He spent two days wiring the house. There were a few odd routes here and there, and there were more outside runs than I would have preferred, but it worked out well. He also did leave a few holes in the walls that he forgot to fill in, left some tools and some small messes (drywall bits, dirt) that he forgot to clean up, but I didn't mind since they were easy to clean up. Also, not sure if this is common practice, but he used wall staples to attach the cable at places, which seems to be stressing the insulation. One of the rooms also only had one drop instead of the two that I asked for. 9 drops installed in 5 rooms for a total for $1,350 at $150 a drop for my house. Ultimately, everything tested great on my 2.5 Gbps network for a few days. However, after a week I only started getting 100 Mbps on one of the drops to my office. I called Joel and he told me that he would come run a new drop. On the day that he was to arrive, he was a no show. I finally got a hold of him that night and he told me he had contracted pneumonia which was a totally reasonable excuse! I reached out a few months later and he said that he was recovering and was planning on starting up again in the summer. I ultimately decided to see if I could fix the drop myself with the help of youtube and the tools he left behind. I found out that the issue was that he had nicked a wire at the termination at the patch panel he installed in the garage. Using the punch tool he left behind, I repunched the termination and got full speeds again. Overall a few minor mishaps, but the price was right and again, he's a great guy. I wouldn't hesitate to use Joel again.

2 ethernet wall ports and a coax jack.

Here's a fun story:…read more On Sunday, May 24th, I replaced a lightbulb in a standing lamp in my bedroom and tried to turn it on. It didn't go on. I discovered that about 2/3 of my outlets and lights weren't working. I flipped switches on my electrical panel multiple times; power was not restored. I called Five or Free, went through a screening with an AI assistant, and got through to Chloe, a dispatcher/scheduler (i.e. not an electrician) clearly working from home, with a baby in the background. Chloe was sweet and helpful and got me an appointment on Tuesday, May 26th. I had to take the 2:00-4:00 slot (I work mornings), canceling a tutoring session to do so. This was my choice, of course, but I did want to get lights and internet working in my home. The electrician was a no-show on Tuesday. Soon after 4 PM (the outer end of the window), I called Chloe (again the AI rigmarole first); she apologized. She said that there'd been a miscommunication and that the electrician had gone to another job. I asked if he could come to me next -- despite it probably being outside of the electrician's working hours -- since it was Five or Free's mistake; she said no, contritely. She set up a visit for the next day. Electrician Tommy Wilson came on Wednesday, May 27th, checked the electrical panel, noticed that one breaker was loose, and said that he or another electrician would need to come on a different day and conduct a more involved inspection, probably going into the garage and checking out the panel therein. He did a write up of the issue and showed it to me (but didn't email it to me, as I later discovered). He said he'd contacted the scheduler and gotten me an appointment for Friday, May 29th, and that I'd need to pay $475 up front, which I reluctantly did. After the second inspection, Tommy explained, the electrician would give me an estimate -- in other words, the $475 was just the base fee; there could potentially be an additional charge depending on the nature of the problem and the scope of work required to repair it. I got stood up yet again on Friday the 29th and called another electrician, JC Electrical Repair Services. Juan Carlos (JC) squeezed me in on Saturday morning before his other appointments. He whooshed in, identified the problem (a standing lamp that needs to be retired), replaced the loose breaker, let me confirm that all lights and outlets were now working, gave me a safety recommendation (a space heater I'd been using was too powerful for my circuits and thus dangerous to use), and tightened all the screws on the electrical panel, noting that any electrician should do that during a visit regardless of the purpose of the visit. He did all of this over the course of about 25 minutes. Later on Saturday, Vincent from Five or Free called. (He had called a few days earlier to check in.) He apologized profusely, explaining that they were short-staffed and stretched thin. He mentioned that they'd hired an electrician who's in the military; this fellow had recently been called to active duty, leaving them an electrician short. I noted that I had actually missed out on income twice, canceling a tutoring session on Tuesday because I needed to book the 2PM-4PM window, then doing so again on Friday for the same reason, and was out $160 as a consequence. Vincent again apologized and said that my payment ($475) would be refunded, emphasising the need to wait 3-5 business days before the refund would go through. I explained that because the charge was still pending, I couldn't yet dispute it. (I will check my credit card activity every day until this is resolved.) Conclusion: Five or Free is a terribly-run company, understaffed and with too many parties attempting to coordinate with one another. It also hires less-than-competent electricians. JC Alameda Electrician Services, on the other hand, rocks. It's just one electrician, I think: Juan Carlos Curisinche Gonzales, 510 828-4993. Give him a call if you need an electrician in Alameda County.

I called several electrician's hoping to get a same day appointment and was not having much luck. When Esed answered my call he asked me several questions about what happened and what my panel looked like then proceeded to walk me through how to force reset over the phone. His kindness in walking me through it over the phone not only saved me the cost of having an electrician come out at short notice but also saved me from a cold night without a working furnace. Esed could have charged me for an in-person fix but instead offered to help me on a call. When I do have electrical issues in the future (old house with old electrical will definitely need actual repairs & upgrades in the future) Esed at Ideal Electric will be the first person I call! He texted me back and we arranged for him to come out today at 3:30 to check it. It had been installed in 2006 or 7. It controls the light and contains a heater and a vent. I never use the vent and seldom use the heater, so it wasn't an emergency. Esed arrived promptly w/ his tools. He went upstairs w/ his tools and checked out the fixture, which worked fine for him. We agreed that I should have tried it again. He said it was a Panasonic, which is very reliable. He estimated that it was about 25 years old because the housing was made of metal rather than plastic. It may be that it was manufactured and then installed years later. He charged his usual troubleshooting fee, which I was happy to pay because I might never have turned it on again, which would have been a pity. We had a good chat after he finished, catching up on what was going on in each others' lives. I can't recommend him highly enough.

Rigo did a great job with the 3 things I had done: replacing an electrical panel, replacing 2 light fixtures, and installing a smoke alarm. He was on time, knowledgable, and efficient. I don't think it is necessarily the cheapest option around but with something like this, quality and experience matters and they did a great job and handle permits and such. They did exactly what I asked them to do and were responsive over email and able to ask the exact questions they needed which made things seamless. This is not necessarily a bad thing but they could have probably done some kind of "walk through" around the place and found some additional work for me. Upselling is obviously not always a great practice but in my case, there were some things that I wish I had done and I think they could have suggested them and left it up to me to say yes/no to during the initial inspection. For example my kitchen could definitely use at least 1 additional outlet, I should have probably replaced a 3rd light, and so on. I do respect that they don't try to take you on a ride but since it is probably efficient to do things all at once, may have been helpful to discuss (this was also my bad for not noticing these things before). Rigo did a bunch of smaller things that made a big difference too like taking out the packaging for the lights and the old ones as well as the old electrical panel, clearly labeling all the switches very neatly which was not well done before, answering my questions and explaining things in a way that I (someone with little knowledge about most of this stuff) would understand.

The project did take longer than initially expected due to delays outside of their control, but the quality of the work never wavered. From the beginning, the team was professional, knowledgeable, and extremely thorough. They explained what needed to be done, why it mattered, and what to expect at each step, which made a potentially stressful process feel very manageable. Raushan, the project manager, was great to work with and incredibly helpful throughout the entire process. He was responsive, organized, and always made sure we were informed and comfortable with the plan. Alex, one of the technicians, worked incredibly hard during the rewire and clearly took pride in his work. Bek, another technician, truly went above and beyond - paying close attention to the details and making sure everything was done perfectly, not just "good enough." Beyond the rewire, they handled multiple additional electrical upgrades and fixes around the house, all done cleanly and correctly. What really stood out was trust. Having a crew in your home for a major electrical project isn't easy, but we always felt confident that they had our best interests in mind. No corner-cutting, no unnecessary upsells, just solid, high-quality work. The crew was respectful, showed up when they said they would, and stayed focused until the job was fully complete. I highly recommend Max Electric and would absolutely hire them again!
