This place has always been one of my go to places for Chaat it Scarborough. I like their food, I like the sweets they have. The eat in situation isn't really great, which is what prevents it from hitting five stars. But otherwise, I have been eating here for years and don't have any plans on stopping.

We were a few blocks away and let's looking for an Indian (casual) place, when I remembered that the A1 from Oakville has a branch in Scarborough, lucky we were less than five minute drive away. Ordered two Thalia with naan and a Methi Potato with Roti the Potato being one of the two non dairy option on the menu. The service was a bit slow even though the restaurant being not super busy. But as soon as the naans and roti made in tandoor were ready we were quickly served. The place needs a bit of clean up, not overly dirty it compared to the one Oakville it certainly needs some clean up. The naans were super fresh and fluffy and rotis my preferred option were made to perfection. Warm, soft and whole wheat- yum! Could have eaten just the rotis plain. The Potato needed some additional seasonings as we all felt it lower in salt. The Okra had too much oil. Traditionally that's how Okra is cooked (with little or no water), however some places we have seen have taken care of that problem. The rest of the dishes were good, only the Malai Kofta had green peas, which was out place. For $8+taxes for Thali its a fair price.

I am not a vegetarian and I didn't USED to like spicy food, but this was the place that turned it all around for me. I really like the to go meals but we just tried to eat in this time and it was surprisingly nicely setup. According to my Indian friend, this place has everything that you can think of for vegetarian Indian cuisine. When I first started going here, I was sweating while eating. Don't anymore but still, some good eats.

PLACE: A1 is a great place to get Indian food especially when you want to eat at home or take it out else where! They do have seats in the restaurant but its not a fancy place and definitely not a restaurant type of place as people are always coming in and leaving. The seating area is not the cleanest, but after renovating, it has gotten better. The parking lot has plenty of space for people to park as its in a plaza. FOOD: The veggie biryani can come to cater your spice needs (mild or hot). I eat a lot of spicy food so when its hot and fresh, the biryani is spicy which I like! It comes with the pickled carrots/onions, raita, and the biryani itself topped with paneer the first time that I got this, but the second time was almonds. The raita and biryani is a good pair and tasted delicious.I'm not a fan of the carrots but I have many friends who enjoy it and even ask for extras! The thali is a great deal to get! It comes with 3 curries, naan or roti, a dessert, salad, rice, and raita (yogurt type of side). The curries were delicious, creamy, and just the right amount of saltiness and sweetness. Some of the curries could be spicer but majority of the population don't like it that way which makes sense why they wouldn't increase their spice level. Overall, I enjoyed the curries. They have tons of paneer curry options which I love! The salad is not enough and I wish there was more especially cause it's split with the rice portion. However, they do make it up with the naan or roti you get. They have a variety of sweets aligned for you to pick right away as well. SERVICE: They are fast and friendly. If you call in and order or order online, its even faster! I was in and out within 5 minutes. PRICE: Amazing prices for the amount of food we get. $4.99 for the biryani and $7.99 or so for thali.

I'm not a vegetarian by any means, but I love A1 for my Indian food cravings. Typically I get their thali (a choice of 3 veggie dishes, 1 sweet dish, rice, salad and roti) for $8.49! Filling, delicious and a great deal. I don't have any way of measuring what the dishes are supposed to taste like, but I LOVE their malai kofta and palak paneer, and ADORE their samosas with tamarind sauce... SO good!

A regular go-to for my family, we mainly go for the the vegetable thali. Great little takeout place with fair prices. Especially love that I can switch the dessert item with another subji.

Overall decent indian food at a great price. My standard order is the $7.99 thali, I love the variety it offers. My favorites are the shahi paneer, potato eggplant, matar paneer and aloo tikki. I wish they offered the aloo baingan (potato eggplant) as an everyday offering, I have to order a party tray every time I want it (which I do, I like it that much). Sometimes the curries have a thick layer of oil sitting on the top, the samosas are okay (nothing special) and the chana masala has been oversalted all 5x I have tried it. Other than that, great variety at an affordable price.

The sweets for Diwali, good selection.

The staff were kind, and allowed me to make modifications to party trays that were on a pre-set menu. Pricing is very affordable and you definitely get a bang for your buck! Now on to the food! This is a vegan sushi restaurant, and the amount of items on their menu is crazy. All different types of rolls, sashimi, appetizers the list goes on. I got a few different items because I wanted to give this place a fair shot. I ordered the Gyoza (7/10 a little soggy but flavourful), Chicken Soy Kaarage (9/10 so good!!), Spicy Broccoli Roll (8/10), California Roll (9/10), Sweet Yam Tempura Roll (9/10 Delicious), Soy Kani Tempura Roll (9/10, tastes exactly like imitation crab), Dynamite Roll (9/10), King Mushroom Special Roll (10/10). Everything beyond exceeded my expectations and I highly recommend you check this place out if you're a sushi lover or vegan/vegetarian looking for a perfect meal! 9/10 would recommend!!

When dipped in the sauce, could really fool you into thinking its chicken. Also have tried the mac and cheese and fried rice. Their drinks/ smoothies are delivious too. I recommend the avocado. Wasnt a fan of the bbq pork buns(dry and not enough filling). I removed 1 star for the customer service. At Graceful, they actually offer dishes that contain no mock meat, such as straight tofu and bean curd varieties with fresh vegetables (as a non-meat eater, I'm not a big fan of mock meats). The food here seems to be a hit with both vegetarians and non-vegetarians. The restaurant is easily spottable as there are huge signs and entrances from both outside and inside the mall. The interior is not very big - just one big room, but has a cozy and comfortable ambiance with Chinese decorations. There was a table with take-out snack and dessert items right at the entrance, where you can buy packages of cashew nuts, Chinese cookies, and glutinous rice-based snacks / desserts. Service was very friendly, quick, and much better than the service you'd find at most other Chinese restaurants anywhere else. We were presented with 3 menus: dim sum menu (where you mark the items you want to order yourself with a pencil), special dishes menu (with coloured photos), and the main menu (came in a paper booklet). We ordered a combination of dishes from the dim sum and main menus. DIM SUM - Vegetarian Shiu Mai: Loved it! The texture was very smooth and I could see the pieces of vegetables (maybe carrot, radish, water chestnut, mushrooms) in the shiu mai. - Mock BBQ Eel: We ordered this one just out of curiosity. This was my least favourite item out of the ones we ordered. It came out as cubed pieces of deep-fried gluten, covered in sweet sauce and a bit of sesame seeds. Not a fan of deep-fried stuff, and I didn't like the sweet sauce. It had zero resemblance (both visually and taste-wise) to eel (we didn't expect it to be... just wanted to see how this dish would turn out). - Mock Sliced Abalone Sashimi: This was okay, but it could do without the sauce. I liked the firm texture, just like abalone. It was served with a small dollop of wasabi (not needed, in my opinion). MAIN DISHES - Stir-Fried Tofu, Cabbage, Carrot, and Wood Ear Mushrooms: My absolute favourite dish here! We ordered it because I read another Yelp reviewer wrote that this dish was great, non-greasy, and non-oily. They were correct (thank you)! Glad we got this. The tofu was nice and firm with a chewy texture, and I loved all the vegetables that came with this dish. As a big fan of stir-fried cabbage and wood ear mushrooms, this was an easy win. I liked that it wasn't covered in thick sauce and not oily or greasy. - Egg Whites and Mock Crab Meat on Broccoli: Broccoli was a bit on the soft side, but I liked this dish for the combination of fresh vegs and a huge amount of lean protein (egg whites) on top. It was a big dish, and we got to take home some of the egg whites. - Crispy Egg-Free Noodles with Bean Curd Slices and Bitter Melon: This came with too much thick sauce (although I liked the black pepper), but the parts with the still-crispy noodles were good. The protein was actually called "Mock Beef" in the menu, but it was really bean curd slices. I liked the bitter melon the best in this dish, minus the sauce. Overall, this was a great place for Chinese vegetarian food. There was a wide variety of items to choose from, ranging from dim sum (small dishes) to larger main dishes, and all sorts of cooking styles (steamed, stir-fried, deep fried, soup, hot pot, etc.). In the fried rice section of the menu, it was written that they could make all of the fried rice vegan by omitting the eggs (good option for those who want them to be vegan). The 2 stand-outs of this restaurant were the quality and taste of the dishes (especially the ones with tofu / bean curd and actual vegetables), and the service. The gentleman who worked there (perhaps the manager or owner) really cared about his customers and acted like an owner - greeting us, making sure we were taken care of, giving us extra napkins and utensils when asked, explaining each dish that came out, and said goodbye as we were leaving. I plan on coming back to try some of their other dishes on the menu (still lots to choose from!).

We used to love getting their Mac and cheese mutton rolls - they used to be so flavourful and a great fusion short eat. We were in the area and got their Mac n Cheese Mutton Rolls as well as their Butter Chicken Rolls and I can't express how disappointed we were. The Mac n Cheese Mutton rolls were underwhelming - it was as though they just added macaroni pasta to the mutton curry filling. It wasn't cheesy/creamy like it used to be. The filling was also underseasoned - missing salt, just not flavourful at all. The butter chicken roll was okay, again underseasoned. For $2.50 a roll, I expected a LOT better. We also got the Chicken Briyani. It didn't come with all the fixings like the Briyanis used to - no boiled egg, no fish cutlet. The rice was bland - almost like it was just rice and turmeric. The chicken curry was underseasoned like the rolls, not enough salt or flavour. The tandoori chicken leg was the only decent thing from this meal. The meal was disappointing, I regret buying it. Lastly, we got the viral banana pudding. I fell in looooove with banana pudding since I first had it from Confused Kitchen. This time, it wasn't bad but it wasn't the same. There weren't enough vaippan pieces and it wasn't as creamy as when it first came out. Again, I think they may have changed chefs because it's very obvious that the quality of food isn't the same as it used to be. I want to be able to give it another chance but I don't see myself coming back anytime soon.
