Our 2025 Subaru had a reminder to get the oil and filter changed even though we were 3,000 miles short of meeting the milage requirement. Subaru recommends getting the service done every 6 months or 6,000 miles which ever comes first. After dropping our car off at Larry's, he called and said the car did not need service. Five stars for Larry and his excellent shop! They have fixed both easy and complex issues with our vehicles and always with great results. Even when we are ready to give up Larry, never does. He has fixed AC issues and recently fixed a complicated brake issue on our older Prius. It should not matter but sometimes as a female it can be intimidating to go to a mechanic. I never feel that way here and I always feel comfortable and have everything explained to me in a way where I understand the scope of work, timing expectations and cost. Got the 100K maintenance on my 2013 Acura MDX here a couple weeks ago. Spark plugs, water pump, timing belt, oil change, and I think the serpentine belt too and probably one or two other things. I waited a couple weeks for this review to make sure the check engine light didn't come on or anything else I've never been here before. But I was very pleased with their responsiveness, their obvious knowledgeability, the way they don't feel like they're trying to upsell you, and excellent pricing vs the Acura dealer. I came in for rear brake service for my 2014 Sienna. Larry and his techs did a quick examination and told me my brake pads and rotors are still good for at least another year! Other mechanics would have just done the job without letting the owner know just to make money. I ended up just having an oil change which was due anyway, and Larry said he will examine my brakes at my next oil change. Honest! Was referred here by friends and Larry did not disappoint. I brought our new to us 2017 Honda CRV to change the brakes. I heard them squeak and the seller said they were low. Larry and team did test drive and checked the brakes but told me it wasn't necessary yet. Charge for the check was only $40. He recommended I come back for oil changes and they'll continue to check and let me know when it needs to be done. This review is overdue. I had an oil changed here a few months back, I courteously asked them if they have the 5w-20 since the last time I was here they informed me that they used 5w-30 oil even after inquiring over the phone if they use the recommended oil based on the owner's manual and getting the confirmation that they do. I know there really is not much of a big significance for the consistency of the oil, if they do not follow the recommended oil to be used to your car, but I'm just like that. And so I went ahead for an oil changed. And this what turned out to my car. Vandalized! Asked the reason for the vandalism and Larry just nodded like "yeah, I have no control of these technicians." My engine light turned on. I didn't know how to check it or what to do. As a young-looking woman, I'm pretty anxious and skeptical about being taken advantage of in a car situation. But there were a ton of positive reviews for this place, my boyfriend had gone once before, and it's near Cafe 4, so I decided to stop by. I called at 8:15am, told them my light went on, and they told me to come in at opening at 8:30am. When I drove into the lot, a mechanic came to check on my car and immediately identified that I needed to replace my gas cover. He was fine with sending me off just like that. I figured I could at least pay for the part and have them install it, rather than leaving with some free advice. They didn't have the part on hand, and asked me to come back tomorrow. The next day, I dropped by and they replaced it in 5 minutes. They said they didn't want to charge me for the full hour, and just had me cove the part. I really value that they were willing to simply send me off to do a DIY fix myself. Both days I visited, they were servicing tons of customers with quick speed. Go here if you want a no frills experience, with people who don't want to rip you off or upsell you. Don't be afraid to be clear and ask for what you need. Most of the mechanics are multi-lingual, and were very comfortable with English and Vietnamese. I believe they also have employees who speak Chinese. I started hearing some unfamiliar noises coming from my car. My regular mechanic couldn't schedule me for a couple of weeks. Concerned whether it was a safety issue, I looked online hoping to find a mechanic who could see me sooner, I came across Larry's and I am sure glad I did. Larry said I could bring the car right over. After a short inspection, he isolated the exact problem, explained what the issue was, and laid out my options in detail. Since the faulty part was still under warranty, he suggested I take it back to my regular mechanic to fix. He even educated me what was overlooked by my regular mechanic during that last repair. I've had several incidents in the past where the mechanic didn't want me taking my business to someone else, so they painted a much more dire picture of the issue than what it actually was so I wouldn't leave. We just had a minor emergency driving back from LA to SF. My battery light came on and my power steering went out on the highway, so we pulled off at the next exit. We are so so thankful that exit happened to be right at Larry's. They took us right away, instantly diagnosed the issue (broken alternator pulley), ordered the part, and had us fixed and out of there in an hour for a very reasonable price. I found Larry condescending and questioned his insulting remarks and where he was going with it. He asked why I'm using his shop and where I live instead of providing my estimate. I even entertained his story of how he was ripped off before by a customer who said he didn't fix their car right. 24hrs later still no estimate or call from Larry's. I ended up taking the day off from my Bay Area job to take my car to Honda in "My" City and they ordered the parts and will repair Saturday. Larry don't give me stories about how you've been ripped off. I left your shop wondering if race was the reason behind your irrelevant story. Man was I wrong...I brought my truck into Larry's because it had stalled when starting and also stalled a few times at a couple of red lights. Upon arrival, I was immediately questioned as if I had to personally diagnose the issue. Of course, I don't know what the problem is...that is why I brought my vehicle to a repair shop... for THEM to diagnose it. So, I leave my truck and call two days later to ask how things are going. I was told they hadn't looked at it yet. The next day I get a call from Larry's that my truck was ready to be picked up. I asked what the issue was, and the answer was simply that my truck didn't have a problem. Well, it actually does... it stalls. So, with great frustration, and no solution, I went to pick up my truck. Once there, I was given a diagnostic test result on paper, which had no decipherable explanation as to what it was. And after all of this, I was told not to bring my truck back because it is "too big" and that his employees "hated working on it." It is a Chevy Silverado with a lift, but it isn't some monster truck. The good news is I wasn't charged anything for the three-day ordeal but being refused service is off-putting in so many ways. So, this review is mostly a warning to anyone who doesn't have a small or mid-sized sedan: GO ELSEWHERE. Or the same vehicle size discrimination will befall you too. read more
