I'm sorry to do this but maybe they will change their gift certificate program. My husband bought me a 100.00 one for Christmas. it was lost. I asked them if they had a copy of it and their system doesn't allow for a duplicate. the guy showed me the book they are written in and it showed both original white copy and the duplicate yellow copy used as an original too. he basically said I was out of luck. didn't they have to ring that 100.00 cash into the register as a gift certicate? wouldn't the bookkeeper find the 100.00 difference in the books if it wasn't rung up. Kudos to this business. I have a Makita electric compressor which I took in because it would not start. Prior to writing a service ticket, the gentleman who helped me, first took the compressor to an electrical outlet. He turned the knobs and the release switch at the bottom of the unit. Then he started it. Magic, it turned on right away. I had let someone else use my compressor and they had made adjustments to the knobs without my knowledge. Once everything was set correctly, the machine started. Apparently, the tank was already full (that's why it wouldn't come on). Once some of the air was released and there was room, the machine came on. I had to drive 1/2 an hour to get my equipment serviced so it was really nice that I didn't have to leave it and make a return trip to pick it up. They could have just written a ticket and had me leave it but they did a preliminary check first. I learned something new about my compressor and they saved me money and time by fixing my problem in a few minutes. I highly recommend this business for their integrity and customer service. I will definitely return. read more

I contacted Makita USA support over an out-of-square extension arm on my 10-week old Makita miter saw stand a WST06. I had not previously noticed that it was out of square. The person (I think it was Tony) told me I should have seen this in the first 30-days, that he didn't think there were any parts available, and basically spouted of another half-dozen difficulties before telling me to contact the nearest factory repair facility in Reno, which he did not have a phone number for. To his credit, he did somewhat belligerently discover a part number, from a document he said was not public or at least not available to me. It was a nonsense phone call, I can only assume there was resistance to providing 'service' on a product they did not sell. Makita products of which I have dozens I give 5 stars, the WST06 I give 4, and in this case so called "Makita Service" gets a Zero Stars from me. As for shopping locally, you got to be kidding . Fortunately, after over 20 years of using Makita (I have some 15 year old lithium tool batteries that still work) I have only even contacted Makita support by phone this one time :) read more

As a professional it would be so helpful if we had a competitive local tool shop to spend our money and keep it in town. Sadly the tool shed isn't such the place. You can find 100% mark up on accessories and buy beware. If you buy a new tool, walk out the front door and turn it on and it doesn't work you own it or you can get store credit to apply to more overpriced products. My advice is take the 25 min drive and save some money, but most important if something happens you can return it. read more

I needed to replace a Makita 18v drill. When I got it home I found that my 18v battery did not fit the new drill. Nowhere on the packaging did it say it used only certain types of 18v batteries. At any reputable store, they would have accepted a return of a completely unused product. But then I saw on my receipt "no returns" and "store credit on owners approval only". This policy was only disclosed to me on the receipt, after the sale was final. In retrospect, I overlooked some red flags. 1. There were only two people in the store, myself and the sales clerk. Nonetheless, the clerk simply pointed me at the drills, and made no effort to help me make a selection from the many choices. 2. Without asking about my needs, the clerk recommended a tool. I asked why it was the same price as another tool with more features. He said it may be on sale, checked on his computer, and then quoted a lower price. Who doesn't advertise their sale prices? Makes me wonder if they are just trolling for customers who don't question the higher price. 3. At the checkout, he informed me that there was a surcharge for using a credit card instead of a debit card. OK, I understand that credit cards have higher fees, but the policy steered me into using a debit card which has fewer consumer protections. I'm not going to return to the store to beg for a store credit, with the expectation that I'll be treated the same way when I use the credit. I just wasted $140 on something I can't use. I will never buy from The Tool Shed again! read more

I purchased a Makita electric wheelbarrow on sale below Amazon price at the Tool Shed. The tool shed had already assembled it which saved me time. The salesperson, Robin, was very knowledgeable, gave me a demonstration of the features and even helped me load it in my truck. I was very satisfied with the purchase. While I was there, I noticed that they carry Festool tools...another reason to return. It was a short drive from Auburn to their store in Grass Valley. read more

These guys are top notch. We use them for getting out specialty tools, and out guys use them for their personal drill kits and repairs. Prices close to online, but a real person you can bring it to when something breaks. Tony has always been a huge help in finding that perfect tool for every job. Oh my , I went to this place trying to find a tool I needed, and the owner was and is a complete dickhead ! I asked for thread cutting machine and the owner just treated me terribly ! Clearly he has other problems , that he has to treat customers like this ! I waited awhile before I did this review, until a similar situation happened to my neighbor . They are friendly and helpful and when I bought the wrong kind of saw blade, they didn't bat an eye lash when I returned it and helped me pick out the right one. Excellent front staff and a nice selection of in stock of tools. We dropped off a tool for a handle and trigger repair. We came back to pick up a box full of parts as if a 4 year old with a screwdriver and a sledgehammer got a hold of it. To make matters worse, they quoted us $500 for the replacement. Repairs and purchases in the future will happen some place else! read more

The counter person/owner(?) provided a replacement power cord for my Makita product. It was a Bosch cord which he said they used for both products. It did not have the heavy rubber strain relief where the cord enters the casing, but said that when they do the work, they re-use the existing strain relief. On my unit, the strain relief was found to be part of the cord/molded to it. I took the Makita to a local repair facility, Then revisited The Tool Shed and asked them to accept return of the cord. They would not, "policy". It was still in the original bag and as new. The counter person became angry that I would take the product somewhere else for repair. It became a degenerating discussion, so I just left. For $13, they lost any future business from me and for what? If it had been a purchase from B&C or most any of our other stores here, the return would have been handled expediently and in a friendly manner. read more

Had a Makita drill that needed warranty repair. Dropped off and an hour later it was finished and ready for pick up. Very polite and professional. My experience at other repair shops has been that "warranty" work is often slow, just meeting expectations. These guys took care of business! read more
