The visitor center is full of wonderful information about geological, ecology and cultural history of Mono Lake and its surroundings. The Rangers working in the visitor center are extremely friendly and helpful. You can easily spend a couple of hours in there and not even feel the passing of time! The view from the back yard of the visitor center is great. If you step outside with a camera I am sure it will be clicking fast! If you are into hiking or photography, ask the rangers for a map of the area and their recommendations for best photo opportunity spots.

I was on an epic trip through the area (stop over at the county park to the north of here for a secluded boardwalk into the lake) in the late summer and made this a destination. The views of the lake from here are outstanding, on a clear day you can see across the entire lake. I love the extensive displays available to learn about the geology, hydrology, geography and life of the lake. Watch out for the giant brine shrimp display, that isn freaked me out. The location is easy to find and the turnoff from the highway is easy to use (can get hairy in this part of the state crossing highways). I loved all the great native plant and stone displays around the center. This allows you to learn about the area even when it is closed. I liked the extensive info on the plantings and the different strategies they have adapted to live here. There are also a few info boards near the parking lot that go over the same stuff as inside. I did not take any hikes form here due to the hill it is on (who want's to walk back up?). Try other trails in the area, such as that near the south shore tufa. The staff are very helpful, answering any esoteric questions you may have to the best of their ability. Very nice gift shop as well, got my Mono Lake postcards here. Minus one star for an off-topic ranger talk, which instead of being about the hydrology of the area was all about climate change and guilt-tripping everyone. I don't need your proselytizing about my behavior if you don't see anything wrong with what I'm doing here at the center, what I need is natural history information to better understand this area. I left 20 mins into the talk after waiting around for an hour for it to start. Boo that! Anytime you would like to know more about Mono Lake, head over to the Basin Visitor Center for an extensive education and mostly friendly staff.

I just returned from a weekend of fly-fishing lessons with David and I cannot say enough good…read morethings about him and the overall experience that we had. Fly-fishing was something I'd been wanting to do for decades and our weekend of lessons/guiding by David resulted in an amazing positive experience for us. David's passion for fly fishing and for the elements that compose the environment where we fished were greatly appreciated. David is not only extremely knowledgeable on all aspects of fly-fishing, but when he learned we have an appreciation of the local environment there too, he gladly shared lots of his knowledge with us. This included the environment and life cycle of the various species of trout where we fished and their food source, trout fishing up in the high country, the many various types of birds and other wildlife in the environment, some ranching history, etc. His local knowledge of where to fish in the Bishop area was on point. Both days we were at nearby locations that were easy to get to and extremely scenic, but with virtually no other fishermen or other people around. David's enthusiasm for fly-fishing was evident from the beginning. We got us geared up and on the water quickly, and his teaching was mostly hands-on with just a few minutes of coaching before we got our lines in the water, then further coaching from there as we progressed. Before long we were catching beautiful and healthy trout. When we'd hook up David was right there to guide us on how to keep the fish on and safely land and release it. As our skills and comfort on the water increased David would introduce new techniques to us and guide us to other close-by spots to wade into and fish. We caught numerous trout of various species both days. He provided all the fishing-related gear to us and everything worked flawlessly. We had minimal snags and lost flies, and when we did he was on it quickly to get us back fishing. His stoke for fly-fishing and the Sierra is contagious and I plan on getting out there again with him. I highly recommend Sierra Trout Magnet!

Wayfinder was an oasis for us after hot weather and our dog's paw injury made us abandon our…read morecamping site a day early. We arrived in town at 7 PM on a Friday looking for last-minute, pet friendly lodging. After seeing a few dire motels, we debated driving through the night home, but thankfully we stumbled upon Wayfinder. The walk in rates are reasonable given what you get. A great bar and dinner area with a super comfy and cozy lobby, delicious free buffet breakfast, super cozy beds, a beautiful creek with chairs and outdoor seating, gardens with secluded benches, a pool, a hot tub, and free chocolate chip cookies. It was super easy to eat outside with our dog and still enjoy the amenities. They also gave us a treat bag upon checkin which was very sweet. I'm not sure what else you could hope for in a small mountain town, but I'd definitely return!

One star. I had a reservation, but I never even set foot on the property…read more Our upcoming trip to the area was disrupted by the Rock Fire in Inyo County, forcing us to change our travel plans. Before booking, travelers should understand that Wayfinder appears to enforce its cancellation policy even when a major wildfire prevents the original trip from taking place. The hotel offered to convert my one night reservation into a credit, but only if I selected and confirmed new travel dates within 48 hours. In my view, that is not a reasonable accommodation. When travel is unexpectedly disrupted by a natural disaster, it can take weeks or months to determine when a replacement trip will be possible. A more customer-friendly approach would be to issue a credit valid for 6-12 months and allow guests to book new dates when their plans are finalized. We also discussed moving the reservation forward by one night to accommodate our revised itinerary. While I understand that weekend rates are higher, the additional cost would have been several hundred dollars, making that option impractical. As a result, I lost the cost of one night's stay and will not be booking with Wayfinder in the future. This was my first experience with the company, and unfortunately it left me with the impression that there is little flexibility for guests facing extraordinary circumstances beyond their control. Management already has my contact information. I hope you'll reconsider and issue a credit that can be used within the next year, rather than requiring a new reservation to be booked within 48 hours.

But if you're flying out that day and have your boarding pass they give you 10% off. TSA was quick even though they don't have a designated TSA precheck. Keeping that in mind you have to take out your iPads and kindles. It was really neat being about to see the plane land and pull in to the gate.

Shuttles available to take you to Mammoth Lakes (reservations are necessary). There's also a Thai restaurant that's probably as big as the airport itself with good food. The restaurant is very strict with where you but your bags. The airport doesn't service a lot of people so you can leave your bags at the check in counter. Overall, a hassle-less airport.

If your flight is delayed or arrives late you will be left without a pick-up as I was . There was no communication after that to resolve the issue . On my return to Los Angeles my flight was delayed, and the dispatch was unable to handle a change of pick up time. It's really only a 4 mile drive to the airport. Don't need to be there two hours early. I'm very disappointed in their service.

We were able to fit a 40 foot 5th wheel but dont have room when you get out of your rig. NARROW spaces. Manager of the park told us since we are staying for extended days she would get us a almost corner space and not park someone next to us to give us room to open our awning. First day was ok. But 3pm today manager tells us we need to put up our awning, move all of our chairs, and tables, etc. She was parking another motorhome next to us. Would not be an issue if the park was packed but this place is empty. There is empty spaces everywhere. When we asked the manager why they couldn't be put somewhere else she ignored us. Go to another campground.

I like how spacious the parking lot is. The location is ideal, right in the center of everything. Walking distance from Schat's Bakery & other restaurants, & right next to the park, so it's great for people who have dogs staying with them. I did notice there are a good amount of guests that have pets with them here - so this business is pet friendly! Our room was ready by the time we checked in & was clean. Walls can be a little thin, but we still had a good night's sleep. My favorite part of the stay was the continental breakfast included with our room - sausages, eggs, gravy & biscuits & all the usual options like cereal & fruit & pancakes. The staff were always on site, cleaning tables & refilling food. Such a filling meal, especially for a day of snowboarding ahead. We didn't use the extra amenities but they were nice to have - indoor pool, sauna, exercise room. Overall we would be delighted to come back!
