Candles, artwork, books, posters, plants, vintage finds, clothing, kitchen and household goods, records, the list of what these guys carry is soooooo long! This cute, not-so-little place is a pretty rad spot for finding cool things plus they have a room in the back with an actual stage where they serve up local talent on Sundays. This particular Sunday I went to listen to the cool classic rock jams played by One Way Street who were raising money for the homeless. They shared the stage periodically with other local talented singers and musicians. The stage room is dimly lit with lots of mixed seating via comfy couches, overstuffed chairs, barstools, and the like. They don't serve alcohol but you are allowed to bring your own. It was a pretty groovy way to spend a sleepy Sunday afternoon. The staff here is really nice too and very helpful. If you are looking for a cool item for yourself or as a gift and want to hear some local jams, head over to A to Zen. You'll fall in love!

    Piles of books nobody wants.

Awful. Entrance door number one opened up into what I would consider, back room, throw it in the bin, garbage. Still, I powered on. The place smelled awful. I get the antique/thrift "musty" funk, but this was down right offensive. Still, I powered on. Found an item of interest! The item can be found for less on Ebay shipping included. Saw a couple more items with premium prices. The prices were not offending. What was, is their misunderstanding of the word "thrift" with the word "antique" you must be one or the other. You can not be both. The third strike came when I was getting ready to venture further into the store where items, that probably should be promoted in the front, were. I was stopped in my tracks by the repellent odor of cigarette smoke wafting in through a just opened door. Employee was smoking at the door and she left her still smoldering butt on the ledge of the door handle. Ewww. Just ewww. This store has such potential but is too high on the icky scale and the prices are way too high to qualify as a thrift store.

This is the most well-stocked Barnes & Noble bookstore I have ever been in. Their fiction section…read morewas incredibly diverse and had a lot of my favorite authors. The shelves were brimming and there was plenty of staff on hand to help find things and answer questions. Normally, I am an independent bookstore supporter and I do still buy the majority of my books from smaller independent booksellers. Unfortunately, I haven't found an independent bookstore in Nevada -- North or South -- that compares to the likes of Vroman's in Pasadena (if you have a recommendation, I am all ears). That said, if you are in the Reno area and want a brick and mortar bookstore with a huge selection, this is the place. And they do offer some decent discounts, so keep an eye out for the books that have been marked down. I was able to pick up a first edition of Patti Smith's new memoir at 50% off!

The employees were nice, particularly the young lady that helped my niece; she patiently looked up the title of the book even though my niece didn't have all the information. While inside Barnes & Noble, we also stopped by Starbucks to indulge in some sweet treats before making our way out the store. Even though our visit was fruitless (book-wise, not drink-wise), we still had a positive shopping experience.

They have new and used books as well within a reasonable price point. I found lots of great educational books from my preschooler. I even find coloring books and other things they are interested it. If you please. Parking lot is there, but as they are popular can get crowded. Overall its a wonderful place that we visit so often.

With the loss…read moreof Zephyr Books many years ago and the Book Gallery in Sparks, there just aren't enough quality used bookstores any longer. Grassroots Books is a very good used bookstore with a lot of variety of material-- children's books, DVD's, some records, gently used paperback and hardcover books. Hours are flexible for when they are open, however, they only buy books on Thursdays during the afternoon. I have never been tempted much to sell anything to them over the years, as they tend to be quite choosy with the material that they want and don't want. As a longtime book collector, this is important to maintaining a quality used stock and helps with inventory management. I highly recommend Grassroots for your next book adventure!
