I was made to feel like a criminal by the manager during today's visit. After purchasing my item, this older Caucasian woman dressed in a blue top (who I was later told was the manager) approached me in the parking lot and curtly demanded to see my receipt. I produced it and she compared the price on my item with the receipt, presumably to ensure I bought it (and didn't steal it or swapped tags with another item?). Then she handed it back to me without a word and started to walk back into the store. Nothing along the lines of "thank you, have a nice day" or any courtesy for patronizing their business. As she entered the door to the Restore, she swung back around and snapped at me about my car being parked in the handicap spot if I'm not disabled. I personally am not, but my mother-in-law is, and my mother-in-law was still checking out her items, and we had the disabled placard hung up in the car. Again, not a single word after this. She did tell me my trunk wasn't closed fully though, so I appreciated that. I guess she had to have the last word? I was made to feel like a criminal. I went to the counter where my mother-in-law was checking out and told her how the manager just rudely spoke to and treated me. The staff at the counter apologized and I replied it's not their fault. It's obvious to me the manager hates her job, so for the sake of ensuring continued business by well-meaning customers, she should either show some respect or let someone who can smile take her job. read more

One star for Julie's attitude. 5 starts for the LOADING crew! Who knew that at a store such a the habitat restore you have to make sure to use perfect vocabulary with their highly educated staff. Julie was so incredibly UNHELPFUL when I came in today to pick up my items we purchased on Tuesday. She can't seem to find the correlation between the words pickup and loading and was so condescending when I had to spell out for her I was here to pick up my items. When she finally was able to compute that, everything went fairly smoothly until some moron blocked the parking lot with their trailer and then she came out and asked me if I was carrying my furniture I bought to my car...lol I would pay someone to do that for me Julie, if that was the case. Regardless of my awful experience with her, and her disgusting attitude, we got our items we paid for and are happy. Hopefully Julie sees happier days soon. read more

This place really went down hill in the reorganization / management change. It used to be a place you could walk around and find new projects, parts for ones you were working on and generally a lot of neat stuff. Now, it's usually priced steeper than it used to be with 10% of the inventory and for god's sake, they are closed on sunday. WTF? does nobody work 9-5 in this area? As you're driving to this location, you may think that your GPS is taking you to a campground. But hang in there, you will eventually arrive at the ReStore nestled in beautiful trees. It's a fairly large location, well organized with signage pointing out what you can browse through. Hubby found a metal bookcase that's perfect for storing tile for his mosaic projects. My husband was told they take furniture items and repair them no problem so the next day, he took a trailer full over. When he got there, they said they couldn't take them! They didn't have room for them. He wasn't "early enough! They already had tables! So he gave elsewhere. Never again!!! Give this place a miss!!! read more

We love this place. We have gotten some great deals here (5'x6' double paned operable windows (metal frame) for $25 for example) over the years and we have found the staff to be very friendly and helpful. The place has so much, and sometimes of course it is hit and miss, but worth stopping in for the occasional treasure you find. Sometimes the prices are not as low as I'd expect or hope, but at least they are raising money for a good cause. Also, a word about appliances - we have not bought one there myself but in donating they would not accept one we were offering because it was not in perfect working condition. Perhaps the policies have changed since the 2009 review, but they seem to be more particular now. read more

I find consistantely find something nifty each time I come to the Habitat for Humaity Restore on Loma & I like hunting down cool stuff so I visit several times a week & twice on Saturday! I spend a fair amount of $$ here & enjoy chatting with Shelly, Heather, Ray & Danny each time. All are helpful & seemingly happy to assist. What gets old though is the consistantly turse & crabby behavior of the tall white haired man who works there. If you stay clear of him it's a 4 star experience. It would be a five star experience if management would address & resolve his attitude problem. It takes much less effort to be pleasant than it does to scowl & growl at people when they ask for your help which after all Sir is your job. Just sayin! read more

Just bought a used Shopsmith here; good price for a working piece of equipment, and the box of extra parts included a milling chuck (alone worth the price paid). I agree with other reviewers that it would be better to have a slightly more flexible return policy (e.g. bring it back within a week and you get a refund of 90% of what you paid). My guess is that very few items would actually be returned, but everyone would feel more confident about making purchases, so they'd ultimately have more business. read more

Way over priced. Lack of selection, staff is rude. I've been in other restores and this is by far the worst. The attitude of the people who work here is absolutely ridiculous. They act put out if you ask about anything. And forget help out with anything. It used to be full of good treasures now it's just overpriced crap. It's funny I've seen things in this store with the price tag on it and they have the nerve to mark it up from the original price way up. Hello the whole idea is to make things affordable and reuseable. That's the other thing who takes every screw, every piece make it separate and then sell it for goodness sake it's ridiculous to have to try and find the parts to that door like the correct hinge or knob. Stop ruining things trying to make another buck. Whoever is in charge should be ashamed of themselves. This store is a joke. Overpriced garbage rude staff. I love going to the ReStore! This is a great place for finding repurposing materials and just about anything for small home projects. For the creative homesteader and crafter, the ReStore is a gold mine. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable. I have been to many Habitat for Humanity ReStore shops, and have had great experiences at most of them. However, the Nevada County ReStore is a JOKE! The employees are totally rude and pompous and they are VERY inconsistent with prices. It also irritates me that they don't test out the appliances before they sell them to you. They do guarantee that in the event that something doesn't work, they will take the item back and you will receive store credit. Store credit????? Why the hell would you pay.... say $200.00 for a stove, go to all the trouble of bringing it home, find out that its broken after you've installed it, and then try to return the damaged item that they sold you (damaged when they sold it to you cause, remember folks, they don't test stuff out!) for $200.00 store credit???!!!! Sorry, that was a long sentence. But c'mon now! That is REALLY BAD business on their part. I'd also like to mention that all of their stock is donated to them for FREE! Would it really hurt them to give refunds back; especially in our time of recession? I will go out of my way to avoid the Nevada County ReStore at all costs! read more

This store once was the go-to place before going to a hardware store. Today it's only a shadow of what it once was. Tools, construction materials, and fantastic finds are now almost gone and replaced by outdated furniture, second hand small appliances and other things nobody wants. We have enough traditional second-hand stores in this county and we don't need another. I hope those who run this facility take this criticism to heart. I've been to 12 other restores. This one is moderately organized - some areas are easy to find things, others such as plumbing and electrical is just heaps of piles to go through. Most of the prices are comparable to other stores, but some are too high. They even have identical items that are priced differently and when I questioned that, there was absolutely no flexibility on pricing - which is not the case with most other stores. The staff were openly helpful offering assistance. The biggest problem is NO BATHROOM and there is no other place close by so be PREPARED before you go there. read more

I have had nothing but good experiences with the Restore Store in Grass Valley. Sure most all the items have been previously used and you take your chances once purchased however there are many new items as well. Every business has certain ways of doing business.When purchasing, knowing that the item you are about to buy may or may not work and your only recourse is "store credit" if it doesn't. That would be the moment to decide if you want to accept their terms or pass on the purchase of that item. Depending on how handy you are your purchasing options are endless when buying at the Restore Store. The staff is first rate and very helpful with what I may be looking for. There are bargains to be found and treasures to bring home. It's always exciting to find that one of a kind item that the local retailers just can't supply. I almost always check here first before going to the retail stores and with a little patience usually find what I'm looking for. This is a great thrift store, focusing on items mostly for remodeling your home or your garden. We visit regularly and have bought a lot there over the past five years. They've recently created an entire "media" section, with electronics, vinyl albums, CDs, etc. There's a very cool DIY display of cute, funky stuff you can make out of recycled materials. It's very unfair that a June 2009, very negative review appears on the main review page. Restore hired a new manager about two years ago, Danny who used to own Wolf Creek Sports on East Main, and everything is much better now in all aspects of the store. It's gotten a lot more organized, and the displays of certain items are much better now (e.g., tile) than they used to be. For people who don't like their return policy, DON'T BUY anything there if you think it won't fit, won't keep working, you'll change your mind, or whatever. If you don't like their prices, DON'T BUY IT. Angry, vicious reviews say more about the reviewer than they do about this place. All proceeds go to a great cause -- helping locals become homeowners.
