As I am new to the area, I was referred to Empire Automotive Services from Carmax's MaxCare dept. My car, a fairly new Hyundai Kona's, engine light came on and it started running sluggishly with an engine "knocking" sound. I called at first to schedule my appointment and spoke to Kunal, the Manager. RIGHT FROM THE START, he was very courteous and instinctive and addressed all of my concerns before I came in. I let Kunal know that I am a full-time caregiver to my Mom who is bedridden and that we have limited funds to cover additional expenses. And as we are in need of a car due to any emergencies, time is of the essence. I drove down the following morning and Kunal arranged for one of his mechanics to give me a lift back home and even offered to pick me as I cannot leave my Mom home alone for an extended period of time. Over the next few days, Kunal communicated with me with a series of calls explaining the diagnosis of my car. He informed me that the overall repairs would cost approx $5K. But he would continue to push the estimate to go through with MaxCare, and my co-payment would only cost $250 (which is my out-of-pocket expense) with my contract. The car was in the shop for about two weeks and, as honored by Kunal, the car repairs were covered. During this stressful time, Kunal and his staff were very friendly and understanding of my situation. He could tell by my tone of voice that I could not handle any more additional stress as the care and well-being of my Mom was bad enough. HIGHLY RECOMMEND Called needing an oil change and to replace my driver side fender liner to my car. Kunal and his team did an excellent job fixing alternator and o2 sensor in odyssey. Kunal advised that I should go for diagnostic service for O2 sensor issue since sometimes there could be other related issues that might need to be fixed. If they didn't find any issue, they would just replace O2 sensor and wouldn't charge diagnostic fee. I have a 2018 Dodge Ram that just stopped running while I was on the freeway during rush hour on March 14, 2022. I was able to get it to start again, but the engine just flat out died EIGHT MORE times before I finally limped into my own driveway. I REALLY need my truck every day. I called several auto repair shops, as well as two Dodge dealerships, and nobody could even look at the truck for several days. Too busy. A friend recommended that I call Empire Automotive Services. I called and left a message, and I was shocked when they returned my call in literally 5 minutes. FYI, I'd left messages on the answering services of 2 other shops that still haven't returned my call. What was also frustrating was that for those who answered, I was on hold forever. Even with the dealerships. The gentleman from Empire who returned my call gave me his full attention, and he REALLY listened to me and understood how badly I needed my truck. He said if I could get it in immediately, he would look at it that day and at least try and determine what might be going on. I arranged to have AAA tow my truck to Empire. I couldn't believe it when "Riz" called me that same day and said they had already diagnosed the problem and could have it back to me in 2 days or less. He called me back the very next morning and said it was ready for me to pick up. It's run perfectly since then and I'm still in shock at how fair their price was. I'm not sure if these 5 star reviews are paid or not, but this place tried to scam me for 4x the price that I needed to pay. Took my car here one afternoon when I noticed something was wrong as I was driving to work. Since I had to work, I decided to drop it off near work while they looked into the problem. The shop told me I would need to pay over 1k to repair which included the preliminary diagnoses. When the mechanic explained the problem to me, the report did not match what I was being charged. They quoted me for additional parts OVER market value and included about $300 for 2hrs of labor. I then did a quick Google search to see the average cost of fixing the problem and realized I was being overcharged. Good thing I contacted my usual mechanic and he quoted me 1/4 the price Empire Automotive quoted me. I sent the diagnosis report to my usual mechanic and he told me they never touched the car and wanted to charge me to replace something that didn't need to be replaced. TLDR: Empire automotive tried to take advantage of my already stressful situation and tried to overcharge me by adding additional parts that didn't need to be fixed. NEVER COME HERE. read more
