A1A Fisheries was recommended to us by a resident when we asked about fishmongers. We stopped by and ended up picking up some fresh local pompano, grouper, and flounder for a gathering. There were lots of fish to choose from but the helpful guy behind the counter was happy to answer our questions. Our grillmaster prepared them slightly differently, and I thought they were all excellent and fresh. We'd also grabbed a container of the Dat'l Hook Ya seasoning which paired perfectly with the fish. I have been going to A1A fisheries for years. I heard they had recently sold and I see new people in there. I've had the pleasure of talking with Karen who ordered lobsters from Maine for us. I have tried the smoked salmon that they cooked there, which is delicious. We have purchased the flounder ,grouper and Argentina shrimp frozen 2 pound bag every month which is amazing very easy to clean and shell. I would suggest the seafood market to anybody. After many years of spending time in St Augustine, we decided to try A1A fisheries. We couldn't be more glad we did. Being a lover of fresh fish, this is the place to go. Small shop but real fresh local fish caught that morning!! It doesn't get fresher than that. We bought some smoked salmon, which we ate as an appetizer. Delicious!! For dinner we bought 2 large filets of Florida Grouper!! Baked with a little lemon butter to finish!! Amazing!!! We loved this place so much, we're going back Sunday for dinner!! Been there several times. Sometimes good, sometimes fair. This time bought some snapper that looked great. Once brought home and sauteed as our usual method, this was mushy and, obviously, way past its prime. Stopped here to get fresh catches. Great little place right off the main drag. Got shrimp (excellent), oysters( not tried yet), scallops, cocktail sauce(very good) and a citrus spice (for scallops). Susanne runs the counter and explains what's what in a warm, welcoming way and her son, Bill, is the fisherman who brings in all the fresh seafood. Did I mention they have a precious, well behaved black lab named Abraham who "guards" the shop (a.k.a. will let you let his head if you're waiting on someone)? I'm all for supporting local businesses and while in town found this place to get fresh shrimp (2 1/2 lbs). They even offer to shell and devein within two hours for a couple bucks extra. Sold! Great to buy fresh fish at such good prices right on A1A in the Hammock. That puts seafood right back on the menu for my family. Open til 6pm everyday except Monday makes it easy to plan seafood into our meals. We know can now get the freshest selection from expert local fishermen.
