I was looking forward to trying Charles because I had heard good reviews about it. At this time, I would not go out of my way to go there again unless I needed to charge my car. It's clear that management needed to step in and help the kitchen. The person taking the order did his best, but had to ask for change which did not arrive for at least five minutes. The first time I ordered the classic Philly, the food was fine, which I would expect, but, it took a good bit of time to get my food. The second time, after waiting far too long to place my order, the food, again, took way too long but was up to its average consistency. My last visit, I walked in, no one at the counter, again, two people waiting, looked in the back, a cook and a cashier casually having a conversation, remembering my past visits I simply left, to no resistance or notice for that matter. I'm done, they don't improve, they serve average corporate food that takes far too long, the place has no vibe or atmosphere, why on earth, with all the other selections within walking distance would I waste my money on this poorly run, cookie cutter corporate establishment? I don't recommend it, nor will I be back, just another Tallahassee disappointment.....

However, on a recent trip I discovered something a bit disturbing and honestly confusing. I was with a group of colleagues, and three of us have Alpha Gal (red meat allergy caused by the lone star tick). Thankfully I desensitized myself enough that I can eat SOME red meat. The other two are highly sensitive. I ordered the wings again and passed them around to share. One of my AG friends ate one and the other asked the waitress if there is cross contamination. We were informed that the wings are fried in BEEF tallow. I panicked because the one friend is so sensitive that she can't even go to a petting zoo with hoofed mammals without reacting. So lucky that she had taken an Allegra that day which helps with the allergy enough that one wing fried with beef fat won't cause anaphylaxis. However, if the other girl had eaten it, she very likely could have had a terrible reaction. It does not state on the menu that the wings are fried in beef tallow. It's very important that allergens such as this are noted. I would never have thought myself that it was fried in beef fat. I would've thought it was vegetable or peanut oil. I would hope that this restaurant will add red meat allergens to their menu as Alpha Gal is becoming more and more common. Better yet, don't use beef products to cook chicken products.
