Well lets see here. I called on a Monday totally explained the situation and was told, sure we can do it. Then was told next service date would be in two weeks, a Saturday. Bummer! A minute later, he retracted the appointment date and told me, "How's about this upcoming Thursday?" I was ecstatic, YES! I expected them to call on a Wednesday as they said they were to confirm the Thursday appointment, NADA! Comes Thursday, no phone call. No service person at my door trying to make money. We had never worked with Jim but were excited to based on his Yelp reviews. We agreed he would order a part, then there was no contact for a week. We called him to follow up. I think he just forgot about us, but he claims he "decided" to not work with us because we were out of town and was worried about not getting paid (this makes no sense - he takes credit cards over the phone). Jim also told me the part is in his van, but told my wife he never ordered it. Jim is fairly rough around the edges, but it only matters when it translates into unreliability and poor communication. The only reason I give 2 stars instead of one is that he somewhat apologized on the phone for never informing us of his decision to not do the work we agreed to. That apology doesn't help you, Yelper. Jim also may have some trust issues. If you deal with him, I would suggest that you avoid asking more than one or two questions - he sees this as questioning his expertise, and it gives him a "bad feeling". We're now working with Robert The Fit-It-guy (5 stars, 101 reviews) and it's going much better. read more

I thought my fridge/freezer had gone kaput .. so i called on a Saturday afternoon. C.D. came within 3 hours - as promised and he did call twice to give me updates on his ETA - and agreed on checking it out that a 20 lbs bag of ice had prevented the door from closing! but he fixed my ice maker and advised me on the water dispenser and filter before leaving. very pleasant, appreciates the Yelp reviews, and promised to return within 30 days if i have any problem. We were having an issue with our washer not draining and with it being older was concerned it was cutting out. I called up Jim on a Saturday and he was quick to schedule the following day. He was prompt in telling me that he was running a little behind due to traffic. When he arrived he quickly got to work and was very friendly. After digging into it, it turned out that the pump was clogged. He could have told me it was broken, and needed to be replaced but was quite ok with just clearing it out and putting it back in. Even taking the time to show me how next time. He tested it twice before leaving and since it had been a load of whites, even added some bleach since it had been stuck in the water about a day. I would highly recommend him if you find yourself in need of repair. read more

My Dryer made a crazy noise, so after looking on Yelp I figured why not? all in one had more good than bad, and after calling around was the cheapest and quickest I could find. I spoke with Jim as soon as I called and he offered to come out that same night! and it was close to 6pm when I called him! that same night wasn't good for me, so he came out the next day. He called right away to let us know that he was running late, and asked if it was ok, or if we would need to reschedule, but it was perfect. I appreciated him calling and keeping us in the loop on when he would be there. we got to us exactly when he said he would. It was snowing out the night he came, and I know Chicago streets can be a pain when it snows, so it was totally cool. As soon as Jim got here, he got right to work and was done super quick! he told us how to prevent the same thing from happening again! The best part was since it took no parts to fix it he only charged us the estimate fee! Thanks JIM! Our refrigerator broke on a Sunday morning, and we called. Jim came out in a few hours and did a great job fixing the problem. He was prompt and neat. I chose to work with All In One based on Yelp reviews so I had high hopes. Jim was prompt in responding to our phone message and offered to come and see the unit the following night. After hearing about the problem with our washer over the phone he felt confident it was the timer and asked if he could save us the cost of the visit by purchasing a timer first. This sounded a little odd to us but we asked if we would be charged if he ended up being incorrect and the repair required something other than the timer. He said we wouldn't be charged and we went ahead and authorized him to order the timer. He said he would call our tenant to set up at time to do the repair once the part came in. A few days went by and we didn't hear anything. We called him and he awkwardly told us he wasn't planning on doing the repair and hadn't ordered the part. He had not notified us or our tenant of his change of heart. He claimed he felt that there were "trust" issues which I can only assume had to do with us asking whether we would be charged if his guess was wrong. Having NEVER notified any of us that he was backing out, we wasted precious time and did not get the repair done. It was disappointing and unprofessional. read more

Called him on a Sunday because our refrigerator was leaking. He was at the house within 2hrs and didn't charge us anything extra because it was Sunday. The repair turned out to be minor. Cost us $100, but he offered great advice, showed us how to do the repair ourselves if it happened again. Plus, he'll waive his $89 visit fee if we have any other appliance issues in the next 90 days. He'll also waive everything if we have the same refrigerator problem within the next year. read more

This guy is horrible. I called him on Saturday and he said that he could be at my place within the hour and fix my refrigerator in approximately 15-20 minutes. Additionally, he said that if he did not have the part or could not fix my refrigerator then he would not charge me the $79 visit fee. Over 3 hours later he arrived, but was too cheap to pay for parking so he called from downstairs and said that he would need to come back tomorrow with a buddy to watch his van to avoid being ticketed or towed. Who drives to downtown expecting to find free parking!?! An experienced repair person should know his service area and arrive with assistance if needed. So basically, I wasted my entire afternoon waiting for nothing. On Sunday, he said he would come in the morning so I skipped church to wait for him. As usual, he was hours late and did not show up until the afternoon. When I opened the door he looked frazzled so I asked him if he was okay. He then started complaining about how the Mexicans are stealing work from him. Very off colored subject to discuss so I stopped him by showing him my refrigerator. He opened the door, saw frost, and said that he would need to order a part to fix it. Then he told me to give him $79 today and have $175 ready for him when he comes back with the new part. Whoa, this was not what I was expecting. He didn't take out any tools, didn't run any computer diagnostics, he basically didn't do anything except open the door and pull a quote out of the air which took him 30 seconds total and wanted $79 for labor. I looked at him and reminded him that he said he would not charge me for the visit if he did not have the part to fix my refrigerator on the first trip out. He then got mad and said, "Forget it. Its my own fault. You ***** people always want everything for free" (I do not want to repeat the word that he said, but you can fill in the blank yourself with an ethnic group). I was appalled. I then proceeded to remind him again that he made me wait 2 days for him to come over and that he assured me on the phone that he could fix the frig on the same visit or else he would not charge me for the visit. He had no response and simply stormed off. The entire fiasco occurred in under 5 minutes, but it cost me 2 days of waiting and a full day of bitter anger toward the fact that I let a dishonest bigot enter my house. In summary, the guy is unprofessional, unethical, and an extreme racist. It seems like he is running a scam to make a quick $79 in under 5 minutes. However, you do not need to take my word for it. Go ahead and call him if you're curious. I guarantee that you will gain a glimpse of what I mean within a couple of minutes from speaking with him over the phone. There is only one person who works at All-in-One Appliance Repair company. Yes, it is a one person shop with a listed phone number that only functions as a forwarding service to his cell phone. The number listed does not connect you to an office or physical residence. Very questionable if you ask me. Definitely avoid. In all honesty, I would give him a negative star rating if it were possible. read more

My refrigerator had been going out for nearly a month. I was about to go out and buy a new one but decided to give it a shot at repairing it. I was happy I did. I called Jim in the morning and he was able to diagnose the problem over the phone. He offered to come fix it right away. However, because I was at work I could not do it during the day and he then agreed to come over that evening. Because he's so flexible I did not have to take any time off work or ruin a Saturday. When he arrived he opened the fridge and confirmed his diagnosis right away. He knew exactly what to do and within an hour my fridge was working like new. He even offered to take a look at my other appliances before he left to make sure they were running okay and he gave me several tips to prevent future problems. On top of all that he offered good conversation while he worked. Extremely satisfied with their services. I've found my appliance repairman for life. read more

It's this guy named Jim who works for himself. He was able to come out right away. His rate for coming out was $69 for 2 dryers. That's pretty good, because most places will charge you $69 for the 1st appliance and $35 for anything else. His fee was the best I could find, and since he's small, he seemed willing to negotiate on things. He was also very honest about what should be done. He's not a salesman by any means. That's nice, because he wouldn't seem very comfortable cheating you, but he that also means he comes off a little rough..which is fine with me since you don't need to be charming to fix appliances. I'd recommend him unless someone has a reason to say otherwise. read more

I have to disagree with the other reviewers...this person came out 4 times and was unable to figure out what was wrong with my appliance! He charged me $89 for the first visit, and then had to keep coming back with different parts. Additionally, he would show up a couple hours late for appointments; and like everyone else, it is difficult for me to sit around all day and wait. Call the Fix-it Guy in Kenwood. He came out, looked at my machine and in 5 mins was able to tell me what was wrong with it, and helped me come up with a good replacement solution (it was toast!). Additionally, he did not charge me one cent for his time! can't beat that! Plus Fix-it Guy has had experience working for one of the biggest appliance repair shops in town (affiliated with major retailer...) so he knows what he is doing! read more

I wish I could give NO stars. Had another problem with my washing machine that it would not spin. Of course, based on my previous experiences, I called Jim. He said he could make it in a few days, he was super busy and I thought he was worth the wait. Well, on the day promised he could not make it because his truck broke down. He suggested another company which I called and they were closed, it was a Sunday. When I called him back, he said he could now not make it for several more days. Confusing to me since he promised he would be there that day, now I go back to the bottom of the list??? Obviously he did not want the business and just could not say so. On a suggestion from a friend I called "The Fix IT Guy" and they were fab. Will never use Jim again and may even delete my 5 star review. read more

Checked out Jim's reviews on Yelp and figured I'd give him a shot. Came home from a business trip to find the frig only partially working. Called Jim and he worked around my schedule (I travel quite a bit) to find a time to come out and diagnose the problem. He knew exactly what was wrong and we scheduled a date to have the part replaced. Again, he made every effort to work around my schedule, even offering to come out on a Sunday. He's a one man show and he's all over the Chicago area so you need to have a little patience but to me he was worth it. made an appointment with Sears for frig repair. Sears says they use these folks. They never showed up after waiting all afternoon. Given time of 1-5pm. I call them around 4pm and am told they are not showing up, done for the day. They will come tomorrow, like I have nothing to do the next day! I signed up for Yelp just to review this guy. I called Jim for a 2nd opinion on my GE fridge and based on the reviews I initially thought i can't go wrong. Wow i'm stunned at how others thought he was a nice guy. Well to start he had an unpleasant demeanor walking through my door- my 4yr old daughter said hi and he didn't respond nor cracked a smile. He appeared to have a little chip on his shoulder. Regardless of the above, I'm most annoyed with his extremely defensive behavior when we questioned his parts/labor breakout (ALL - make sure you always ask this!). Many independ. repairmen pad their labor cost and after you figure out the costs of the parts, their labor can be astronomical (their way to rip you off). I don't expect many repairmen to be warm & fuzzy but this guy was a straight-up $@#$%. Moreover, he was uncomfortable with how much my hubbie and I knew about the cost of the refridgerator part and therefore he became defensive, rude, and very curt. I don't know what more I can say about a guy that showed up on a Sunday night, a few hours after I called, and fixed my refrigerator that had broken down. Jim is an interesting guy, he may seem cranky at first (so do I) but that's because he works really hard, harder than any of us, and if you talk to him you'll hear some interesting insights on life. He had to rig some of the parts on my job-the motor had fried-but he got the job done. He's pretty reasonable too. My girlfriend will not use a business unless she yelped it first, so we read the reviews regarding All in One before calling. My fridge stopped cooling for a week or so when we called for an appointment. My appointment was set for between 12 and 2:00 on a Saturday. Around 1:30 I get a call from Jim saying he is on a job that has ran late and he will be there around 3 or 3:15. He was there right at 3:15. Rarely do I get a call 30 minutes before telling me someone is going to be late. That was appreciated. Turned out just need a freon charge. Jim did so right away and was very friendly the whole time there. When I went to pay him I realized i had left my checkbook at work and didn't have enough cash on hand. He told me to not worry about it, that I could just pay him in a week or two. REALLY???? That's crazy....crazy awesome! I mean, who operates on trust like that these days. Fortunately, my girlfriend happened to come home right then and had her checkbook, so all was good. I found the only appliance repairman I will ever use, providing he's around. read more

Rude and don't do their jobs!!! Jamie came out to fix my washer/dryer that wasn't working and all the guy did was ask questions, press a button and say it's working. 20 min after he leaves the same problem occurs so I call him and say I need you to come back out because it's not fixed. He says lose your attitude, it was fixed when I left, I don't know what you did to it, stop overloading your machine. Instead of insulting him like he insulted me, which I could have done since he didn't do the job right or should I say at all, I hung up and tried to calm down. Funny thing is there was only 6 small items in machine when HE started it and left saying it was fine... Now he refuses to come back and fix it saying I'm the rude one... WILL NEVER EVER USE THESE PEOPLE AND WILL MAKE SURE EVERYONE I KNOW DOES THE SAME!!!! read more

We had a representative come out that was recommended by our Warranty Company. After several calls and 2 claim numbers a representative made a lengthy trip to our house on a Saturday evening at 5:00 PM which was greatly appreciated. This is when everything went significantly downhill. He said he would fax the information Monday which is against their practice as in the past contractors contact the home warranty for authorization before they leave and then I make my copay before the contractor leaves and our home warranty company verified to me this is still the correct procedure and they have been excellent. It turns out as we found after a month with no dishwasher that through repeated calls and efforts by several parties they stopped answering the phones and basically stole my 85 Dollar Copay. My warranty company allowed me at that point to have a second individual of my choice come out. I did have to pay in full but they are sending me a reimbursement per my contract with them and to make matters even worse A1 Expert Appliance spent less than 2 minutes looking at my dishwasher, never turned it on and said it's the control panel. Turns out that was misdiagnosed as well as it was all 3 major components of my dishwasher. I gave them one more shot this morning to call, clarify, and ask for my money back and he was very rude to me said a few things that weren't very respectful and then had the nerve to hang up on me. I don't usually do reviews unless positive but made this decision with regards to this series of unfortunate events to do my best to protect and notify as many potential customers as I can from doing business with and from this unethical business. They are the absolute last company I would ever try again and highly recommend against using them. I'd suggest staying as far from them as you can as they will use you as well as they used myself and my wife. read more

I made a next day appointment and was given a 2 hour window period for when he would arrive. 20 minutes after the window was up I called them and found out that they had no intention of coming out or calling me to let me know. He claimed he was too overbooked to call or keep the appointment. I wasted an entire Saturday morning on this guy and didn't even get a phone call. read more

Do not use this company. We scheduled a repair for our Dryer. Jim and his partner came out the next day. While there he broke the piece that covers up the control panel and knocked the bulb loose or broke it and had already put the front back on. He was going to come back once the part was ordered and fix the bulb and the part and never came back. I have been calling and texting him at least once a week for the last 7 weeks. He has given me the run around. Finally last week he told me he would come out on Saturday and return the broken piece so that we could at least find a way to fix it and replace the bulb and of course did not show up. I would not recommend this company at all. You will not get what you paid for and he will take payment and never come back and finish the job. We live in Bridgeport only 2-3 minutes from where he is at and still not the courtesy of replacing the bulb and returning the piece. I do not get how you can do business like this. From reading the reviews I guess I did not do my homework very well before scheduling him. read more
