Service is a joke and I've been to several AAA establishments and this is truly the worst. I waited for two hours to get my registration done on three vehicles and after the two hours, I was informed by the woman doing the registration that it was too close to 4 o'clock, and they couldn't do registrations any further. I about blew a gasket and the woman could see the great dismay in my face and reluctantly processed my three registrations where she improperly registered all three vehicles into the wrong district and so I had to go to DMV and handle it myself. Poor customer service and I'm thinking about canceling my AAA membership since I've never used one tow in the past 15 years and it was the DMV perks that made it worth the membership. This branch NEEDS a number/ticket system. I went here for IDP and there is only 2-3 people ahead of me but it took me more than 35 mins before get assisted. From what the staff were saying, the couple after me said that there is no one in the waiting area so they can be assisted, luckily the staff checked it and I am able to finish what I need to. Giving 3 because of the system and partly the staff there is totally no coordination. I think the only staff moving is Syed which I commend for being all in one while other staff were just sitting not even assisting for other inquiries and photos. read more

I felt that I could use some professional help planning a family trip to China since I couldn't speak or read the language. So, as an AAA roadside member, it kinda made since to try AAA Travel. Bad idea. My agent came off very knowledgeable at our initial meeting and gave good advice, but advising was all he was good at. He spent about 3 wks coming up with international flight and hotel plans as I watched the prices rise over 15%. He booked 5-star hotels which was above my price range, but I accepted since my departure date was now less than a month away and I needed a solid itinerary. He then said that he still needed to add a China domestic flight to the package, but after 2 weeks, he asked me to do it. So I did. It turns out that he was busy working on his own family vacation planning. I thought that the travel agent would help with transfers and tours but AAA has a self-serve portal that uses mostly Viator. Viator is excellent group but I learned that it's much better to book with them directly instead of through an agency, in case you have to make changes (which I did). At the start of my trip, airline software glitches caused cancellations, delays, and some closures. My "agent" sends an updated itinerary which he obviously didn't even proofread because the flight connections and hotels made absolutely no sense. So I did my own rebooking on the fly. After returning home, I pushed for refunds with the airline for prepaid flights that I rebooked. I eventually won that battle, but the airline sent over $10k in refunds to the travel agency because they apparently use an agency credit card for bookings, instead of my card. Worked with my "agent" for over 2 months to get money that they had been holding for over 5 months. To get resolution, I had to lawyer up and go over his head. So my AAA "travel agent" added little value to my trip. Not only did I still have to do some of the work but I ended up paying more due to his turtle pace, and introducing a 3rd party just made getting refunds a nightmare. It's back to self-booking online for me. If you feel like you must use a travel agency, don't use AAA. read more

Avoid at all costs. The receptionist and assistant manager are two of the rudest and least helpful people ever. I've never been treated like this at any other business. I called corporate to report them, but after 30 minutes, they couldn't figure out how to file a complaint. They gave my name to customer care who never called me back. I'm definitely never going back. I'll keep my membership since the folks in the Truck are always very helpful but will never go back to this facility. Ugh. read more

Are you traveling and need to get an INTERNATIONAL DRIVERS LICENSE? I went in this AAA location and was impressed with how easy and fast it was! It took about 15 minutes to walk out with my international drivers license in hand! Just bring your ID and 2 passport pictures, if you don't have pictures they will take it for you! Couldn't have been more helpful! I was transferring a title from another state and also needed to register the vehicle. Didn't know the order of steps since the car was not from VA. He suggested I get an emissions test so he could register the vehicle that day. I did so, and they even gave me new plates that they had there so I was all set. So easy! Especially since they walked me through the numerous forms (title transfer, gift form, registration), which the DMV doesn't like to do. Plus, the DMV didn't have appointments for 2 weeks. My only experience here was really terrible. I needed to have registration stickers reissued. They said that was no issue and they could do that in the office. TWO HOURS AND FORTY MINUTES LATER they still could not help me. At first they said it would be an hour since there were four people in line ahead of me. So I did an errand and when I returned they said there were still two people ahead of me. An hour later I asked again about my status and she said that it looked like I was next. 40 minutes later I asked again and she had no idea how long it would take. I walked out. My advice is to avoid this place. Even though it is an official DMV satellite office, they are able to serve very few people and they are extremely slow and not into customer service. read more

I walked in to get an international driving permit. The process took about 15 minutes from walking in and taking photos for the permit to signing some papers and walking out. Super quick and efficient process. The staff members were nice, helpful, and quick to serve. The atmosphere was clean and casual. There was also some nice travel equipment to buy and pamphlets to learn about different states and countries. read more

I always dread doing chores like going to the post office or getting passports done, but going to the AAA in Alexandria was a breeze! I have no complaints at all. The front door staff was very helpful and welcoming. I needed to get an International Drivers Permit and they immediately helped me with my requests. I They were able to take my photos for passports and the permits very quickly and process my information in a snap. I walked out of there feeling refreshed and relaxed. The parking isn't wonderful, but I was able to find metered parking out front for about $1.50. read more

I worked for this company and was a #1 sales associate until I went to HR about my pay then after that I was retaliated on and harassed daily to the point it ran my blood pressure up and the Manager telling me I just should quit and the job is better off when I'm not there. I was hospitalized for a week. When I got back it was nothing but retaliation so I went to HR and they Informed me they happened the situation next thing I no I get fired for attendants which is crap because it's people in there that called out why more then me and still there. This is a clear sign of discrimination and retaliation. read more

Said I didn't need an appointment and could come in any time. 1/2 hr later drove in to get a photo... the machine was down and they only had the old machine... got my $8 photo that may or may not be usable. LIARS. If I could give my travel experience with AAA zero stars I would. I booked a trip to Morocco for my 40th bday this yr, 2021. There are **ENDLESS** choices for planning a trip but as an inexperienced international traveler, I wanted the security and proper guidance on traveling in the age of Covid and took my mom's advice to booked with AAA. I asked my travel agent every  question to be extremely well prepared, esp vaccination requirements so I wouldn't have any issues leaving or coming back as that is a chief fear of any current traveler. Upon boarding my flite home however, I was turned away for not having gotten a PCR-Covid test, a requirement of re-entering the US that my travel agent did not make me aware of. Also not aware, there was not an option to test at the Casablanca AP so forced to scramble & rebook accommodations, I got  tested the next day and contacted my AAA travel agent requesting  help getting home per AAA travel website *emergency flight and hotel reservations.  My agent promptly provided no support to my getting home, no useful guidance and worse, ZERO acknowledgement of my horrific experience. Upon arriving back to the US at my own expense,  I filed a complaint with the regional manager who presented concerned in the beginning and even asked me what expenses I incurred from this abysmal miscommunication, only to respond 5 wks later with more dismissive accountability-less deflection that, directed me to the minutia of their policy where their PCR test isn't even mentioned. The only thing worse than being stranded in a foreign country, is being treated disposably in the midst of a crisis, by the very travel company I trusted to be my trusted guides & with whom I've been a loyal member for 3 generations.  My gpa used AAA "trip-tix" in the 60s & my mom co-piloted our family road trips with a AAA maps  in the 80s. My customer service experience with AAA travel has been a deceptive disgrace. Never again read more

Update 6/22/2019: today I had a triple diamond experience at the Eisenhower AAA office. Karen was so sweet and helpful. She will be helping me plan a river cruise in the near future. She also took my passport photo. She even showed me the 50% off luggage sale. Saed at the cashier/front desk was as nice as can be. Everyone was very helpful and I really appreciated it. Thanks Debra for making things right again. Deborah, the AAA Alexandria office manager, called to ameliorate my dissatisfaction regarding my recent experience. She was very kind, understanding and apologetic. She also offered me her very own personal service the next time I need travel planning assistance. And I plan to take her up on her offer. I'm writing this for my father who has an upper level membership to AAA . At 12:27pm he placed a call to AAA because his car overheat and he didnt want to take the chance of trying to drive it home . It is now 4:35pm and he is still waiting for the tow truck. The tow truck driver just called starting he didnt get the ticket until 15 minutes ago . This is some BS , it's hot as hell outside and something that should have been a simple process is now working it's way up to the fifth hour . There has always been talk of how slow AAA is and for that reason alone people don't use them , what if this had been at night in unfamiliar surrounding ? The new AAA location on Eisenhower Ave. is a huge improvement from the old location in Old Town. Most of the maps and guide books are located on self-service racks. It's nice to be able to browse and flip through the books before taking them home. Once you've made your selections, take your maps to the counter so the friendly staff can scan the items and send you on your way. There's also a nice selection of travel accessories. read more

I confess I geek out over maps. And not the little electronic ones embedded in your dashboard, but good old fashioned MAPS. Paper maps. In books. With distance scales and street name indexes. With keys! I like being the navigator on road trips just so I can pore over maps of whichever state we're in, estimating how far we have to our destination or picking out the funniest town names (I think the best ones are in Florida: Okahumpka, Dorcas, Yeehaw Junction, just to name a couple). My odd attraction to maps is what makes a brick-and-mortar AAA so appealing to me. They still give away (for free!) paper road maps. Just pick out whichever road map or TourBooks you'd like, then have the lovely employees manning the desk scan them and your AAA card. You can also buy big, beautifully colored road atlases. This AAA, in particular, is probably the nicest one I've been in. It's relatively new and everything still looks it. It's clean and well-organized, the travel merchandise section is large and diverse, and there are lots of nice folks to help you. Also, parking is a breeze -- they have their own free parking garage, just turn off Eisenhower onto Mill and follow the red signs. Bonus: this location is a currency exchange (for purchase, they don't buy back currency). They'll sell you foreign currency for the exchange rate plus a reasonable service fee. It's always nice to land in another country with a little cash ready to go! I've been a happy AAA member for many years, and being able to use this Eisenhower location makes me all the happier. read more

I realized I had a flat tire the next morning when I tried to drive the car. (**Light Bulb** Was that why the car was driving funny and there was funny noise last night!?! Oops!!!) I was *bright* enough not to drive my car, and left it in my parking lot. I called my dad and consulted what I should do. He said I should call AAA before I leave work, so by the time I get home, AAA should be there at my apartment parking lot. YES DAD!!! You were right. You are always right! So I called at 5:35pm to report the flat tire with AAA, 800# lady was very nice, took down all my information. She quoted the truck should arrive between 6 to 6:20pm. Perfect. I have enough time to get home to catch the AAA guy. AAA guy called me at 5:45 (when I was at metro) that he is 5 mins away. I told him I was 10-15 mins away. He said he would wait. 6pm - I rushed home and found the AAA truck waiting for me. Wayne (AAA guy) was super friendly and helpful. Replaced my flat with my spare in 15-20 minutes. He then filled my flat tire with air and tried to look for the leak and marked it with chalk. Outstanding service!!! I guess it's worth paying the annual fee for the comfort that they will come save this idiot car girl! Or I can learn how to change a flat.....hmmm....maybe not.... I've been with AAA with my family in So Cal for many years (my parents grandfathered me into a 48 year+ membership). Having moved, however, they canceled my membership without my knowledge since I wasn't part of the So Cal club anymore. I wasn't thrilled with that, but the staff at this office was IMMENSELY helpful. They knew how frustrated I was dealing with So Cal, so they gave me a discount for a new membership and even researched places where I could get an emissions check on my car since I just moved here. Staff competence and friendliness definitely gets a 5 - my only issue was that I had to wait quite a while to speak with someone and then they had some severe technology issues when I needed to move on to other errands. I assume that doesn't happen too often, so I definitely recommend this location. Oh, and great map set-up, too! read more

Thanks for the sensitivity. As a family member of/ multi decade member who has perhaps used AAA services twice in 30 years - I am disappointed in the lack of service I encountered today. A simple notary stamp to verify my identity was all I needed. The FedEx store around the corner sent me your way. You see, I am also a notary, and understand what is involved in providing such a service. I would gladly pay a fee. You see, my father was a huge advocate of AAA, and as soon as I went off to college in 1991 he gifted me a membership. At the end of his life it was the one remaining gift he could give from his nursing home bed. He is no longer living. And perhaps my membership lapsed, I'm not too sure. But your agent who greeted me today? Was insensitive - and after telling me that when a member dies the family ALWAYS calls to cancel a membership (funny, I didn't do that so clearly this is erroneous), she demanded to see my drivers license in order to check the spelling of my name. At this point I'd been interacting with your desk for over seven minutes. And she was asking for the form of ID that a notary would need to notarize my identity document. But was of course refusing to allow me to receive this service. Sometimes you make a call and do a nice thing. Sometimes you thank someone for the membership their family has maintained for decades. Sometimes you say that you're sorry for someone's loss. Losing a parent in your forties is not pleasant. Being dismissed after an inquisition at the AAA Eisenhower location is also not pleasant. I'll be recommending that my family and friends take a look at what benefits they actually are able to use and have used with AAA, and I'll ask them to consider sending their coins to a more humane and kind business. read more

Passport photos for $2.99 for members (or free for higher grades)! They sell discounted movie tickets, too. I'm so glad I rediscovered this place before spending $15 on a passport photo. Lots of nice travel accessories for sale, too. I'll have to return before my next trip. read more

So happy they're open on Saturdays. I came in around 9:30a to get an international driving permit and was quickly greeted at the front desk. After a couple of mins of waiting the associate from the back office approached me for my form and passport pictures. It took her literally 5 min to process everything and get my permit ready. She explained everything to me and took me to the front for me to pay. The most painless thing ever I had to do that involved traveling in general. The person there also told me they take passport pictures too so you can start and finish the whole process at the office. The major downside about this office is the location - there is no parking lot. You would have to pay for street parking or garage but if you get there early, you only need about 10-15 min total so no big deal. read more

The location and free parking are very nice and the modern decor and self-serve racks are great. But, while the staff is friendly, the inefficiency of the place kind of drove me crazy. The situation:I wanted to get 2 international drivers permits. I had all of the paperwork and 1 set of passport photos ready and organized; so I needed to: a) get 1 set of passport photos and b) both IDP's. The front desk had to log me in, hand me my paperwork, then I was told to wait for an agent, who took my picture, hand-wrote my information on the IDP folder (which looks REAL official), then told me to go back front to pay. The front desk person didn't think he had all the information he needed, so he called the agent back on the phone (who was 20' away and I could watch answer her phone when he called) to find out he DID have the right information so he could charge me $42.50. He then sent me *back* to the agent to present my proof of payment so I could collect my IDP's. But the agent wanted to cross-sell me on an AAA Visa credit card. After she got done telling me about the advantages, I said no. She then "discovered" there was something wrong with one of the 6 lines of print on one of the IDP's and took it in a back room to fix (?), leaving me to sit for 5 minutes with the Visa pamphlet spread in front of me...I had the distinct feeling that the problem was fabricated so I could reconsider and sign up for a credit card I didn't need. I've had worse experiences and longer waits, but my time is valuable and my patience limited. This AAA experience could be streamlined and improved considerably. read more

I have had AAA coverage since 1998. The two times I've needed roadside assistance they have failed me. The first time, I was in a friend's car, and they claimed they could only help me with my car. Today, my husband was locked out of our car, and they said the service only follows the driver. I have USAA insurance, and they include roadside coverage that is even better than AAA! I don't need triptiks because I have google and other map programs. I am canceling my AAA today. read more

The fiance suggested that we go to AAA for help planning our multi-leg honeymoon. I was thinking it was unneeded - that's what online booking sites are for, right? We got paired with this woman (Nancy S.) who seriously changed my view. She was so knowledgeable, so helpful and so nice. She got our cruise booked with direct flights, hotel for the night before, transportation to and from the boat, and insurance, all for a super reasonable price. I couldn't believe it. She was super responsive and would email us back overnight from her personal account. She made sure that we were set prior to the trip - I really can't say enough about her! read more

Absolutely horrible customer service from Syed. We asked to make a return he said hold on and took a personal call for 5 minutes in his language. Then he came out, asked his manager about the return and rejected it. We asked to speak to the manager, he was very unknowledgeable about the company's policies.They cannot return items because they cannot scan them? Quite a horrible company, needs to get with technology. read more

He was very friendly, professional and extremely efficient. He checked my car and installed a new battery on the spot. I called AAA Alexandria to see if they had a currency exchange. They young man told me yes, and told me that I could get £65 for $107. I drove over to Carlyle and gave the woman my $107 and she gave me the packet in a plastic bag. When I got home, I looked at the packet and discovered that I only received £53. The exchange rate is .59 so I should have received £63. That makes the fee almost 20%. I checked with my bank (BOA) to find out what they charge and it is only $7.50 for up to $2000 exchanged. I thought that AAA was suppose to help us save some money. Guess I'll have to get a tow to make up for the amount I was screwed out of!?! read more

The convenience of being near a Metro stop within easy walking distance is helpful. The staff are friendly but not necessarily the fastest people or processes I have ever come across. I requested several maps for my trip. We had to check out the maps like a library and we had to wait for other maps to be found. Some USA cities were missing. I recommend setting aside a lot of time and not waiting to visit immediately before a major trip. Maps of states and major metro areas were around but lesser cities or less populous regions were not available. Also less popular travel destinations like Edmonton Canada, Costa Rica, Turkey, smaller cities in Texas (eg Austin), Wyoming (Cheyenne), Oregon (Medford) were not immediately retrievable either. This may be coincident with the decline of paper maps or its unclear. I think the staff try but situation is not as ideal as it could be. read more

Please note that I am not targeting this store. I am targeting AAA Roadside Assistance or their lack of it, as a whole. We loaned a car to our daughter & son-in-law for a trip to Southern VA, We gave them one of our AAA cards just in case they had any problems. While on I-81 the experienced a double blow-out on the left side of the car. They called AAA they were told that because they were not the card holder, they would not receive any help. I called AAA and was very bluntly told the AAA "tracks the person not the car". As I voiced my opinion on the situation, I was told again that they track the person not the car and was then asked if I'd like to upgrade my services or would I like any maps for travel. Needless to say, this is a useless waste of money if they won't help the person driving the car that is supposed to be covered. Next letter going to AAA to cancel our service. read more
