A-1 installed carpet a few years ago. I've had a few issues (probably because of installer not stretching carpet enough). Shawn at A-1 had the first problem corrected by replacing the carpet. He sent Eddie out today to fix a small issue. No excuses, no run arounds. The service and response has been outstanding. I really hate to ever have to write a bad review, but after over a year of trying to get our carpet repaired, I really have no choice. We purchased our carpet in September 2020. The salesman gave us an install date, but on the date, we called and they said they couldn't install for another 2 weeks. We noticed two small ripples right when it was installed and pointed them out. They were supposed to repair, but never did. Time went by and we stopped following up. Now every room and every stair has ripples. The tacks at the edges are also installed incorrectly and our daughter has cut herself. I reached back out for repairs and they got back to me but still haven't come out to try to fix it. At this point we need to replace our carpet completely and it's been less than 2 years. Exceptional place!!! Steve and I wanted to replace the carpet in our Agoura Hills home and knew we wanted to do wood flooring. We went to multiple places and then I found A-1 Flooring in Thousand Oaks through Yelp, so we stopped by one day. Shawn was extremely helpful and patient while we selected our wood floors. He is very knowledgeable about laminate vs engineered wood vs hardwood. Of all the places we had been to (including a discount commercial supplier), A-1 had the best prices. Installation was exceptional, too. Here is what the flooring A1 installed looks like 6 months later with literally no wear at all (it is an attic playroom). This is wood laminate that is pock-marked everywhere. I went by today to show them how awful it looks and Bruce shrugged his shoulders and offered no resolution. This work was done by them as a token resolution for other installation issues- they covered over our heating floor vents, floored around a closet instead of under it, etc. It is unsightly as well as full of holes that can not be cleaned, and present a risk. read more

So happy we went with A1 to replace all of the flooring in our house! From the moment I walked into the showroom alone with my two young boys, they were so friendly and helpful. They made some balloons the boys and offered them a sucker to keep them busy while I looked around. And even when the kids started to run around a bit, they were very understanding and were never once rude. I, too, received multiple quotes from some of the top rated flooring places on Yelp, and the best numbers were provided by A1; not to mention they were easily the most helpful during the process of choosing our flooring. It is stressful picking new flooring for your entire home, on top of being on a time crunch to move in before escrow closes on our previous home. But they made the process smooth and ultimately we couldn't be happier with the end result! Also, to address what one reviewer recently posted about supposedly being over measured... one of the most comforting things about Kevin was how precise his measuring was. Additionally, I was shown (without asking) a to-scale grid of the measurements of my house and they pointed out exactly where every scrap of carpet would be used - down to each step on the stairs. Carpet comes in a standard size roll and obviously not all rooms are that size or shape; but the fact that they literally account for every single piece cut from the roll and found a spot where it would work was amazing. We had very little carpet, and less than one box of laminate, left in the end. Measurements were perfect! I absolutely recommend, at the very least, stopping by their showroom during your search for new floors! My wife and just moved into a new home with Pets. We specifically were looking to replace carpets with something that would be suitable for pets and we communicated that when we made the appointment. The sales rep showed up unprepared so we had to have a follow on appointment. They left us some samples and said we could test them by pouring bleach on them and seeing how it works. So, we did and the carpets did not clean up as expected. Because of that, we started to reconsider our choice and look at engineered wood floors. When the rep followed up to see if we wanted to go forward he said "I wish you would have made that decision earlier so you didn't waste my time." That's an exact quote. A-1 Carpet was outstanding in every respect from when Alex came out to our house to measure the rooms and do the estimate to the workers removing our old carpet to them installing our new floor. Alex at A-1 is a true gentleman and you can tell he wants to ensure that everything they do for you is done to your satisfaction. We eventually went to A-1's large showroom, which has many flooring samples to choose from, and picked the flooring type/color we wanted which is a very high-quality wood laminate. We had them install in four of our bedrooms including the closets, and our stairway, and the landing/hallway. The workers who came to the house were very prompt, and worked hard and diligently to get the job done as quickly and efficiently as possible. They took care of everything from moving the furniture in and out and around the rooms to taking out and hauling away our old carpet that they removed before installing the floors. Two-and-a-half days and they were done. Additionally, their prices were very reasonable which was an extremely important factor in our initial decision to use them. These guys are good people. I saw another reviewer with the EXACT complaint we have. Alex physically came to our home (they refuse to bring any samples, just fyi), and he saw we had TWO pianos. He insisted it was no problem. Then, when the installers came, they were in shock. Alex wants to sell carpet. He doesn't care how. The installers were told only "move furniture" on their To Do list, and then Alex played stupid for the rest of the installation. We have SO many pianos, we could have OF COURSE ordered piano movers HAD WE KNOWN. Don't go here - they just want to sell carpet. Really, it's Alex that's the problem. Yelp will not allow me to respond to an owners response. So I'm doing an "update" review. Your first salesman Andy or Anthony (?) who did or measure was pushy and had a problem with respect for women. I did not want to work with him. Your second salesman Herach was "nice enough" but turned out to be clueless. He never inspected our floor like he said he would after Andy did his wham bam quickie measure. (Which was off, by the way) "Nice" only goes so far, when you are being PAID to advise customers so they dont waste time and money, and actually come to their homes and see the space that is to be worked on. First salesman Andy or whoever, was so much more interested in that DEPOSIT that he couldn't have cared less about anything else but money. AND if Herach had been familiar with the product -- like read the instructions -- we could have done the subfloor work BEFORE the install, but that didn't happen so you wasted your own time and ours. FYI, the head installer suggested cork underlayment which is NOT on the list of approved subfloor underlayment for our product -- so sorry that response about underlayments doesn't fly. If we'd gone with cork, we'd have been in the same place, tearing up newly laid flooring!!! Your installation guy was "nice" and reachable and all that, but again that's superficial stuff - he wasn't even there for the install, his group of baboons were, who didn't know English or how to communicate or respect someone's home. Jessica several times made and cancelled appointments, which negates how "nice" they are. Oh, and your certified letter came over a month after my letter, no phone call? Even though I provided you my phone number and email? It's obvious that you've been here before, and were trying to extend the time, because you knew full well mastercard will not cover me beyond 3 months with a dispute - this is what my credit card company even told me!! So glad you got your full amount of money for work that you didn't finish. Congratulations on scamming a middle class family. Oh, and I texted your installer ONE time to ask some advice. OH WOW that deserves full payment for install then, doesn't it??? I mean, how ridiculous! And then, you tried to charge me for the 6 extra boxes of product, don't you remember. The product YOUR BABOONS broke!! I came with photos of what they had broken and you actually tried to charge me for it. Lol. Bottom line here, Kevin, is you are taking a stance that you are unwilling to negotiate with us for any recompense at all. We paid for 100% of the labor and got perhaps 40%. That's my ultimate point. So I wonder why you think you're entitled to all of our money, though you did not complete all the work??? Oh and also you never gave us a timetable of when we could possibly expect your men to finish our little condo project - that's why we did it ourselves, genius. I'm not someone who leaves bad reviews (this is my first one ever). But that's how bad my experience was with this place. I called to have someone come over to my place for an estimate on flooring. In the beginning, all was fine. The man was friendly, talked to me about flooring, took measurements, etc. They wouldn't send me the estimate - I had to come in person to the store. I was ok with that. As he was putting together the estimate, I saw his measurements were a long list of handwritten numbers, with no explanations at to what they were. Then, when I got the estimate, it looked WAY off. Like thousands of dollars and hundreds of square feet off. I politely questioned his numbers, and he got very defensive saying that he is meticulous and measures everything, etc. But then after a few more questions, I realized he was pricing me for hardwood in rooms that I specifically wanted carpet, and the laundry room where I wanted laminate. So he reluctantly redid the numbers. He was still over 300 sq feet more than the other two estimates I received, but since he couldn't explain the numbers he wrote, I didn't understand how. When I asked him about this, he got very upset and said "Fine, you can order the amount you want, but if you don't have enough, then that's on you." I was surprised at the response - seemed like a rude way to deal with a legitimate question. Most other people would just explain the numbers... So I decided to go with another flooring place, which I had an excellent experience with, from start to finish. But here's the kicker -- about six weeks later A1 Carpet called to check in with me about what I decided. I politely told them that I decided to go with another company, and that same man got REALLY MAD with me over the phone, yelling at me that he did so much hard work, and that I didn't have the decency to call him and tell him that I wasn't using them, and that I made him have to call me, etc, etc. It was such a shock. I've never been yelled at like that... and for what?? All he did was put together a free estimate for me, so I'm really unsure of what he felt entitled to. I've gotten many estimates over the years and this was completely out of left field. I honestly don't believe he would have spoken to a man that way. So, to make a long story short, I feel like I dodged a major bullet by not going with them. read more
