The simple act of buying a dresser at a thrift store turned into a big project when the drawer pulls for the fourth drawer came off in my hands! The screws for the replacement pulls didn't clear the width of the drawer. I was finally able to put the way-too-difficult project to rest with help from Linda at A to Z Supply. She took the time not only to find screws the right length, but to notice that the ones that Other Hardware Store sold me were the wrong width as well. We've recently moved to Grass Valley (Alta Sierra area) and are discovering all the essential businesses nearby. We were out and about (had just finished eating a delicious late lunch/early dinner we picked up from El Bario and enjoyed at a nearby park -will review both later) the other day and remembered we needed a new light socket and cover plate and found A to Z on Yelp. Navigation routed us through an older, very cool area (I totally fall more in love with this area everywhere I drive! We have already figured out we need to plan an extra 5-10 minutes into the drive time just so we can "look around us.") and we landed at the cool store front of A to Z where I just had to snap a pic of the the sign posted in their window that literally made me laugh out loud! While Hubby picked out the light socket I started poking around the store, "hunting." I had a small square of cardboard in my hand and the guys working there could clearly see I was hunting for "something." They asked if they could help. I explained that I was looking for something or some things to solve a problem (hanging a small composting bin inside a cabinet door -it has a hanger that attaches magnetically with a small lip at the top edge so I needed something a specific size. My cardboard was the template.) Now we were all on the hunt, brainstorming and rejecting several promising ideas but eventually we found two viable solutions (and the one we landed on did work!). The fix cost a whopping $2.12. The customer service was amazing! Thanks Guys!! We will be back very often I'm sure! read more

I walk in, an employee immediately asks if they can help me, I tell them what I'm looking for, they walk me to the item, I discuss the item with them and ask for advice which is given and then the item is placed in my hand and we walk to the register. Excellent selection of products. They also carry unique items that are usually only found online or specialty stores. Prices are competitive with the "Big Warehouses", but you don't have to drive out of town to get them. Customer service is very helpful and knowledgeable of their inventory. They also carry 20' lengths of pipe (pvc, metal, drain, culvert, etc). Thanks again for being my favorite local hardware store!! read more

I recently bought a house in Grass Valley and found A to Z to be the closest hardware store. Having the money in my pocket to pick and choose hardware stores all around town, this one has the best customer service you can find. First off, this place is a kids maze. "I need 2 inch wood screws." - "Sure, head down the stairs, open the railing, open the next door, head left, then you'll find the spinning screw holder, it'll be in the back." Besides lumber this place has it all. I go in because the staff is super friendly and knowledgable. read more

The people at A to Z are always knowledgeable, helpful and fun to talk to. Dan Senior (his son, Dan Jr., also works there) is a font of knowledge and goes out of his way to be helpful. I just bought a generator (darn power outages) and needed him to walk me through how to use it, what extra items I needed (power cords, gas cans, etc.), and A to Z is even going to deliver and set it up for me tomorrow. I also get all of my drip irrigation supplies from them. I've shopped there for years and definitely recommend them. Oh, Dan Sr. is a beekeeper and the honey he sells is wonderful. Their website sucks but their customer service is awesome and they have a lot product to choose from at decent prices.

Staff is wonderful, they couldn't be more helpful and knowledgeable. I have been there for everything from pool chemicals to paint and lumber. Never disappointed! They also have a garden center and the ladies that run it give fantastic gardening and canning advice. read more

We live very close to another hardware store in town, but sometimes what we want is only at Ace. The staffer are very friendly and helpful. They advertised specialized allergy air filters on sale at a very good price, and when I called, they did not have the size I needed, but the man offered to order them for me at the sale price. I was referred to them from Hills Flat Lumber (also pretty good). A to Z carried exactly what I was looking for (3/4" sprinkler heads). No one else in the area carried them. They also had an abundance of nozzles of various sizes which I was also looking for. Great experience so far! read more

My fiance and I recently moved to the Morgan Ranch area of Grass Valley. I see A to Z hardware everyday en route to the local middle school. With the warm weather upon us, we wanted to started our garden and so we were off to Kmart to visit their garden center. As we were leaving, I suggested we check out A to Z and so we went there and I am thrilled beyond words that we did! As stated in every previous review, the customer service is top notch and the staff is super knowledgeable. Not only did we pick up our veggie starters, but we grabbed some sod for back yard, as well. When we got home, we realized that we were 3 rolls short and so I called the next morning to ask them to hold 3 more for us and that my fiance would pick them up after work. Without even telling her our names, she remembered us from the day prior and advised she would hold the sod under Matt's name. This is what small town service is all about. We have literally been there 3 more times since our first visit last week! read more
