I would like to thank AAA Hayward Auto Repair for a wonderful experience. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I made an appointment for an oil change, and even though there were many cars outside when I arrived, I was assisted immediately upon walking in and my appointment time was honored.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]I believe the service advisor who helped me was Thomas. He was friendly, informative, professional, and made me feel like a valued customer.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Thomas let me know that the service would take about an hour and a half, so I walked a couple of doors down to enjoy lunch at Emil Villa's Hickory Pit. To my surprise, when I returned from lunch, my car was already finished and ready to go. Another pleasant surprise was the price. As a AAA member, the cost of the oil change was significantly lower than the quotes I received from three other oil change businesses I had contacted. They sold me a high-mileage (150,000 miles) differential for $1,200 with absolutely no warranty, then added labor and fluid charges that brought the total to an astonishing $2,800. This is far beyond what even dealership service departments typically charge for similar work. It feels blatantly predatory. They had my vehicle towed directly to their shop, fully aware that I had limited options to move it elsewhere, and appear to have taken advantage of that situation to inflate costs. Charging premium prices for a used part with no guarantee is unacceptable and raises serious questions about their business practices and ethics. read more

During a prior visit in May. They were able to determine some issues, and that was a great experience aside from the cost to repair being far outside of my budget. Which was basically some sensors and a system reset , and some other minor but expensive issues Compared to this visit, early in June. Which could be a combination of mechanical issues and indirectly related to the prior issues. The mechanical could be covered by a warranty that I have for the vehicle engine, transmission,and drivetrain. It was understood by myself and Thomas. The warranty company is highly selective on coverage of repairs. I have no disappointment in customer service. However, I am confused about how the repair facility couldn't find anything mechanically wrong on a 2014 Dodge Challenger SRT 392 with 91,000 miles, which the warranty company would cover. On any slightly different circumstance, most repair shops would find at least a full page or maybe even 2 pages of mechanical problems that would be covered by a 3rd party warranty company, given its a customer and vehicle without such a warranty. Paying out of pocket, which equals no hassle with a 3rd party warranty company and 100% profits. I'm not knocking that. It's a business and they need to make money. However, it leaves me to question motives about the findings or rather lack of findings. However, they did not provide poor service. However, maybe a very professional way to say we don't want to be bothered with this, delivered in a very strategic, professionally courteous manner. Had I been a customer with wealthy pockets and the ability to pay for any problem found. While also paying out of my own pocket. With no 3rd party warranty. I had a flat tire from a key no clue how that happened but it was a monday night and I was scrambling to find a place that could fix it quick. Mind you I did call AAA and they changed to my spare. I was going to go to west coast tires because they were open 24 hours but they were sort of rude on the phone and said i couldn't go because i didn't have an appointment. I set up an appointment with AAA on their website for Wednesday 8am. They later emailed me back Tuesday morning at 7am and said they could take me today (tuesday). I went over and they said they couldn't fix the fire because it was too close to the edge. They ordered me a new tire which came a few hours laters, I went over again and i kid you not I was in and out in 30 minutes. The downside was i paid $273 for a new tire and labor. The tire itself was $200 so i did not really have a chance to pick what tire i wanted. That could be on me though, i did not ask if they had any others. I was directed to this AAA shop as I live less then 1 mile away. Once I got here to my surprise the diagnostic charge of over $200 will not be credited to the service provided. I want to start by saying there are two elements to my review: the service advisor and the company. [[HIGHLIGHT]]First, my service advisor was outstanding--extremely friendly, knowledgeable, and professional.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] If AAA asked for feedback on him, I would give him a 5-star review without hesitation. The customer lobby is also clean and comfortable. The issue, however, lies with the shop's pricing structure, which I found to be absurdly expensive. A brake inspection and a fluid leak inspection cost me $269 even with the AAA member discount. The repair quotes were also higher than average: $1,600 for three leaks (involving gaskets and hoses), plus other repair and maintenance recommendations that totaled $7,500 for a 17-year-old domestic car. I took the report to another mechanic, who could do the same work for 35% less and would have charged $100 less for the inspection. While I love AAA for roadside assistance and have had positive experiences with their battery replacement service, I cannot recommend them for mechanical work due to their higher than average rates. read more

The work was completed, I paid for the oil change, a brake check and left. When I arrived home in my mail there was a coupon from AAA service for a free brake check. I returned to AAA Hayward Auto Repair on Monday to see if they would honor the coupon and credit my account. The manager reviewed my receipt and coupon. He subsequently credited my account. 1. Wrong problem evaluation. They didn't know what they were doing. We brought our Fiat that was out of gas, and they said our gas tank had a leak, which was completely wrong. When we towed our car to my mechanic, it turned out that the Fiat had a special gas tank protector. 2. They have 8x markups! Don't be fooled. They quoted $900 for a gas tank neck, which costs $100. Both my son and I had brake service done at this shop and in both cases we had to have follow up service and repairs at another shop. I also was told I needed new struts, but decided to wait. I have since been to two other shops and was told that I did not need new struts. I will not be back and I would not recommend this center for service. I cannot rave about Kevin Smith enough. If I could give him ten stars, I would. My car was stolen in Oakland on January 22 and found in Piedmont on January 25. Unfortunately, my adjuster out of Oklahoma never laid eyes on the car and sent my car to a body shop facility in SR and there was no body damage to the car. From the very beginning, they had no intention of repairing my car. They lied to me, sat on the repairs and gave AAA an estimate without bothering to start my car. AAA had approved the repairs on my car and after being under the impression my car was going to be repaired, I found out weeks later my engine was seized and it was going to be totaled. What an emotional roller coaster. After a few initial contacts, I heard nothing from the adjuster. I lost all faith in my adjuster and the body shop he sent my car to. Someone had suggested this AAA owned and operated facility and I had the car towed in. I walked into your facility totally frustrated. Kevin asked me how he could help and boy did I unload on him . From the very beginning, he listened, asked important questions, took notes and he listened. He understood my frustration. I am 69 and could not afford a new car. I loved my car and wanted it back. My car was a 2011 Hyundai and had gone through the Hyundai Tik Tok theft escapade. I left feeling better that my car was in good hands. He was honest about the repairs, lack of parts etc. The next morning, less than 24 hours later, he called to tell me the engine had seized up. Of course I was devastated knowing my car was going to be totaled. Then the "Kevin treatment"kicked in. He took the time to check with your mechanics, asked me about whether I had had engine work on my car, my warranty, suggested I reach out to Hyundai for a possible recall, he reached out to some other folks and called my adjuster numerous times until he got an answer. To be honest, he was the ONLY AAA employee to this day who had really given a damn since this nightmare began. If I emailed him, he answered. If I called him, he answered. My car was totaled and Kevin is the only AAA employee I would RAVE about. He is business like, professional, kind, compassionate and HONEST. He listens. He is an absolute treasure and I would recommend this facility a million times over because of him!! read more
